My pay is different to what is normally paid. I’ve been paid for 4 weeks which is what I have worked this month. HR said it’s because we usually get paid 12 equal payments for admin purposes, but when you leave you get paid for the days you work. Does this sound correct?

Well you won’t get paid for any days you won’t have worked. So if you leave part way through a month, your pay will be pro rated up to your leaving date, and adjusted for any annual leave you owe them or vice versa.

You have been paid exactly what you worked.

whats the issue?

annual salary does even out the differing working days of the month so it works out per annum.

you have been paid for the time you worked in that month.

you have been paid correctly if i have read your post correct.

They have paid you correctly. An annual
salary is as it says, per annum. Most if not every month you work different days depending on how many working days in the month.

you have been paid your final working month for the exact days that month you have been paid.

@dadtoateen thanks. I don’t remember this happening in previous jobs. I was expecting to see the usual monthly amount. It’s not quite as much as I usually get.

If your normal pay is equal twelfths then you get 4.3 weeks per month (52weeks/12). This time you got 4 weeks, which you said was correct.
Have they also paid you for holiday accrued but not taken?

@senua I worked 4 weeks this month, but I usually get the same pay each month, so I wasn’t expecting to be paid less than what I usually get paid. I have been paid holiday pay.

Yes.

Your salary is annual, split over 12m and assumes you'll be there for 12m. Some months have more or less working days (Jan and Feb e.g.) but across the year, you'll be paid that full year salary.

If you leave, it'll be pro-ratad to reflect the actual days you worked.

You get paid an annual salary divided into 12 equal payments per calendar month. You worked the full month, so you should get the full calendar month's pay. Seems to me they've been a bit of an arse by doing it this way.

I work in payroll in a large accountancy firm. If you have worked a full month you should receive a full month pay, same as previous months, annual salary/12.
If you left mid month this would be adjusted for working days in the month.

Most companies will take your annual salary and divide it into 12ths and pay you that each month. It is a convenient way of dividing up the payroll year.

When you leave a job, you will get paid for the working days to your leave date within that month. This is usually:

Annual salary / 260 working days in the year x number of days worked.

What is your actual leave date

What date did you leave? With us if say you left on 20th Feb you would receive 20/28ths of a month's pay.

It might depend on how your work calculates pay. I.e. for my current work, we get paid mid-way through the month. A portion of the payment is in arrears for the weeks of the month that have already happened, and a portion is in advance for the days that haven’t yet happened. That means that if I left and my last working day was payday, I’d actually end up with less than normal because I wouldn’t be getting the advance portion of the payment. Could be something like that? Your initial contract should explain if there’s anything like that going on

My last day is on Thursday. I don’t work on a Friday, so I have worked a full month. I work 20 hours per week. My pay has been worked out 4 weeks based on me working 20 hours per week. I usually just get paid a flat monthly rate. I usually get paid £1,170 monthly. This month my gross pay is £1,080. I also got some holiday pay too.

Ok. Your termination date is Thursday 26th February? If so, you have not been paid a full month and this is correct.

To get a full months pay your termination date should have been Friday 27th

By some strange coincidence I am part time and don't work Fridays. I am leaving this month on the 27th. I am getting a full month's pay.

Might be worth checking the pay period it covers. I get paid on the last working day of each month but it covers a pay period from the 6th - 5th of each month so if I left on the 30th/31st I’d actually lose a weeks pay!
