Being a scentsy consultant?

Talkthirtytome · 25/10/2019 18:37

I'm thinking about becoming a scentsy consultant. I've read up about mlms and I'm not expecting to make a living from it but i don't want to lose money either. Just want some opinions really!

@alkaseltz that's not the same as a pyramid scheme.

elliescents · 28/10/2019 08:55

Again, we don't buy stock. I don't hound people for sales, and I don't do the 'boss babe' or 'living my best life' posts. That's not me.

AlkaSeltz · 28/10/2019 09:01

@Bellasblankexpression

That was literally the entire point of my post.

Whooooosh

AlkaSeltz · 28/10/2019 09:02

@Bellasblankexpression

I mean, how did you manage to miss this bit?

AlkaSeltz

"Siri, show me someone who doesn't understand what a pyramid scheme is."

???

@LivingDeadGirlUK there are hundreds of overpriced items in the shops, adverts on TV promoting them etc. I work in a professional job part time since having my twins (was full time before), I'm not naive and I have plenty of morals. I don't promote any of the products I don't rate myself because not all of them are my cup of tea. If someone asks about a product, I give my honest opinion about it. I dont push sales on anyone and don't do it to recruit anyone or make hundreds of pounds, I do it because I like the products and enjoy it. Its more of a hobby than a business for me. Most of my customers are family, friends and work colleagues who have tried the products before they buy them and love them. Most of my customers approach me to place orders not the other way round. I would never do the likes of juiceplus or Younique because it's not something I would ever use myself. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on what they think and it's fine if that's yours. I just enjoy doing what I do without having to tout for business

Xiaoxiong · 28/10/2019 09:24

@elliescents out of interest who are the people who order through your website? And did you really not have to buy anything as a starter kit?

elliescents · 28/10/2019 09:25

@Liseg2005 I don't see how selling a product we love and other people love is immoral. If people don't like the price they don't buy it! Ive been told by someone they would love it but it's not something they can afford. That's ok! I see lots of things I love and can't afford, so I don't buy it. I am still making sales in my private Facebook group which nobody needs to be in if they don't want to be there. No blocking or unfollowing needed. If you do it right it's not intrusive to those that don't want it and you don't need to turn 'weird'

tornmum1 · 28/10/2019 09:27

If any of you have the reddit app or site, please check out r/antiMLM , it's full of MLM consultants preying on old highschool friends and vulnerable people (those with children dying, loss of their only source of income, ect.)

elliescents · 28/10/2019 09:30

@Xiaoxiong I did buy a starter kit, it's stock I don't have to buy. I get random online orders sometimes, if someone orders through Scentsy .com and I'm their closest consultant it will be added to my account and shipped directly to them, I also get online orders through my website if there is a flash sale or someone's having a party and friends aren't able to attend on the night, plus sometimes my customers just go straight to my site link on my group and order if I'm not placing one in the next few days and they don't want to wait

elliescents · 28/10/2019 09:31

@tornmum1 then these people need to be stopped! This is not my experience of MLM, it's not all the same!

Liseg2005 · 28/10/2019 09:33

@elliescents exactly. I don't prey anyone, I dont false advertise and I don't push sales. If people want to buy it they can, if they don't then fine

nmc99 · 28/10/2019 10:02

I've never heard of scentsy off to google!

homeworkery · 28/10/2019 11:11

You both aren't getting it. At all. You are exactly the type of people MLM pyramid schemes love

elliescents · 28/10/2019 11:47

A pyramid scheme relies on someone giving over money and then getting others to give over money to them and so on. At some point the pyramid stops and lots of people along the bottom lose their money with the top person gaining the most.

