And she types very quickly. Long as in artificially long acrylics. The tapping is driving me mad, can I do anything?!

It drives me round the bend. I find it quite selfish. I know I can’t do anything really, it was tongue in cheek.

Dont you stop hearing it after a while? I used to work next to squeaky automatic doors which I didn't hear after the first 10/20 mins until someone would say bet thats annoying 😡 and hey presto hearing the doir again.
So I suspect you hear them because it annoys you and you put ypur attention that way.

FrAway · 04/10/2024 18:09

I would just tell her it's driving you mad and you're moving to another office so you can concentrate on your work. Then tell your manager you need to move as you can't get any work done. And repeat until you're moved office

Chillisintheair · 04/10/2024 18:10

Head phone or ear loops.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 04/10/2024 18:11

ooh lovely, that would get my asmr going Grin
i'd be in a stupor

2921j2 · 04/10/2024 18:12

It is quite self absorbed to make a noise like that. Not sure if you can really say anything though

Ilikewinter · 04/10/2024 18:14

Ah do we work in the same office!!!! I work with someone who's nails are about 10cms long and all I can hear is tap tap tap, I honestly don't know how she manages to get anything done!

Really? I'm sure your manager would be thrilled to be dealing with such shite amongst adults.

RoadToRhodes · 04/10/2024 18:16

Buy her a rubberised keyboard

coxesorangepippin · 04/10/2024 18:17

Loop earphones.

With a concerned face regularly point out articles which talk about the dangerous chemicals they allow to seep into your body. This is a good one 😁"Prolonged exposure can result in chronic sensitivities and dermatological issues. Exposure to elevated levels can lead to impaired brain function and potential loss of consciousness."

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/10/2024 19:05

You can get used to any noise and block it out, honestly. But you need to not let yourself get annoyed, because you will associate it with annoyance. Try to associate it with something benign like rain drops or puppy dog nails scampering on a hard floor.

Skyrainlight · 04/10/2024 19:27

Ugh, I feel your pain.

Pebbles16 · 04/10/2024 19:42

I have naturally very long nails - would you be asking me to cut them off?

Mxflamingnoravera · 04/10/2024 19:46

Sounds like you might have misophonia, you need ear cancelling ear buds.
My colleagues know mine go in for eating apples, salad scraping from
Tupperware, crisps etc.

So you think her wearing her nails as she chooses is selfish, but you thinking she should consider your feelings isn't selfish?

It seems there is literally no end to what people will complain about on here.

Would you?
What an unusual work dynamic and so many free offices to choose from!

Mxflamingnoravera · 04/10/2024 19:58

One my colleagues used to hammer keyboard so hard, it merited ear buds

I agree - it’s definitely someone “owning the space”. I’m not keen on people wearing ear buds or headphones at it can seem a bit anti-social but it would be justified here
