Best days for working a 3 day week?

I'm in the process of negotiating part time days for a new job...

If you work a 3 day week, which days do you take/prefer and why?

How do you feel it works out with bank holidays?

When the kids were tiny I used to do Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. I was in the mood to do stuff with the kids Mondays and Tuesdays and go to baby groups and swimming and things. Fridays were a nice relaxed day to work.

Mon-Wed for me, I don’t mind about the bank holiday thing at all (ours is done correctly pro-rata through payroll) and love finishing for the week on Wed. Also I like the Monday morning catchup with everyone, what they’ve been doing at the weekend etc (I don’t WFH). I also feel more organised starting work the same day as everyone else, I always felt I was playing catch-up with emails etc when I worked Tue/Wed/Thur, Mondays are always a slower start, no meetings etc, whereas Tue/Wed/Thur you have to hit the ground running a bit more.

I work Tues Weds Thurs and love it. I'm thinking of going to 4 days in the future and I'll add a Friday, I do quite miss the Friday feeling and I wouldn't work Mondays as I like that I get extra days to book when i want for the BHs!

Not sure if this applies to you but another reason not to work Mondays: if you have kids at nursery they still charge you but are closed for the day.

Sorry, I mean on bank hols obviously

Problems with leave if you work Mondays depend entirely on your employer so check your employer's policy.

Where I work, anybody part time is required to work 80% of their hours on a bank holiday week (just as a full timer does), regardless of the day or hours they work. This way everybody gets the benefit of bank holidays fairly.
