Is this normal? Invited for NHS interview the day after applying

NHSinterviewupcoming · 15/06/2025 15:41

I applied for a role within my local NHS trust on Thursday evening, and by mid afternoon on the Friday I was invited for an interview.

i’m trying to not get too hopeful about this being a good sign, but this seems extraordinarily quick? The role only closed on Thursday night.

No that's not normal. It usually takes a lot longer than that.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 15/06/2025 15:42

You applied for it on the closing day, I suspect they had already begun a short listing process.

Is that a good or a bad sign?

When was the deadline for apps closing?

Unless desperate to fill slot

Thursday night. I applied four hours before the deadline

Invitations to interviews go out after all the applications have been reviewed and shortlisted. This either means that there weren’t many applicants so shortlisting was quick, or that Friday was the last day before one or more of the reviewers’ annual leave so they spent all day shortlisting.

So is it a relatively good sign? I’ve basically been told I’ll be losing my job, so getting this would be a huge help!

I wouldn't read much into it since you applied literally on closing.. there could be a number of factors that meant it went out so quickly

Is that a good or a bad sign?

Either they are critically desperate to fill the role asap
or
You submitted application on or very close to cut off date and they are close to finishing up the interviewing process and you’ll be the last few

Ah, so it could be quite a bad sign then 😕

Oh there we have it then! That is the reason.

Productiveweek · 15/06/2025 15:53

How long had they been advertising the position for?

Op you have an interview

That is a good sign

now rather than think about this, get prepping for the interview itself!!!

Tooearlytothink · 15/06/2025 15:56

Quite standard for managers to have time set aside the day after closing, or a day or two later, to review applicants & shortlist for interview. Certainly is in the dept/board I work in. If people do a mix of working patterns then it can be tricky to get together so planning ahead is key so likely arranged this when job advert went live & they knew closing date.

It means nothing at all I’m afraid. I hope I’m wrong and you’re the only candidate 🙂

Lucylucylucyloo · 15/06/2025 15:59

I’m a lead interviewer for the NHS. I shortlist immediately after the closing date and interview invites are generated as soon as I push the button. Managers are bombarded with emails from HR as soon as it closes every step of the way until the persons first day so I’ve learnt to be quick!

Good luck with your interview!

I’m prepping! Just really hopeful for this, as it seems like a role I would love!

I don't think it is either a bad or a good side. They want go fill the vacancy quickly. They shortlisted all the applications on the day after closing day and invited successful candidates to an interview. If you had applied on the first day the job was advertised it would have been the same outcome.
Good luck

I hope you’re right! I applied for another job that closed on the same day, and I’ve not heard anything yet

It just means you have a very efficient shortlisting team! When I am the lead recruiter on TRAC I usually put some time aside the day after the closing date to shortlist.

Good luck!

Crack on with prepping

Most nhs jobs I’ve gone for are pretty much shortlisted in the day or 2 following closing date, interview dates are on the job spec etc

So following application closure, the next day you received an invite to interview for a week’s time

neither good nor bad sign. Standard process
