Feeling disheartened

I have applied for 12 jobs in the past 2 weeks, all of which every time I apply say “over 100 applicants” “over 80 applicants” etc.

I have been turned down from them all, I’m really at a loss and I know it’s just the times we are currently in but I feel like I’m never going to get a job and I’m starting to worry, last month I applied for several cleaning jobs only one got back in touch and said I was over qualified.

At this current moment in time I will do anything. DS is in nursery one morning a week now so I can apply for jobs/go for an interview if I get one but I’m just getting so fed up with constantly being turned down from everything I apply for. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do? I have had my CV looked over by someone who does them professionally they say it’s a good CV and think it’s just the amount of option employers are getting he also said he thinks employers will be getting that many they won’t be looking through them all! Not sure if I just want to moan or if I want advice on what I can do! Blush

Any news yet @tmh88?

I'm hoping to re-enter the world of employment in September, after 5 years as a SAHM... not sure I could have found a worse time to try!! I was planning to do a college course to become a TA, 2 days per week (school hours) plus 1 day in a school; of course, I can't do the school experience now as the ones I contacted have said it's too much hassle logistically with 'bubbles', and I don't want to pay out nearly £1000 for a course in case one or both of the DC have to self isolate at home and I can't go for a while. Aaarrrgghhh! As a PP suggested, I'm looking at bank/ agency work - I'm not keen on care work but there are tons of opportunities near us. Would that be an option for you?

tmh88 · 24/08/2020 22:13

@RubySlippers77 I have seen quite a lot of schools around me advertising for unqualified TAs (Sheffield) if you are near, bank/agency would be my last resort as I have to give fixed hours to nursery for DS age 2 and I don’t want to risk clashing with DP work as he’s the only one with a safe job out of us at the minute! I’m not going to lie it’s not been easy at all at the minute I must of applied for 30/40+ jobs now!

Morning @tmh88 not heard anything yet, have you?

tmh88 · 25/08/2020 14:27

@glotterbug I did get an email last night, offering me the job i'm in (was getting made redundant) back half a day a week from December. I really don't know what to do at all now! feel like if I take that at least I can keep looking for something else and won't have a large gap in my CV.

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 26/08/2020 21:59

Ah thanks @tmh88, we are Home Counties and sadly no schools near me seem to want anyone... I've even tried going through the local volunteer centre, nothing!

Are there any supermarkets/ smaller food shops near you advertising for staff? Or Royal Mail depots, they are building up their staff for the run up to Christmas? Those are all options near me but the shift patterns are no use as I don't have any childcare Sad

glotterbug · 27/08/2020 16:25

Any news @tmh88 . I will know tomorrow apparently???? Also had another interview today for a totally different role in a totally different industry and I actually really fancy it! Best of luck everyone

tmh88 · 27/08/2020 16:29

@glotterbug no nothing yet! I have been offered to go back half a day week rather than being made redundant but I don’t know whether to accept yet! Not had a phone call yet! Hope you hear something tomorrow! Watch you’ll get both and won’t know which one to take haha! @RubySlippers77 I haven’t seen any advertised but I might ring to be honest worst they can say is no! Let me know how you get on! Flowers

Thanks @tmh88 . I know the Royal Mail are looking for sorters if you're in the south west? Would redundancy pay more that the one day a week back a work? I wouldn't worry too much about a break in work on your cv, there are so many people in our situation! Best of luck

tmh88 · 27/08/2020 17:04

I’m in Sheffield @glotterbug short term redundancy would be better but long term probably the 1 day a week depend on how long it takes me to find a job Blush really hope everything goes well for you tomorrow! 🤞🏻

That's great, will have all things crossed for you. I got a call last night from an interview I did yesterday morning offering me the job! I actually jumped up and down with joy! It's a totally different job for me out of my comfort zone but I have decided I'm gonna go for it, it's time for a change. Waiting on my acceptance letter before I cancel future interviews.

tmh88 · 28/08/2020 10:26

@glotterbug I bet you did!! Well done! I hope it all goes really well! Will be nice for a change too! Good luck! Flowers

Really hope things start to work out for everyone. Had two interviews this week rejected for both. The first one, I was beaten by just one point!! They did give me great fb, though. The second one, I really wanted and the interviewers really made it seem like I was going to be successful. When they called me, their tone of voice and everything they said made it appear they were going to give me an offer... then they told me I was unsuccessful 😭

The next day though, I got an email from a previous unsuccessful interview to say the position was available again and would I like to be considered. Going for a chat this afternoon.

Good luck to everyone.

glotterbug · 29/08/2020 09:41

Best of luck @Moonpixie !

tmh88 · 30/08/2020 07:07

Me too @Moonpixie good luck!

Still haven’t had a phone call I’m wondering whether to ring them tomorrow myself on the number they phoned me on.

OP posts:
glotterbug · 30/08/2020 07:33

Morning.
I would give them a call tomorrow. It could be something simple like the person due to call you has been on holiday, but it's horrible waiting all this time with nothing.
Call them!

Moonpixie · 31/08/2020 08:51

It's such pain being left hanging waiting for calls. These kind of things always seem to hit a weekend or Bank Holiday, too.

I had a bit of a disaster. I was offered that job, accepted it, then immediately regretted it! Had loads of angst over the weekend and finally left them a msg on their answerphone yesterday. Can't believe finally got offered something and I'm turning it down.

Worst of all, I had another interview booked for this Wed and a further application in the process, and I stupidly went ahead and cancelled them both after accepting this job. I won't be able to get in touch with recruitment until tomorrow to see if I can get them back in the system.

tmh88 · 01/09/2020 16:37

@glotterbug @Moonpixie tried ringing yesterday and today! No answer unfortunately! Just been turned down from another job too Blush

OP posts:
glotterbug · 02/09/2020 06:14

Oh no @tmh88 & @Moonpixie that sounds like a shit time. I hope you managed to get in touch with the recruiter @Moonpixie and you're back in the system. @tmh88 that's so shit, not even an answer?
I'm now on third day of my new job. My head is fit to burst with so much information and it's a world away from my experience but loving the buzz so far.

tmh88 · 02/09/2020 07:02

@glotterbug no not even an answer! It was a mobile number so I’m feeling like a pest now!Envy really glad everything is going well in your new job! I’m lucky I still have my option of half a day a week to fall back on and hope work there might pick back up but I’m still looking and applying ha!
