It looks like that could be filtered and won't show

I had a very minor criminal record for Criminal damage to a bus shelter when i was just 17. It actually wasnt me but the people i was with
It still shows on my an enhanced dbs 23 years later

I find it very strange that common assault can disappear but not something like very minor damage to a bus stop

MrsKeats · 30/07/2024 19:20

No problem.
Here is the government link.

It shouldn't do. When was the last time you had an enhanced check carried out?

dollopz · 30/07/2024 20:29

if it does show it wouldn’t put me off employing someone as it was clearly a long time ago in your teens

mitogoshi · 30/07/2024 20:39

I can see everything apart from minor driving offences on them. But I can choose to ignore the offence if I don't believe it's an issue for the position I'm hiring

mitogoshi · 30/07/2024 20:40

And yes abh would prevent you from getting a job with me as I can't risk it as it's children

ByCupidStunt · 30/07/2024 20:41

Honestly, it really does depend on how spiteful the police want to be.

It really really doesn't 😀

Part of my job used to be getting DBS checks done.

One person with a particularly unpleasant character even had a caution on her DBS for stealing a bra in tesco when she was 14. They didn't have to put that on there.

MyBlueRobin · 30/07/2024 20:48

I wasn't convicted of abh though

Were you convicted of common assault?

MyBlueRobin · 30/07/2024 20:49

Yes the original charge was abh then dropped to common assault

OP posts:
ByCupidStunt · 30/07/2024 20:50

We're talking about convictions here, not charges - charges are irrelevant.

MyBlueRobin · 30/07/2024 20:51

Ok I was charged with abh the court decided to charge me with common assault

OP posts:
LoudSnoringDog · 30/07/2024 20:55

Yes it's likely it's on there however it doesn't mean that you are automatically disregarded for the post. You would possibly have to prove a statement to a panel who would consider suitability for role

catin8oots · 30/07/2024 20:56

@ByCupidStunt

Is someone receives a police caution it is automatically recorded on the PNC.

A caution is an admission of guilt, offered by the police instead of a prosecution.

The DBS lifts information from the PNC, according to the level of check being carried out.

I work in criminal justice, specialising in criminal records.

Common assault is filterable as long as 11 years have passed and you did not receive either a suspended or custodial sentence. This is if you were over 18. 5.5 years if under 18

MyBlueRobin · 30/07/2024 21:01

I've read it filtered but not so sure now ☹️

ByCupidStunt · 30/07/2024 21:03

I know the difference between a caution and a conviction!

A conviction is a more serious charge than a caution so your post makes no sense in implying that cautions stay on longer than convictions do! And I never said the bra theft was a caution anyway.

Edited to say oh shit ignore the above I'm tired.

catin8oots · 30/07/2024 21:04

It's an automatic process you don't have to do anything. If you had an enhanced DBS check today it would not show up on there and you are under no obligation to disclose it.

You can tick the 'no' box on the scary question!

Make sure you declare it when you do your paperwork. Be open and honest and the majority of the time that is enough. It's what we look for at work - that a person admits what they have done and how they have moved on.
