Hello All

Thought it would be a good idea to get a thread going where we can all share our thoughts, fears and check we've got everything covered for next week and beyond!!!!

When do I return to work - mon 5th Jan
DC? - 9 mth DD
How long have I been off- left work in feb last year so almost a year off, where has it gone??????
Childcare - mum is having her
hours - Full Time
Thoughts about going back - If I think about work alone, am excited and bring it on! If I think about PFB I don't want anyone spending all day with her every week but me not even my mum

Ok so what have I got done, house full deep clean, work clothes (bought not yet tried on) and shoes,

What have I got to do? haircut, buy all stuff needed for mums house,

What else do I need to do???

Some tips for settling your LOs in nursery
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/nurseries/674038-Tips-for-new-parents-putting-their-child-into-nursery?msgid=13 734820

Maybe someone who is putting their LO with a CM could start one of the CM board.

ConstantlyWritingThankYouCards · 01/01/2009 18:20

DC? DS only 11 weeks old.

How long have I been off for - 4 months

Hello! Can I join in too?

I am returning to work on Monday 5th Jan in my (almost) dream job! I am going to be working as a Reception class TA in a local primary and I am soooo excited! I am hoping to become a teacher in the future. I just completed an Early Years Foundation Degree and have to do the third year top up and a PGCE before that can happen, but I had DS right at the end of my degree and decided to take some time off.

I haven't actually worked since November 2007, after I was really ill in pregnancy and ended up getting loads of hassle for it. So, although I am excited about returning to work, I'm also a little apprehensive.

DD is 5 on the 25th of this month and is in Reception. DS is now 7 months and will be going to a fab CM.

My plan all week has been to clean my house and organise it a bit better. DH works long hours and does as little as possible around the house which as a SAHM I haven't minded, but I have a feeling it is going to continue once I do go back to work. The cleaning isn't going so well so I have had to join the slattern's thread to keep me going ! That was really the main thing bothering me.

My thoughts about returning to work are a bit mixed atm. I am excited about going back to work, particularly in a school, but it is not something I have ever done before. My experience has all been baby units and day nurseries so this is a bit out of my comfort zone.

I was also offered the job over 3 teachers, 5 graduates and 13 nursery nurses so I think their expectations are going to be extremely high and I just hope I can meet them!

IB, I have been reading your other threads about returning to work and feel that you are so worried. Keep posting and I'm sure by the time you start, things will start to look/feel a bit easier.

When do I return to work - mon 5th Jan
Ooh, if February starters can join, me too please?!

DC? - DD will be 9.5 mo
How long have I been off- 10 months
Childcare - with DH on Mondays, Nursery Tues, Wed, Thurs, and with me on Fridays.
hours - Part time, me and DH (I'll have Friday's off and DH is having Monday's off)
Thoughts about going back - Very excited, although nervous as am being put forward for promotion by my boss and don't want to disappoint (sp?) by being crapola. Also nervous about putting DD in nursery and hope she will settle in quickly. Am thinking about it being good for her developmentally, meeting lots of other little people.

Ok so what have I got done: naff all yet, but I'm thinking I've still got plenty of time?

What have I got to do? EVERYTHING?!! Label clothes, get haircut, get cleaner, buy clothes that fit me, remember how to look professional (if I ever did), remember how to think, try to wean myself off daytime use of mumsnet....

VeryHungryKatypillar · 02/01/2009 19:29

I can't believe the 5th is hear already, I am so scared.

Couldn't fit in a haircut and didn't really have the cash anyway so just had to get my mum to trim it. Thankfully it looks ok, but i will need to get it done properly soon.

Kids are still off school tommorow so have only had to sort out my own stuff for tommorow, although have ironed all 3 dc enough uniform for the week aswell.

My mum is having them tommorow so have made sure there is stuff in that she can give them for lunch and dinner etc.

When do I return to work - mon 5th Jan

DC's - dd1 10yrs, dd2 8yrs, ds1 nearly 5yrs, dd3 22mths, ds2 7.5mths

How long have I been off- in total I have been on maternity leave for the last 23 mths,

Childcare - DH is going to finish early on the days that i work

hours - 2 x 8hr shifts a week (spread out quite a bit though)

Thoughts about going back - After the last year that I have had I am looking forward to a sense of normallity,

Ok so what have I got done? - nothing, I have got the older dc's uniforms ready to go back on wednesday and that is about it.

