Enhanced DBS

Hi all, has anyone here had an enhanced dbs check? In 1997 I was charged with abh but was lessened to common assault I received no prison sentence. Will this still show

Make sure you declare it when you do your paperwork. Be open and honest and the majority of the time that is enough. It's what we look for at work - that a person admits what they have done and how they have moved on.

I didn't declare it, because I thought it was spent

No!!! She doesn't have to. She's protected by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act!

DBS and Enhanced DBS checks are not the same thing.

The Enhanced DBS will shows cautions, convictions (including “spent” convictions) and reprimands, plus any other relevant information that the police holds on that person.

If the post you are applying for is working with vulnerable people, you should tick the box and give the relevant information in a sealed envelope. Having something show on the Enhanced DBS check in itself doesn’t prevent a person being employed, unless they are also on the relevant Barred List. The employer would carry out a risk assessment and that will determine whether or not the person can be employed.

Failure to disclose something which shows up on the check will almost certainly mean the person isn’t employable due to the lack of integrity demonstrated.
