Job Interview and Terrified

SoAnxiouss · 20/02/2023 21:21

I have a job interview tomorrow and I’m absolutely terrified. I was asked if I’d like to interview just before the weekend and I don’t feel prepared at all.

Any tips?

Do you know the area that you're interviewing for? If so don't stress too much. Just stay calm, breathe and remind yourself they'd be lucky to have you.

Fwiw I take propranolol for anxiety attacks and was amazed how calm they kept me during a recent interview that I had. I suffer terribly with nerves but they seemed to totally alleviate the racing heart, sweats and shakes. I still felt nervous but the physical symptoms were so much better controlled. Probably a bit drastic if you're not someone who suffers with anxiety a lot however.

It’s my first adult job after a 6 year medical based degree. I just feel like I’m not prepared as I wasn’t planning to apply but a contact reached out to me.

I take propranolol for practical exams sometimes but I don’t have any I can get before the interview. I’m worried my nerves will mess it all up for me @lordofthepies22

My personal mantra is 'what's the worst that can happen?'
I've had numerous C-suite level job interviews, presentations, report drafting, boards, the works. It all boils down to a) under normal circumstances are you intellectually capable of doing the job, b) do they like you as a person. Are you personable? If you are reasonably sure of both then what's the worst that can happen?

Breathe deeply. Be YOU. Be honest.
Good luck!

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/02/2023 21:46

Some deep breathing - the square is good.

Think about what they want, and how you can solve their problems. If you focus on that you’ll do a good interview and probably feel calmer. And don’t undersell yourself.

Sprig1 · 20/02/2023 21:56

Remember that the only reason that you were invited to interview is because they thought you were great and can do the job. They want you to succeed.

Thank you!
I haven’t had time to prepare but enough time to worry about it!

Hope you got on ok today, OP

WandaWonder · 21/02/2023 11:09

I try and ask 3 questions

Training opportunities
How did the role come about

And I forget the 3rd, oh better worded than the above

soboredtonight · 21/02/2023 11:13

I've got one in 45 mins. Absolutely shitting myself as it's a step up.

soboredtonight · 21/02/2023 11:14

Good luck op I have my fingers crossed for you.

They already like you and think you can do it or they would t be interested in interviewing you.

That's what I'm saying to myself right now

soboredtonight · 21/02/2023 13:45

I did ok op. I answered all of the questions just hope the responses were the ones they were looking for.

Hope you did well x

SoAnxiouss · 21/02/2023 14:33

I hope you get it @soboredtonight
I really can’t tell how it went. I answered everything but I needed some prompting so I’m a bit worried about that.

I keep thinking of things I coud’ve said!!

When do you hear? I should hear within a week

OP posts:
TokyoSushi · 21/02/2023 14:36

Good luck everybody!

soboredtonight · 21/02/2023 14:36

I can't even remember what I said I tripped over my words a few times and I felt like I waffled a bit. They said next round of interviews are soon so I will hear at the beginning to mid next week if I get one.

Sone of my examples were a bit shit in my opinion it was all compentency based questions.

Fingers crossed for you.

It's done now we can relax Grin

SoAnxiouss · 21/02/2023 18:50

Mine was all clinical “how would you approach X case”.
I won’t relax until I know either way 😂

I've got a job interview tomorrow. I'm panicking a bit - it feels like there's so much they could ask me.

SoAnxiouss · 21/02/2023 20:17

Good luck @JobbieBobbie
is it an internal interview or a brand new company / role?

OP posts:
JobbieBobbie · 21/02/2023 21:05

Thanks @SoAnxiouss!

It's a new company to me, but it's very much the job I do now, so I should hopefully know what I'm talking about 😄.

It's definitely a push / pull thing - my current company is a bit rubbish at the moment, and the new company are likely to be more flexible about remote working, and might also pay me a bit more. I just want to give it a decent shot - I haven't interviewed for years, so I'm pleased I got a decent application together, and I'd really like to give a decent interview as well.

Luckydog7 · 21/02/2023 21:09

I know you have already had the interview OP but saw an interesting ted talk about using 'power posing' before events like interviews and it significantly increased performance and interview perception. will find the link.

JobbieBobbie · 22/02/2023 17:59

Eurgh, I had my job interview. It was OK, but it just seemed like lots of knowledge-based and clinical scenario-based questions, rather than personal attribute-based ones. And they had to prompt me a couple of times to get to some points they wanted. I don't think I feel very confident.

SoAnxiouss · 22/02/2023 22:38

I got the job, they let me know today :) Now just to decide if I want it!

I’m sure you did better than you think@JobbieBobbie

OP posts:
JobbieBobbie · 22/02/2023 22:56

Oh, congratulations @SoAnxiouss! That's great news. So, are you going to accept it? When will you start?

I noticed my union are offering an interview course - I might sign up 🙂.

SoAnxiouss · 23/02/2023 00:20

Not until towards the end of the year @JobbieBobbie
I still have to sit my finals to get my medicine/surgery degree. I think I will accept

OP posts:
JobbieBobbie · 23/02/2023 07:59

I see - good luck 🙂. And that's great news that you're happy to accept the offer.

changedforonenightonly · 27/02/2023 18:46

@SoAnxiouss did you hear anything yet? I haven't
