Civil service EO Home Office

Hi,

I applied and interviewed for a job within the Civil Service at the start of November.
Checked the portal on the off chance yesterday and it’s updated from ‘interview slot booked’ to ‘application being reviewed’ with my interview scores now available.
Any idea how long it takes to get a yes/no from that point?
Scored a 4 and two 5’s on the behaviour questions and three 4’s on the strength questions.

Ignore largergighs, I've seen plenty (most) people get in on 4s/5s I've never given a 7 in my life and very rarely give 6s either. It's not the "uniform" process across the sector some people think it is! How can it be with hundreds of thousands of people, so long as it is being done consistently within a campaign is all that matters.

Hope you hear soon, large campaigns are the slowest.

So I’ve logged in today and my interview scores have disappeared with the status now going from ‘application being reviewed’ to ‘awaiting interview results.’ What is going on 😂

Oh that's strange. Is it a job you really want? Good luck! I've applied to some cs jobs too but waiting to hear back regarding interviews.

savethewales · 05/01/2023 09:13

It is a job I really want, just still waiting! Good luck for interview success :)

Hi @savethewales, I also applied and interviewed for the EO job, although my interview was only in December so am assuming I won't hear anything for a while yet.
I also interviewed for the AO Home Office campaign in November and am yet to get a response for that either.

I share your frustration, I just want to know whether I've been successful for either role and whether I need to keep job hunting!

savethewales · 06/01/2023 20:50

@booklist good luck! I feel the same, I interviewed two months ago and my portal changed between Xmas and new year to say ‘reviewing applications and you should hear soon.’ I think my definition of soon might be different to there’s.

Feel like my life is on hold and can’t help wonder how many good staff they potentially lose due to the time it takes!

It's bloody awful, it's a wonder how the CS manage to attract anyone with their recruitment process.

savethewales · 09/01/2023 14:12

Further email saying there’s no update, don’t contact them it’ll update when it updates…

OP posts:
booklist · 09/01/2023 20:15

Yes I got that email too - frustrating but good to hear something at least!

savethewales · 14/01/2023 17:09

Did you get your results @booklist

OP posts:
lillysmom · 15/01/2023 10:50

Hiya,
Like you, I had 4s and 5s.

This was my timeline:
applied on Aug 21
interviewed on Sept 21
reserve list since Oct 21
conditional offer on Jan 22
vetting started on Mar 22
vetting was completed on May 22
started on Jul 22

nc8975 · 15/01/2023 10:55

@lillysmom how on Earth are they managing to hire with a timeline like that?!

lillysmom · 15/01/2023 11:02

well the security checks are important. Different depts and different jobs need different levels of security clearance.
In another dept, I interviewed at the beginning of Nov, got the job 1 week later (had all 6s and a couple of 7s), started the checks in Dec, and commenced on 24 jan. However, it was a fixed term contract and - as I said - a different dep requiring fewer background checks.

nc8975 · 15/01/2023 11:04

I'm aware as I'm in the CS myself, but that timeline is appalling and security checks account for a small part of it.

savethewales · 15/01/2023 12:16

So everyone who has applied for this post seems to have been waitlisted while they score the next tranche of interviews.
i can’t understand the delay, they could have waitlisted everyone ages ago. Utterly crackers.

OP posts:
Ilikewinter · 15/01/2023 12:32

Wow thats shit. Its crackers because the department you've applied for will be crying out for people to start. 30 were hired in my group and we started in groups of 6, 1 per month.....our grade 7 was desperate for us all to start!

It’s a nightmare.
DD was offered a post last spring. Numerous clearances later still no start date. At least now she has a case officer

booklist · 15/01/2023 21:24

Hi @savethewales, no I haven't received any further emails and just checked my portal and it's still only showing me my personal statement scores.

Have you heard anything more?

savethewales · 15/01/2023 21:29

@booklist had an email saying I’d been waitlisted as have a lot of people. When did you interview again? Might be in a later tranche.

OP posts:
YorkshireIndie · 15/01/2023 21:39

Wait listed just means that you have passed and they will be finding you a role. Depends on the department and what job role you applied for (vacancies have to match at least 80% with the role you applied for) before you are placed combined with score and where you ranked. I would say that as an EO you will be found a role. My last department were crying out for EOs

savethewales · 15/01/2023 22:14

The job application was for 900 jobs in a range of departments in the home office, so they seem to be waitlisting those who interviewed first im guessing while they score the rest and then assign roles?
It’s ridiculous really the time it’s taking!

OP posts:
nc8975 · 15/01/2023 22:21

@savethewales oh if it's HO I think I've heard about this, they're looking into how to onboard asap.

mintdaisy · 17/01/2023 10:35

I hope you find out good news soon op. Seems a crazy way to recruit but I guess if they need 900 people it's easier for them to do it this way. I bet they lose a lot of good candidates though who get new jobs or get sick of the waiting.

booklist · 17/01/2023 11:20

savethewales · 15/01/2023 21:29

That's great news, hope you hear something more definite soon!

Yes I only interviewed for the EO role in late December so will likely have longer to wait. I also interviewed for the AO Home Office role in November and yesterday got an email with a provisional offer for that position. I have accepted but still hoping I get offered the EO one as it's a higher pay grade. Either way happy to have been successful!
