Best days for working a 3 day week?

Poppins2016 · 12/01/2023 16:45

I'm in the process of negotiating part time days for a new job...

If you work a 3 day week, which days do you take/prefer and why?

How do you feel it works out with bank holidays?

Tues-Thurs 4 day weekends!

Yes, become a TWaT! Grin

I went back to work last year, I originally was working mon Tues Friday due to company request. However I requested to swap to mon Tues wed as I felt I wasn't being as productive with the break in between. I much prefer mon Tues wed. My bank hols are adjusted for the Mondays but I have the option of working a different day that week to stop it altering my holidays but I don't bother tbh

Warspite · 12/01/2023 16:47

Tuesday to Thursday defo. Long weekends are great.

gfy · 12/01/2023 16:47

I liked working Monday-Wednesday.

No particular reason but felt like by Tuesday half my work week was gone and I always had long weekends esp when BH came about.

atteatimeeverybodyagrees · 12/01/2023 16:50

DO NOT CHOOSE MONDAY.

It screws your holidays up if you choose Monday.

Shampern · 12/01/2023 16:51

Mondays - Wednesdays gets if off my hands to enjoy the rest of the week.

thistimelastweek · 12/01/2023 16:52

Wednesday to Fridays.

You don't get Sunday night blues.
St work everyone is in a good mood on Fridays and you don't get meetings that overrun.
You aren't expected to use your Friday off to do all the housework for the weekend.

GroggyLegs · 12/01/2023 16:53

If you work a Monday, you'll be shafted on bank holidays as you'll be credited 3/5 of the day, but have to give back a whole day of leave.

My work gives 25 days + bank holidays, so pro rata I get 20 days leave to take whenever I like. The only BH I have to give back are if Xmas/boxing day or new year fall on my working days.

I have done tue-thu for 8 years and it's amazing. I love my Mondays after the crazy weekend. I'm going to 4 days soon and will be asking to work Tue - Friday to avoid Monday shafting.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/01/2023 16:54

Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Double pay for bank holidays and I keep my holiday quota. My weekdays are free for appointments etc which are either impossible to get at weekends and places are quieter to visit. We have no kids.

ItisallPooh · 12/01/2023 16:57

I actually liked Monday, Tuesday Friday. I effective started my week on a Friday and rolled on through to Tuesday. I got two weekends and all bank holidays too.
Friday was a bit of a more relaxed day at work so I didn't have any FOMO!
There were also lots of baby groups on Wednesday and Thursday that I got to take my kids too when they were little.

VariationsonaTheme · 12/01/2023 16:58

I used to work Mon Tues Thursday. Two days and then a little midweek break before one more day and a three day weekend. The Wednesday meant I could catch my breath.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 12/01/2023 17:00

I don't, but dream of it.

Any days but Monday. Most bank holidays fall on a Monday so if it is a day you don't work, you'll get those hours added on to your selectable holiday allowance.

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 12/01/2023 17:02

I don't Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
I like being in on Mondays as there is always fall out from the weekend and I feel a bit more energised towards the beginning of the week. Plus if it's a bank holiday Monday then all the better.
I love my Wednesdays off as it's a break mid week.
And I like the Fridays off for a long weekend.

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 12/01/2023 17:04

Bank holiday Monday better for me as if I work it I get double time (I shed to take leave for it if I don't or I can swap to one of my days off so I don't lose anything)

maddy68 · 12/01/2023 17:04

Tue wed thirs

watchfulwishes · 12/01/2023 17:06

I have twice had a 3-day week, once I did Mon, Tues, Weds and once I did Mon, Tues, Thurs. I liked the split week as I never got bogged down in work before having a day off. TBH, there is really no bad 3-day pattern as it is such a short amount of work time it always feels manageable!

MagpiePi · 12/01/2023 17:06

This .

I worked Mon - Thursday for ages then a colleague told me about the holiday thing (I thought I got extra to cover BHs 🙄)
When I changed to Tues- thurs and didn’t have to use 6 days of leave ie, I got 2 weeks extra holiday.

Also, I still relish that Sunday night feeling if not having to go to work on Monday.

Heyahun · 12/01/2023 17:08

I do Monday weds Friday

i like never having to go in 2 days in a row

and on bank holidays you get 4 days off in a row which is nice

Poppins2016 · 12/01/2023 17:11

Thanks, this is really helpful, especially the point about Mondays!

FortyFacedFuckers · 12/01/2023 17:12

Tue-Thursday
Or Wed to Friday I enjoyed working a Friday as it was always a nicer atmosphere!

ivegotthisyeah · 12/01/2023 17:12

Wed-Fri because of the bank holidays!

Delectable · 12/01/2023 22:50

Can someone breakdown the implication of including Mondays in the days worked? I assumed as it's bank holiday for everyone who works on Mondays it's bank holiday even for part timers and shouldn't result in a loss in their pro-rata leave or pay.

HerRoyalNotness · 12/01/2023 22:55

TWaT purely for the acronym

dudsville · 12/01/2023 22:59

I agree with front loading. Psychologically, if you do midweek you're still likely to feel that monday feeling, so get it over with. However, if your team has all it's meetings at the start of the week, like mine, then if you veg go for the working part of the week when you can actually get stuff done.
