Mondays as it means I can use my bank holiday allowance whenever I want, and I always get the bank hols off as well

mamabluestar · 20/03/2025 18:23

How is your bank holiday leave allocated? Where I work we are given an allowance to cover bank holidays - by not working a Monday I get to keep this allowance to use as I choose

cinnamongirl123 · 20/03/2025 18:28

Friday! I went down to 4 days, but as others had already taken Fridays, Mondays & Thursdays, I was given the choice of Tues or Weds. Not really fair, but there it is.

kiwiblue · 20/03/2025 18:28

Monday. I don't like working a three day week if it's a bank holiday and I like getting the bank holidays as extra leave.

MsNevermore · 20/03/2025 18:29

Friday!

As someone else said upthread: I like a productive Monday and a lazy Friday!

cinnamongirl123 · 20/03/2025 18:29

And I use it for housework & life admin…

AnnaBegins · 20/03/2025 18:34

Depends how your work do bank holidays.

I used to have a Thursday off, loved it as everything was open, and my work treated bank holidays as additional allowance so I got all the bank holidays plus 80% of annual leave.

Now I have Mondays off because my new job pro rata the bank holidays, but I don't have to use that pro rata'd leave on Monday bank hols, so I get extra leave.

However nothing is open on a Monday so I've not had my hair cut in months!

stanleypops66 · 20/03/2025 18:37

Mondays off. I’ve not worked a Monday in 15 years and I never get the Monday night blues. Friday is good as people are happier and you know you have the weekend.

Gundogday · 20/03/2025 18:37

Fridays, definitely! Long weekend every week, yippee!

Also, if you have Mondays off, you don’t benefit from bank holidays.

mummyh2016 · 20/03/2025 18:40

Depends on the job. I used to have Mondays off but worked in sales, my figures took a huge plummet in those 6 months as most of the enquiries used to come in over a weekend.

If it was a none sales role I’d definitely go with a Monday off.

okydokethen · 20/03/2025 18:46

Friday as a number of my friends don’t work Fridays.
Monday feels more productive setting house/life up and ready for the week.

HollyBerryz · 20/03/2025 18:48

Friday so I get all the bank holiday Mondays too

marmiteandcheeseoncrumpetspls · 20/03/2025 18:54

Knee jerk reaction is 'Friday' but actually it has to be Monday.

There's a different, more relaxed vibe on a Friday anyway with significantly less meetings scheduled so it's a good day already.
Although I love my job, Sundays are better when I don't have work in the morning!

I'm jel, I would looove to reduce to 4 days. Enjoy, whichever you choose 😍

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 20/03/2025 18:55

Tuesday. Monday feels like a Friday and no one minds working Fridays as you get the Friday feeling and everyone is in a great mood!

Louloulaughs · 20/03/2025 19:19

I have Monday off. I wanted Friday but I actually really like it. Those who have Friday off find Thursday more stressful. Everyone is preparing for the weekend on a Friday so it doesn’t fell the same when Monday is your day off. I also get more leave in lieu of bank holidays as more are on Monday. The only downside is things being closed/not open on Monday e.g hairdressers.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 20/03/2025 19:28

It depends how much you hate Mondays.

Gettingbysomehow · 20/03/2025 19:30

Wednesday. Then you only ever have to work 2 days before getting a break. Great if you don't feel well.

Gcsunnyside23 · 20/03/2025 20:03

I did both and Monday worked best as loads of school holidays are on a Monday so I didn't need to use as many holidays. Plus people are in a better mood on a Friday and it's nicer to work

NatalieH2220 · 20/03/2025 20:17

Take Fridays off as you would already get some Mondays off as bank holidays

JG24 · 20/03/2025 21:05

i used to be off on Mondays and noting was open! So it depends what you want to use the day off for. If you have children and want to take them out to paid places then choose Friday

Oblomov25 · 20/03/2025 21:09

Depends. I do Mondays, Dh had Fridays. Some places are very relaxed on a Friday so I woking take that day of work was like that.

Shoemadlady · 20/03/2025 23:07

It totallly depends on your business or the camping leave scheme. At my place we give people the bank holiday as additional leave if they don’t work five days. This means that people that work mon - Thursday have to use those days to book off the bhs but those that work Tuesday - Friday don’t but get the same so they’re advantaged. Be very careful!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/03/2025 23:17

I've worked 4 days, Tuesday-Friday for years. I like it. I could've chosen whichever 4 days I wanted. I do 4 x 8.5 hrs. The way we deal with bank holidays for PTers always works in my favour.

Turmerictolly · 20/03/2025 23:26

Tuesdays are the best days off. Lots of BH Mondays so you automatically have a 4 day break plus if you take two days leave, Fri and Mon you get a 5 day break.

You do still benefit! You are still off like everyone else but you also have the day in lieu to use when you like
