Hi,

I'm really sad that I've received a complaint against me today. Someone had complained that I lacked empathy in a meeting about their health. I feel others emotions and I am very empathetic but I struggle socially and I'm very aware of it, when I heard the complaint, it made me really punish myself and question if I'm right for the role. At the time of this meeting I was going through a really hard time mentally and so was probably being too process driven and not as sympathetic as I could have been but I meant well. Please share complaints you've received so I know I'm not the only one?

I had a complaint made against me about 15 years ago when I was starting out and to be fair it was a completely legit complaint...
Worked in a bank. Client came storming In absolutely furious that they had received a letter from a provider- say the AA, confirming cancellation of a direct debit because they had died. They obviously hadn't died they were stood right infront of me and were very angry at the inconvenience of the DD being cancelled on account of their death. It was a complete administrative error but at the time I just couldn't understand the clients rage and fury so I wasn't very sympathetic, and said well your clearly not dead so let's get that rectified and reinstate the DD, they were even more angry that I wasn't more sympathetic and I asked how exactly this had impacted them as...they were not dead? Looking back I should have apologised for the error and offered some form of compensation but to be honest I couldn't be bothered and the fact they started the interaction kicking off just pissed me off and showed I didn't care about this job and soon left! I'd handle it differently now. Kill with kindness

My sister received a letter telling her she was dead. She phoned up the company and the guy who answered it didn't know what to say. Mistakes happen

I'm a solicitor. In court representing very heavily pregnant client who also had young child. He wouldn't leave her house and had been violent to her.
I asked him if he was really going to put his pregnant wife through giving evidence. He told me the only way he was leaving that house was if the government gave him a 3 bed house somewhere else.
I told Him to get a job and pay for his own house.
That apparently made me racist and he complained about me to the court.

The court removed him from the house at a later hearing. He was also found guilt of threatening me on another occasion as well.

I used to work in travel - I had a client complain that I had a 'flippant attitude' because I was unimpressed when she said she would have to get money out of her safe deposit box to pay for her holiday!

DD works at a college doing the lunches. Has 2 part time jobs. One young man was very rude to her so she gave him a talking to. Said she didn't like his language and to have more respect. She's not even 5 foot. Anyway a teacher heard and made a complaint. Poor little cherub apparently should be allowed to speak to young women like shit if they do menial work.

Hmmm… why does your daughter’s height come into it?

I'm a bit suspicious on this one. It’s interesting that the complaint came from another member of staff rather than the student.

That reminded me of a complaint from a customer

apparently I looked like I wanted to go for my lunch at 12pm

my manager laughed - I never took lunch until about 3pm
