MOJ Job offer

Foreverfrustrated97 · 19/04/2023 14:47

Hello!
I wondered if anyone had any advice please?

I have been offered a role in the MOJ as a probation services officer.
The thing is 3 weeks ago they contacted me asking for further details re address history and criminal record check and I have heard nothing since.

The thing is I would love this job and worry that a mistake I made when I was 17 (theft from employer) over 20 years ago now and no conviction only a reprimand will prevent me from getting this role?

I know it is enhanced level 2 checks but does anyone know if this will affect the offer and how long will it take to hear back?

TIA

I can't advise about your history but security checks can take weeks to come back and I understand there's something of a backlog currently. Why don't you request an update?

Foreverfrustrated97 · 19/04/2023 14:55

Thanks.

I have requested an update, once 2 weeks ago and once today. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas or if were in a similar situation

Hi, thank you for your reply.
Do you know if the reprimand when I was 17 will affect the offer at all please?

You can go to the police station and ask for a print out of what is on your record. I would be honest with the MOJ of what has happened in your past.
Did you get anything official when you were reprimanded?

GordonsAlive85 · 20/04/2023 16:01

Hi, it was such a long time ago it hopefully should not affect your offer (sorry I know that isn't helpful) I am back in work next week so will ask

GordonsAlive85 · 20/04/2023 16:03

Like a pp said, best to be open and transparent. Given your enthusiasm, we certainly need people with that in this line of work

Hi, thank you for your reply.

You need to be proactive and mention this upfront to the hiring manager - being open and transparent will reflect much better on you than leaving it to crop up in an enhanced DBS.

I know someone with this conviction, he doesn't work in probation but in a related role and it was fine. He was able to evidence that he has matured and learned from his experiences. That said, I imagine the bar for probation may be a bit higher due to the risk of corruption/ bribery etc - you really do need to talk this through with your new employer.

Best of luck to you, whatever happens.

Foreverfrustrated97 · 20/04/2023 16:22

Thanks. That's really reassuring.
I have had about 6 enhanced DBS's and it hasn't shown up. Also they came back asking about any dealings with the police and I told them that I did and that I hadn't mentioned it prior as believe it is protected so wouldn't necessarily show up.

It doesn't help when the general wait is so long!

Genuinely please don't worry. Mine took 3 months to come back for a basic check and I'm as squeaky clean as they come.

Summertime16 · 20/04/2023 16:27

I work in this industry and have a criminal record/prison sentence. I had to endure further checks and sporadic checks but I wouldn't stress about it especially if it hasn't shown up on an enhanced before.

Hi OP, I checked today and was told that as long as you have declared it, it is fine

Thanks so much for this. I didn't declare it initially as I believe it is protected and filtered but they asked if i had had any contact with my local force and then I disclosed and my reasons for not saying so in the first place.

Hi,
does anyone know how long it is taking to do the checks at all? I submitted the extra info on 30th March and heard nothing since?

Foreverfrustrated97 · 11/05/2023 14:30

Anyone at all? Been 6 weeks this week?

I don’t know how long it takes now, but I had an enhanced check years ago, which took 3 months in total, and I had nothing to declare, so maybe it will take a bit longer yet if it is still that slow.

Foreverfrustrated97 · 12/05/2023 19:23

So just had an update and all ok! Yay! Just waiting on formal contract and offer but all checks passed. Thanks everyone for all your help xx

I was about to say it is quite normal for it to take an age but I see you have got your checks back now, congratulations! I hope you love being a PSO.

Poppytoms · 15/05/2023 20:33

Have you heard anything yet from them? I received my provisional offer more than two weeks ago and was advised to upload rtw documents on idvt . Haven’t heard anything since then. On portal it just says “before we progress your application, we need to check your id and rtw documents”. Called them thrice and they say the same whats on portal and say they dont know how long it can take as there is no timescale for this. Are they usually this slow or am I some special case .

Poppytoms · 09/06/2023 11:16

@Foreverfrustrated97 hiya . Congratulations on passing your pre employment checks . I am still in my third week. How long did it take them to send you offer? Did they call and discussed about location preferences? When are you starting? My curiosity is increasing with each passing day 😁.

Foreverfrustrated97 · 09/06/2023 23:08

Hi! It took around 6-7 weeks from uploading all my docs to the email saying all ok and passed. I got an email couple of days after confirming the location after I had been offered the role as it is on the application which location you have chosen. And then couple of days after the checks passed for the vacancy manager to contact me herself and arrange start date etc. Its so exciting now!