IllegallyBrunette · 05/01/2009 06:41

Good luck to everyone who goes back today

I am sat here with a nice cup of tea and some toast trying to pretend it isn't happening. Didn't sleep a wink last night either.

pudding25 · 05/01/2009 13:10

Hope you are all having a good day if you started back today.

Hope I can join. I go back April 1 and feel sick every time I think about it. Part-time, 3 day jobshare as a primary teacher and dreading it. MIL doing 1 day and hoping to get a nursery place for the other 2 days and really worried I won't. Only going back as we need the cash, DD will be 10.5 mths and I will have had 1yr maternity leave.

If it was just going in and teaching, it would not be so bad, but it is the enormous amount of work that needs to be done out of school and all the stress involved.

I am already having nightmares every night.

I think DD will love nursery after the initial settling in.

In an ideal world (ie where I was rich!), I would go back one day per wk when she was about 2.

ummadam · 05/01/2009 19:48

Hi and welcome pudding25

How were those first days then? Ours started badly with snow when we left the house at 7.15am (and it was still dark!) then DS started crying when we got there and had to be distracted by toast (typical boy) I gave him a big hug and kiss and left before he could see me start to cry and then had a good cry in the car on the way to work (and at the nursery manager ). Got to work and it was a bit stressful being back - think the next few weeks will be harder than today as am easing back in with clinics and paperwork and not oncall this week - but it was actually ok.....

......I had a good time
...... I missed him, but it was ok.
.....He had a good time
.....He needed his dummy this evening as got a bit overtired and was very glad to get home... but it was ok.

and we do it all again tomorrow!

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 05/01/2009 22:50

Welcome Pudding25!!

Ummadam - glad it was ok.

Mine was ok except boss was not expecting me due to a mix up plus couldn't get signed onto PC and won't be able to till next week ont he plus side a phased return meant I was at work for 4 hours and I too get to do it again.

Getting ready and baby feed and ready was fine, going to try washing my hair tomorrow as even the snow didn't get in the way, wish me luck!!!!

OP posts:
cass66 · 06/01/2009 20:39

Can I join too?

Back to work - Tues 3rd Feb
2 days a week, tues and weds, hours 9-5 but 30mins drive to work so baby in nursery 815 to 530ish.
children - DD1 6yrs, DD2 4ys and DS 6 months
childcare - nursery

Really looking forward to going back, worried I've forgotten everything, and that my locum was/is better than me.

Really worried about leaving baby all day in nursery. Mostly because he's only on boob and food, not really taken a bottle and I'm not good at expressing. I trust the nursery, my other 2 went there.

To do - settle baby into nursery. remember everything I've learnt. get electric expresso machine. try ds with bottle.

Done - book after school club, remind husband of his responsibilities.

Good luck all going back sooner!

SAEJ · 06/01/2009 20:43

Hi,
I am due back to work tomorrow. Have been off for the last 6 months and my DS is 5 months 3 weeks.

I go back, full time, onto 12 hour shifts tomorrow and am pretty terrified. Days should be ok but not having had any sleep in the last 6 months I have no idea how I will manage to stay awake on the nights.

Childcare is also a nightmare - DH is doing the majority but our childminder dropped out this week!!!!!!!! Can't even think about how we are going to manage this yet. Going to get my firts set of shifts out the way and then worry about it. . .

Good luck to everyone who went back this week.

ummadam · 06/01/2009 22:43

welcome! the more the merrier!

Goodluck for tomorrow SAEJ - are you medical/nursing? it's the shifts and long days that are really getting me - want a time machine to tell my younger self that a nice office job would be a good plan!

cass66 - have you tried getting someone other than you to give him a bottle? my DS will take one from DH but not me and he eats much better at nursery than he will for either of us! (he plays with us at mealtimes and tries to feed us instead which nursery don't tolerate and he just gets on with it).

Good luck everyone!

KayCee10 · 07/01/2009 20:22

Me too!

Back to work - Weds 4th Feb
Hours - FULL TIME!! 5 Days a week - 9am - 4.30pm
children - DS will be 6 months when I go back
childcare - nursery most of the time. Partner on shifts so he will either collect from nursery early or be off to look after him

Things done - have bought about 7 new work outfits from xmas money in the sales. Also bought DS lots of outfits/vests/socks so won't have to worry about shopping for him for a good few months.

Things to do - Lose about a stone to feel a bit better about myself, blitz the house, book hair appointment and eyebrow wax, reheel work shoes, fill freezer with ready meals, do a BIG shop over the internet to see us through. Oh and most importantly...
get some nice pics of DS and some photoframes for my desk!

Good luck ladies - let us know how you get on x
