There's a petition to stop Trump from making a State Visit to the UK.

Over 1/4 million signatures already!

Signed. He's the last person we want here.

I think it's an excellent idea, and it's all over my FB newsfeed and gaining 60k signatures an hour, so I don't think I'm the only one.

The wording is a bit iffy - 'he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty'? One would not wish any embarrassment on one's dear Queen, but I'm sure she could weather it; he shouldn't be invited because he's a racist sexist goady hateful scumbag who shows every enthusiasm for trampling human rights. Either way, he can bugger off.

And didn't he tweet about Kate Middleton's topless photos? Part of me hopes he does come, just so she can chuck a drink on him, and then lock him in a room with Charles all night to be re-educated about climate change.

Yeah, I signed that earlier.

He needs his freedom of movement curtailing.

Signed it this morning - it was at 30,000 then. Bloody brilliant response in the U.K. to this utter outrage... all except from our dearly beloved PM. Can not believe how slow and Weasley she has been over this.

You can't wait to see what others think to judge how you respond to something like this. You have to have clear, moral instinct, and hers was way off.

Trump is a grade a cunt

However does nobody think it would be disturbing if we had any influence over the elected leader of another country?

“Kate Middleton is great — but she shouldn’t be sunbathing in the nude — only herself to blame,” "Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!”

September 17, 2012.

Again, he's said and done much much much much much worse, but what a fuckwit. Women: take your top off (on private property) and you're asking for a bunch of guys to take, distribute and profit from photographs.

livia the petition would just trigger a parliamentary debate. Which, I'm sure, would conclude it illegal to randomly ban people from entering the country for no good reason.

Which is, of course, exactly what Trump is doing.

I think it makes the point rather well.

And the SupremeCourt (as in the body who can actually do something) is working on that now. M
We don't actually have the power to influence a foreign government. Our government does have to an extent b

So banning a person from entering the UK due to their opinions and beliefs is being backed by people in a stance to oppose someone banning people entering the USA based on their country of birth? Okay then... pot, kettle!

Like it or not, some of the US citizens voted this psychopathic piece of shit in. We have to have diplomatic relations with the US.

The petition says to let him come as a head of state but do not give him the full pomp of a state visit. That's the difference. It would be incredibly embarrassing for us as a nation & why on earth would we want that slime bucket anywhere near our Royal Family. So yes I have signed.

We do livia

But it's also important that people publically shout as many ways as possible about how wrong he is.

Peppatax - People have a choice on an opinion. They don't have a choice on where they are born.

You really think it is the same thing peppa?
I would call it hate speech.... we have laws about that here don't we???

peppatax

We have a law that enabled our country to stop people visiting if they are here to promote or incite intolerance or hatred.

I think it could be put to apt use in the circumstances...

Apparently DT is a bit worried that Charles will take him to task over climate change. Maybe he will be secretly relieved not to have to do a state visit, contenting himself with visiting Theresa at Chequers instead.

I have signed it. It does no harm to have this debated and to allow the ordinary person to make a show of solidarity with those denied access to the US.

I don't think signing a petition, cancelling a holiday to the USA or going on a protest march will make one iota of difference. As far as things stand, he was voted in legally by a nation of 300 million people - I'm not saying I agree with any of his policies whatsoever but the horse has somewhat bolted for even Americans to backtrack here so why people in the U.K. are getting so wound up I don't know...

We have a law that enabled our country to stop people visiting if they are here to promote or incite intolerance or hatred.

And I'm sure that DT will have used that same logic to do what he is doing.

Peppa "o why people in the U.K. are getting so wound up I don't know..."

  1. we are human and some of us actually, y'know, care about people
  2. we have friends and family to worry about

People might have work over there to worry about. Any number of things.

Peppa on those grounds we shouldn't have boycotted South Africa during the apartheid years! So my little bit yes I will be boycotting American Wine, fruit, coke, McDonald's etc for the foreseeable future. The wine is going to be the hardest, it's not against Americans, it's against their president. We should not be afraid to say no it's not alright & we won't be supportive. The more pressure that is applied makes it harder for our government to get into bed with them & it hits where it hurts. You can not be part of the international trade community and behave like this.

Report

I understand the worry on a personal level but at the same time, I just spent the last few days there on business and don't feel that there is any reason to worry on a 'shall I cancel my holiday/let's ban his from the country' level. He can sign all the executive orders he wants - it will not mean the normal Americans will suddenly become racist bigots or indeed make the US any less safe from a terrorist perspective.

What happens when people shun areas or nations because of terrorist events or militant dictators? Ordinary people trying to make a living are the ones that suffer.
