Told Off - Need To Leave

Moaning5 · 02/10/2026 19:47

Told off publicly by my boss.

He worked on a budget that has implications to other budget holders in my team.

We have spoken about it numerous times over the past 12 months - there was never any ambiguity over the implications.

I looped in the rest of the team this week.
Oh my word the drama that’s come from it (mostly justified tbh).

Boss has done a 180, denied all knowledge of it and made me look a tool.
Also told me off for using a Word Teams channel for the comms - apparently this isn’t the place for work related chat.

l never going back.

Sounds like you wouldn’t be welcome back anyway

DewDropsAndCobWebs · 02/10/2026 19:55

Yikes!
Is it a role you have had for a while?

Moaning5 · 02/10/2026 20:08

18 months in post. Lots of convos about this.

What’s going to happen on Monday??

So you unilaterally communicated without your boss’s green light?

Why did you do that OP? That does seem an extremely unusual thing to do, and clearly not something that will make your boss see you as a reliable ally and safe pair of hands!

Nothing presumably

Edited

Because I was asked if it had been shared to other relevant budget holders by a senior member of staff

Really? So you’ll stroll in all as normal?

chirrupybird · 02/10/2026 20:14

What was your intent in doing this if you knew the boss wouldn't be happy about it?

Smartiepants79 · 02/10/2026 20:15

But did they tell you to make sure that the other knew? Did they tell you to share the info?
What do you mean you’re never going back? Don’t you have to work your notice? Do you not need your salary?

Dullhead · 02/10/2026 20:15

Moaning5 · 02/10/2026 20:09

really

Well yes OP

and quite bizarre to think otherwise

clearly the boss can’t stand you and wants you out

chirrupybird · 02/10/2026 20:17

You'd better hope the senior member of staff supports you, looks like you have been used as a pawn.

LadyLapsang · 02/10/2026 20:51

Surely you send official messages by email. Teams messages disappear so there is no corporate memory. Had your boss stated the draft was ready to share for comment?

“I’m never going back”

so you are admitting you are wrong.

otherwise why wouldn’t you?

When I asked what’s going to happen on Monday… the OP’s peculiar response was “nothing”

cartagenagina · 02/10/2026 21:16

I’m not sure I understand what happened here.

Were you authorised by boss to share the budget info with the team?

TEAMS chat seems an odd choice for communicating that kind of information.

FreebieWallopFridge · 02/10/2026 21:26

You communicated the budget your boss has put together to other stakeholders via Teams, knowing full well that the implications of that budget would cause problems with those stakeholders and knowing your boss had not asked you to communicate it?

That’s a fairly problematic thing for you to have done.

Aaloyisha · 02/10/2026 21:27

So - one senior person asked if you had shared (not told you to share).

But the senior person who is responsible wanted it to remain private, which is often very important for budget issues.

Yet you shared anyway.

Im not surprised they’re cross with you!

Dullhead · 02/10/2026 21:35

There is quite a history with this OP in the workplace

Dullhead · 02/10/2026 21:35

I would imagine

You don’t think that there might be a back story between this OP and her boss??!

THisbackwithavengeance · 03/10/2026 07:15

I have absolutely no clue if the OP is in the right or in the wrong. But It bothers me that an adult feels able to humiliate another adult in a professional setting regardless of where they sit in the packing order.

And yes some fucking spiteful comments on this thread.

I’m public service OP, and people go off on the sick with stress for 6 months in reaction to this kind of shit but I’m guessing it’s not an option in a corporate setting?
