Being called sexists

Just back from work trip, I'm the manager and two of my team. Our accomodation gets booked by separate department and due to the lack of spaces we got separated and put in two different places. I was asked for opinion when it was being booked and said 'just put the girls together'. Now one of the team commented on how this was sexists and they are not happy. I don't have time for all this drama. How would you react?

My thinking was very much that we're there to do the job and it doesn't matter where everyone stays. We've been out most day, between 6:30 and 18:00. So it's just a place to spend a night we need. Places we travel to are quite remote, no hotel chains so it's often a varied standard of accommodation which people are aware of. I was trying really hard to not put anyone in something of dubious standard.
The person complaining is early 30s if that matters but it's probably going to be called ageism now...

I thought so - I have seen issues with this 'age group' before. Not all but the males are more likely to be entitled to want things their way and don't like been out on their own as they think they are been ignored (honestly, I have worked with these types). I assume the other colleague is of a similar age, and possibly you are a bit older? If you had told travel to put the kids together he would have been OK with that.

@Guineasrule very true and it's probably all it was. It did feel like a drama about nothing. I have been in this job for nearly a decade with many work trips on various scenarios. This is a first so I was a bit shocked but also truly worried that I caused upset.