This isn't the same. I bought a starter kit, I wanted the products in that kit, my sponsor earns nothing from this. If you don't like the product don't buy the kit to join, simple. I don't have to then get more people to sign up to make money. I sell a product. If I found I couldn't sell anything then I can just walk away without paying anything else and I've still got my kit products. I'm not hurting anyone. I don't have a team of people I've signed up, that's not why I joined, I don't need to do it. I'm still earning money every month and I've not lost anything. There's nothing I can say to convince you so that's it from me. Enjoy the rest of your day ladies x

Veterinari · 28/10/2019 12:51

Can one of the consultants actually tell us what you earn and how many hours you spend doing it?

Liseg2005 · 28/10/2019 13:15

@veterinari every month is different but on average I get about £150-£200 a month but that's because I'm not pushing sales or recruits. This is just what I get doing it as a bit of a hobby. I mainly started doing it for the free credit to save me buying Scentsy as I already bought it for myself. Hours vary. Some days I don't spend any hours, then I could spend a couple of hours one night on it, just depends.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/10/2019 13:18

@elliescents you really don't get it do you? Just because you are not recruiting doesn't mean its not a pyramid schene. You are obviously making very little if anything as you keep swearving that question. You work for a company that is making a huge profit yet 99% of the people who work for it make nothing. Why are you ok with that?

sniffingthewax · 28/10/2019 13:45

I didn't even know Scentsy was still a thing here! A Facebook friend has become a trailing spouse and is now a boss babe for Scentsy, my God some of the stuff is so ugly. She was trying to flog a unicorn warmer thing for £80, it was hideous. Why anyone would want a lifetime guarantee on that is beyond me.

elliescents · 28/10/2019 13:50

I'm not swearving the question, I make money, why would I want to tell a group of people tearing me to shreds what I earn? I've already said it varies and I'm not worried about making lots of money at it. What do you consider to be very little? Because to me it's probably a lot.

elliescents · 28/10/2019 13:56

If they make nothing from it then why are they still doing it? I don't understand that! Who's telling you they don't make anything? If they aren't making money then they aren't selling anything, if they aren't selling anything then their account would be closed. If they are losing money to keep it open, why? Nobody's making anyone do that.

OtraCosaMariposa · 28/10/2019 14:20

If they make nothing from it then why are they still doing it?

Because they are convinced that if the business model isn't working for them it's not because the business model is rotten to the core, it's because there's something wrong with them. They're not trying hard enough. Or speaking to enough people. Or making enough posts. Maybe next month, or in a few months they'll make their fortune. Then by the time the scales fall from their eyes they are several hundred pounds in the hole by placing orders themselves to keep their status in the hope the big money is just around the corner.

Who's telling you they don't make anything?

Well if you dig into to Scentsy's own income disclosure statements, or indeed any disclosure statement for any MLM, you'll see it there in black and white.

Hideous, horrible business model which means a few people at the top (usually in Utah) getting extremely rich, and vulnerable women being conned into handing over cash with the promise of making their fortune or "running their own business" from home. Evil and should be banned.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/10/2019 14:21

@elliescents do you make minimum wage after all your expensis?

You really need to educate yourself on pyramid selling. Its not your sales that are making the company money its the stream of people signing up for the starter kit. Any sales are a bonus but it doesn't matter to the company if you sell or not they have made a profit out of you. Just do a bit of research and you will see all pyramid schemes are the same in terms of percentage that make money.

Liseg2005 · 28/10/2019 14:45

@elliescents I think you're fighting a losing battle. I work part time in a professional job, look after my 5 year old twins and do this as something for me that I enjoy and that I make a bit of pocket money on. I don't care what the people higher up the "pyramid" are making, all I know is that I make a little bit of pocket money and get free Scentsy products and that's all I want from it.

OtraCosaMariposa · 28/10/2019 15:01

I don't care what the people higher up the "pyramid" are making,

And you obviously don't care that women are being lied to, told it's easy to make a decent wage selling this stuff and nearly everyone loses money either.

You two and your "I'm just in it for the pocket money and love the product" line legitimises the whole scamtastic scam.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/10/2019 15:06

Ok well there we go you have no morals, at least you have admitted it now.
