Civil service EO Home Office

Hi,

I applied and interviewed for a job within the Civil Service at the start of November.
Checked the portal on the off chance yesterday and it’s updated from ‘interview slot booked’ to ‘application being reviewed’ with my interview scores now available.
Any idea how long it takes to get a yes/no from that point?
Scored a 4 and two 5’s on the behaviour questions and three 4’s on the strength questions.

Wishing you all the best of luck. Sounds to me that the recruitment process management requires some specific Strengths and Behaviours!

I'm now retired from quite a Senior Role. I started at the lowest grade available at the time. Work hard and you can reach the top too.

Having a bit of a nostalgia moment here....

@PillBoxes like, "seeing the big picture" for example, and "communicating and influencing" lol

I waited 9 months from application (exam was relatively quick but long wait to results and call for interview and then months before assignment) for EO back in the day more than 20 years ago, when there were a lot of vacancies to be filled. These panels always take a long time.

I am currently waiting for an EO to be given to me for a panel - since November. They were already overdue then, but have only started to be appointed to Departments in the past 3 weeks or so (am in Ireland so different competition to yours but similar process and system).

Good luck with the rest of the process.

Hi @BiddyPop thanks for your cheering message. Are you in NICS or in the civil service in Ireland (sorry I can’t work out how to say that diplomatically from a political sense but what I mean is ‘which administration’) as I would love to apply for NICS too but they only ever seem to have very technical jobs advertised?

I'm ROI rather than NI sorry.

I heard back from them today for the home office EO position, Met the standard but being placed on reserve list :(. I'm trying to make sense out of the interview scores. I know that the behaviors are marked out of 7 but for the strengths, I've just been given a score. Can anyone tell me what the score is out of? Is it different between each campaign? Thanks

I have also heard back today that I've been put on a reserve list. Frustrating! I wonder we're likely to be offered a position any time soon.

I think the strengths are marked out of 4 and you need to score 2 in each of them to pass the interview.

Strengths are out of 4 and behaviours are out of 7.

which location are you hoping for? Welcome to the reserve list, I’m starting to wonder if there’s jobs in a lot of the places they advertised for!

I sat final video interview in December and have just heard back that I was successful today.

I had given up to be honest and accepted another job.

Not sure what to do now.

I hate the long hours in my new job, get in for 8.30 and end up staying until 6/6.30. On 9K more but realistically working 50+ hours a week - also currently working with broken ribs as I had 4 days working from home with covid a few weeks ago and they are not good at people being off work or working from home.

I'm not holding my breath to be honest. It seems a bit disorganised and even if they got back to me I'd have to wait a few months for the security clearance check.

Congratulations all to who received offers. I see many roles are "Flexi" and part time. I wonder whether they do hours suitable for parents who want to work during school hours. Can anybody help?

unfortunately this is typical for the civil service especially with mass recruitment. I once got an offer 6 months after my interview when i had already settled into another job. I wasn't even waitlisted. just took that long to review everything. It's stupid cos you lose the best people as they find something else in the meantime but that's the CS for you

Report
namejump · 08/03/2023 16:51

It's much easier when you are applying for single roles and once you're in (especially if you have clearance) I'm transferring now and it's only taking a few weeks. So it's worth the pain to get in but yes I dread to think how many people we lose!!

lillysmom · 08/03/2023 17:30

@Tinglelimpa don't worry. There are plenty of DMs going into other roles, especially after the last announcement

Is anybody able to advise what the core working hours are for an EO role in customer service at the Home Office? And are customer service roles 100% office based or is there scope to work from home on some days?

It’s hybrid supposedly, 60% home and 40% Office.
I mean that depends on if they ever come back about jobs!

For anyone looking for advice on interview technique, a chap called Jac Williams has done a series of YouTube videos about how to answer the different types of question. Would highly recommend.

Just came across this thread...I applied through the same campaign and was offered a provisional job offer towards the end of January. I imagine location plays a role as to whether there are jobs available immediately? So I got lucky there.

The security vetting was done a lot quicker than I expected, and I have a start date. But I'm not sure the team I've been offered a job in are going to be able to accomodate the working pattern I want. Frustrating the way they do it, as I did ask them about it when I was first offered the job, but was told they couldn't discuss working patterns until a start date was offered. Crazy way of doing it really, because they might now have wasted all that time and money on vetting, etc. for nothing.

Good luck to those waiting. Hope you get a job offer soon.

How long did your security vetting take? And what was involved for it? Did you have to provide any additional information?

@booklist it took just over 3 weeks! I was very surprised it was so quick.

It was an online list of questions, just about stuff you would expect - previous addresses, names, etc. The most in depth it got was it asked for parents' names/nationalities. It wasn't as in depth as I was expecting, to be honest.

I have my own business, so I was asked some follow up questions about that via email to ensure no conflict of interest, etc. otherwise, no additional information was asked for.

@WineWithAView thanks so much that's really helpful. Great that it was so quick to come through for you!

I was provisionally offered an AO Home Office job in the middle of January (and found out yesterday I am also on reserve list for EO campaign) and pre-employment checks are ongoing. I was told in my ID verification meeting that I'd receive an email with a form to complete for the security vetting. However that was over six weeks ago and I still haven't received a form. So am wondering if I should contact them and chase it up? As presumably it will take at least another 3 weeks after I receive the form, based on your case...
