Bitterness about redundancy

Do any of you “blacklist” an organisation after they make you redundant? I used to work for a large Corporate telecoms organisation, and as soon as they made me redundant, I cancelled my TV, Mobile & broadband subscriptions with them. I used to get TV for free and heavily subsidised Mobile and broadband subscriptions. My subs went to full price. There was no way I was going to give them my money after they made me redundant.
Does anyone else do this with their workplace or am I just really bitter?

Bitter about the company that made me redundant but also bitter about all the companies that won’t give me a job or even send me a reply when I apply to work for them! My list of companies I will no longer buy from this growing by the day!

I would never recommend the company that made me redundant to anyone (I didn't while I was working there anyway, it's terrible). I love the people I worked with but the leadership team were horrendous and I still have PTSD every time I think about another corporate job.

I was made redundant after Brexit. I am not bitter towards my former employer because I understand it was a business decision and not a personal insult. Perhaps it makes a difference that it came at a really good time for me when I was looking to change direction anyway. And I was actively encouraged to apply for one of the new posts that was created as a result of the restructure, but chose not to.

Ultimately, if you don't want to give your money to any company for any reason, then that is absolutely your prerogative.

No bitterness at all. It's business not personal.

But I wouldn't keep any of the previously free services if they were not worth the full cost to me afterwards. I've had free perks due to working certain jobs but I wouldn't ordinarily be bothered to pay for those perks.Neither me or the company owe anything to each other.

I would continue to recommend them if my time there was good and if we parted on good professional terms.

I refuse to fly on one of the airlines that made my father redundant 30 years ago. It was made redundant several times (but one was particularly nasty).

Yes, I would do the same and cancel mobile and broadband and go to one of the competitors

Just to add, the company making us redundant was absolutely fantastic in helping us through redundancy next steps.

They ran sessions on how the legal timescales would work in line with the company . They gave people time out to update certain skills in order to help with job searches and attend interviews for jobs elsewhere. They helped people update their CVs. Most staff had been working there long term at least 5+ years . Lots of people didn't gave updated CVs or external skills/qualifications.

They encouraged people to apply for other jobs within the company if they wanted to do so too.

I won’t have a trades person work for me if they voted for Brexit.

I’m currently looking for another job as my current employer treat me/ us like shit.

Once I leave I will never spend a penny with that company again (household name). One of the reasons why they treat us so badly is due to their failing profits. They basically blame the staff, rather than incompetent leadership.

Most of my lovely colleagues have left, with only the horrible ones remaining, so when I see the company fail in a few years, I won’t shed a single tear.

What’s the company?

I am bitter because my new boss subjected me to months of performance improvement plan (never had issues before and former boss hade made me head of dept) with really non specific issues and bitchily saying it was because I was not nice to her when she started. She totally trashed my reputation and then I was made redundant, “not because of performance issues”. If they’d done none of that I would have been ok and they’d treated me ok.

Ha ha I don’t blame you, I no longer buy from a company which a previous colleague went to work at, said colleague was the most toxic horrible person to work with

I was made redundant after 26 years at a holiday/airline company. I was heartbroken. I refused to fly/travel with them after that (despite them actually being cheaper and imho better than the other big companies at the time). In hindsight, I was lucky as got a redundancy package and my lovely ex colleagues got nothing three years later when they went bust nearly 10 years ago.

After the year I’ve had and 20 years in the company I’d be heartbroken and do the same. I think I’ll be made redundant too and I would never use them

I was made redundant once but I’m not bitter - they were a fantastic company and treated us really well. Unfortunately, they were struggling and couldn’t keep going (after a few golden years).

I worked for a charity after that and there was a round of redundancies and I don’t feel they handled it very well (but I kept my job).

I’m happy to boycott any company that treats me badly, generally.

I wouldn't cut of my nose to spite my face, as my gran said. As in, I was offered a job in a popular clothes shop in the noughties, and handed in my notice at my existing job. Then they called me and said they couldn't take me on after all (no contract yet signed). Still shopped there, because I liked the stuff.
But I did cancel insurance after a travel insurance company treated a friend badly, and a newspaper article showed they did the same to a bereaved woman (making her jump through hoops/delaying payment when I feel they should have been compassionate).

I’m right it won’t of been a surprise they’ve wanted no direct labour for YEARS and it all being out to contract
Also they wages the pay are unsustainable money for old rope and there staff do the bare minimum 2 three jobs a day where contractors do 6
very entitled workforce who do the bare minimum
the problem is they did a massive recruitment drive 10 years ago and people were given the impression jobs for life where as now there all out on there arse and can’t find anything as easy for the money

It wasn’t actually, but won’t most be the same, too large, bad managers, toxic, a lot of wasteful process, employees treated badly even though they have company values that are the opposite of what you experience

I wouldn’t do anything that inconvenienced me - it’s only me that suffers.
It’s best not to take redun dancy personally, in my experience. Normally there is nothing you could have done differently, it is just a business decision.
