Told Off - Need To Leave

Told off publicly by my boss.

He worked on a budget that has implications to other budget holders in my team.

We have spoken about it numerous times over the past 12 months - there was never any ambiguity over the implications.

I looped in the rest of the team this week.
Oh my word the drama that’s come from it (mostly justified tbh).

Boss has done a 180, denied all knowledge of it and made me look a tool.
Also told me off for using a Word Teams channel for the comms - apparently this isn’t the place for work related chat.

l never going back.

I have absolutely no clue if the OP is in the right or in the wrong. But It bothers me that an adult feels able to humiliate another adult in a professional setting regardless of where they sit in the packing order.

And yes some fucking spiteful comments on this thread.

I’m public service OP, and people go off on the sick with stress for 6 months in reaction to this kind of shit but I’m guessing it’s not an option in a corporate setting?

Perhaps the boss feels the Op attempted to humiliate him in a professional setting by involving the entire team in a matter between him and the Op

She said the budget affected other budget holders in her team. It sounds like her boss has been prevaricating. If he’s now back tracked on the decision then perhaps it wasn’t the right one all along. OP has forced the issue, lots of stress and shaming going on, but it might be for the best in the long run.

Asking if has been shared is not the same as asking can you share. And even then you'd say to your manager x wishes it shared now. And doing it on teams i a beyond weird

were you just desperate to tell people and cause some drama ?

It is common to work on a budget without sharing it, in part or entirety, to the stakeholders/managers affected. What if the consequence were a reduction in headcount or withdrawal of existing services, for example, which you probably would not want revealed in a less managed way. Op has jumped the gun and the more senior managers may well be unhappy at both the timing and way she has communicated it, and may even be disciplinary. Whether the manager’s reaction was proportionate or appropriate is a different matter.
