Final pay

My pay is different to what is normally paid. I’ve been paid for 4 weeks which is what I have worked this month. HR said it’s because we usually get paid 12 equal payments for admin purposes, but when you leave you get paid for the days you work. Does this sound correct?

What is your official date of leaving? If it’s 26th (Thursday) then you’ve been paid correctly for 26 out of the 28 days of Feb (divide (£1,170 by 28, multiply by 26 and you get £1,086).

You would only get paid for the full month if your termination date was 28 February.

My last day is on Thursday. I don’t work on a Friday, so I have worked a full month. I work 20 hours per week. My pay has been worked out 4 weeks based on me working 20 hours per week. I usually just get paid a flat monthly rate. I usually get paid £1,170 monthly. This month my gross pay is £1,080. I also got some holiday pay too.

You should have got your monthly salary if you worked the full month. It’s incorrect to treat the last month differently than the prior months which didn’t vary according to number of working days. Contact payroll in writing and ask for an explanation. If you don’t work Fridays your termination date should still be the end of the month. This may be where they have made an error.

Ok. Your termination date is Thursday 26th February? If so, you have not been paid a full month and this is correct.

To get a full months pay your termination date should have been Friday 27th

By some strange coincidence I am part time and don't work Fridays. I am leaving this month on the 27th. I am getting a full month's pay.

Why would the OP lose a days pay for finishing in tge 26th? Even if she stated her last day as the 27th she wouldn’t get paid for the 27th because she doesn’t usually work it.

Thank you for your replies. I queried what I had been paid. I should have been paid for the month, so they are going to pay me the difference.
