Is this normal? Invited for NHS interview the day after applying

I applied for a role within my local NHS trust on Thursday evening, and by mid afternoon on the Friday I was invited for an interview.

i’m trying to not get too hopeful about this being a good sign, but this seems extraordinarily quick? The role only closed on Thursday night.

So following application closure, the next day you received an invite to interview for a week’s time

neither good nor bad sign. Standard process

Darn. I’d seen online that it takes 1-2 weeks for shortlisting to even happen. Guess I’d better keep looking as it means I’ve not got the interview for the other one!

I’m a lead interviewer for the NHS. I shortlist immediately after the closing date and interview invites are generated as soon as I push the button. Managers are bombarded with emails from HR as soon as it closes every step of the way until the persons first day so I’ve learnt to be quick!

Good luck with your interview!

This!!

i would say the exact same thing - if it was our team, if the closing date was a Thursday we would ideally shortlist on the Friday. And once the decisions are made, recruitment send the invites out on the same day.

so perfectly normal from my point of view! A good sign :)

good luck

Thursday night. I applied four hours before the deadline

Well obviously that’s why you heard so quickly. I always used to short list the day after the advert closed. No point looking at applications before then.

You can’t read anything into this at all. Sometimes shortlisting happens immediately. Sometimes it’s delayed because one of the people shortlisting is unavailable, or the interview date is several weeks away. Sometimes it takes ages because there are a lot of applicants. Sometimes it’s quick because there aren’t many applicants, or because there’s a tight turnaround because the interview date is next week.

Anyone telling you that particular timescales are standard practice are only speaking from their own experience. Their experience is not universal.

Is that a good or a bad sign?

It's neither good nor bad. It just happens that as you applied close to the closing deadline the gap between you applying and the interview date was smaller. Had you applied 2 weeks ago then the gap would have been bigger. That's all thats happened here.

It would be nice to think that whoever saw your application thought you were so freaking amazing they wanted to get you in ASAP before someone else snaps you up but I really think it's just because you applied near to the deadline, thats all.

Pity they're not as quick, setting up the start date.
