Am I going to get into trouble for this?

Ive been off work sick for 2 days (thur/fri) which I never am but feel like I have the flu and been bed ridden. Today my partner said please come out for a walk and some fresh air so I decided to try. Lo and behold I walk into one of the managers from work and we cross paths and say hi.

I feel really panicked because it makes it seem like Ive been skiving off or that I have been well enough to come in. My partner says I am overexaggerating.

What do you think?

You are allowed to leave the house when you're ill. It depends where you were walking really, a day out type place or locally?

Chattyapple123 · 01/02/2025 14:16

We were walking down a local street I was going to try and buy a book

I really wouldn’t worry about it - they probably haven’t thought of it once since

tezzz · 01/02/2025 14:17

No. You won't get In trouble. You are allowed to get out of your house. You might have been on the way to the doctors or pharmacy..

Chattyapple123 · 01/02/2025 14:18

The type of manager is very strict so I definitely think its going to get back to someone and I will be pulled in on Monday

You know, it is possible to be too unwell to go to work but well enough to go for a short walk.

You haven't done anything wrong so don't worry.

Enya321 · 01/02/2025 14:20

just be honest you were going on a walk for some air and have been bed ridden.

OneLilacGuide · 01/02/2025 14:22

I would encourage my direct reports to get outside for a walk if they could while off sick.

Jabbabong · 01/02/2025 14:32

'I needed some fresh air to try and make myself feel better'

You are not going to get in trouble

heyhopotato · 01/02/2025 14:58

Not really buying that you were well enough to go and buy a book if you were 2 days into flu, and even if you were you shouldn't be out spreading it. Going for a walk is how you start your post but by the end it sounds like you were going shopping.

But they can't prove anything.

Chattyapple123 · 01/02/2025 15:01

@heyhopotato No i was ill from Tuesday forced myself in on Wednesday and it got worse Thursday and yesterday where I was bed ridden still felt ill this morning then at midday my partner said lets go for a walk down the road and we can stop in and get a book for you to read when your back home. Im not spreading it I use handgel regularly and keep my distance. I didn't even end up getting one in the end.

Hand gel no good against flu, don't "force yourself in" because you'll be contagious.

FreddoSwaggins · 01/02/2025 15:50

Are you supposed to be working today? If not, then the strict manager has nothing to report.

I mean they wouldn't even if you were due in because you were sick and unable to work, which doesn't mean unable to leave the house.

Plus its not school as the only rules that matter are whatever is in your work sick policy.

if you have a certificate from your GP (if you are required one) and contacted your manager as required then that's all is needed.

mummysmagicmedicine · 01/02/2025 15:50

Manager may be funny but explain from your pov. I don’t see any issue!

Chattyapple123 · 01/02/2025 15:58

@FreddoSwaggins no I work mon-fri. Thankyou I just get worried about peoples view of me.

Are you well to enough to go in tomorrow?

stichguru · 01/02/2025 16:02

A manager should be able to see that managing a short walk near your house is different from managing to concentrate all day at work.

Ok so why are you worried?

comedycentral · 01/02/2025 16:06

You could have been to the chemist or something for all they know.

I think my manager will think of she was off yesterday and now its the weekend suddenly shes well enough to go on a walk. She is very strict with rules and is the type to go and share this with other managers and imply Ive been skiving. Theres not much I can do I know I couldnt have worked yesterday but I suffer with anxiety and it made me feel panicked.

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 01/02/2025 16:08

I don't really understand what you mean.
If you were poorly yesterday it just means you were poorly yesterday

Cheeseandpineapple123 · 01/02/2025 16:12

You're not in prison when you are off sick hahaha, you will be fine, your manager probably didn't even give it a 2nd thought.

discoversmatch · 01/02/2025 22:53

Mmm.

I've had some bosses who will think that if you're well enough to go for a walk then you're well enough to go into work.

Good luck!
