Being a scentsy consultant?

Talkthirtytome · 25/10/2019 18:37

I'm thinking about becoming a scentsy consultant. I've read up about mlms and I'm not expecting to make a living from it but i don't want to lose money either. Just want some opinions really!

I used to love sniffing the wax in my misspent youth.

AzraiL · 27/10/2019 07:34

It's not your own business.

elliescents · 27/10/2019 07:38

Yep it is a funny line I'll give you that! Always gets a giggle. I know I won't convince you of this but I'm not brainwashed. I don't feel pressured and I enjoying what I do without losing money or friends. Enjoy your day ladies.

AndAnon · 27/10/2019 07:38

I know somebody who does it and obviously loves her Scenty life and Scentsy Sisters. On the face of it you’d think she has a small successful business allowing her to spend time with her children. In reality she won the lottery and it’s a cover story (they told everyone they got an inheritance but her husbands brother has told pretty much everyone the truth!).

If you are doing it for fun and something to do then go ahead, it’s harmless and while I don’t like the products quite a few people do. If you need to make money please consider a rethink. The MLM are not the best ways to earn a genuine living, and the ones you see as very successful are most likely not - hence sharing the above.

Ah the "don't bash Mums" defence. Better tell people to lay off Margaret Thatcher and Rose West, because they had kids.

Surfskatefamily · 27/10/2019 07:41

My sil is a scentsy consultant and she doesn't make much really. But she likes buying the products so she hits the minimum target monthly to get the half price item and scentsy credits.
I personally love the warmers wax and buddy's. I just wait for flash sales or buy clearance eo it's not that bad.
I wouldn't go into it expecting to make money

atlanticblueandgreen · 27/10/2019 07:43

Scentsy is a load of shit, and I hate MLMS, I mean, really hate them, but Rose West??? Shock

Celebelly · 27/10/2019 07:45

sniffing the wax

GrinGrinGrinGrin Wax melts: the mothers' drug of choice

TheFatberg · 27/10/2019 07:52

@atlanticblueandgreen it's an extreme example, yes, but mothers are deemed untouchable by MLM sellers. It's such a weak argument to say that we should support them (aka give them money and don't point out it's a pyramid scheme) just because they've had kids.

camelfinger · 27/10/2019 07:55

I hate how women get sucked into this shit, both in terms of “running their own business” by forking out £85, and being pestered in the name of “supporting their friends”. Men just get to go to work, get paid and spend it on whatever they want.

atlanticblueandgreen · 27/10/2019 08:00

Absolutely and I understand the point, that mothers aren’t above criticism - I suppose I’m just a bit uncomfortable with the comparison being someone who tortured and murdered young women!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 27/10/2019 08:01

Scentsy is overpriced tatt

homeworkery · 27/10/2019 08:13

Ellie you're brainwashed. That's why you don't realise it. And scentsy is a pyramid scheme. It's not "like" a pyramid scheme, is is one.

The other Mums are being polite to you sniffing your wax and are glad to get away at the end of it. They aren't obsessed with wax, think the smell is meh and find your Facebook living my best life posts cringey at best. Please, wake up and sniff the wax

aggitatedstate · 27/10/2019 08:53

MLM, Mormon recruiting tactics.

There's a really good BBC podcast called The Cryptoqueen which is about a MLM selling cryptocurrency. Explains very well what MLM is all about.

Also another one called Inside Nxivm.

And an American podcast called The Dream which is all about why women get sucked into these things in the first place.

I signed up in May this year and I joined off my own back. I actually contacted a consultant. I work part time and also do this. I do make money from it but not a fortune, but I do it as I enjoy it and I love the products. Yes people think some of the products are expensive, so did I until I used them and found out a bit more about it including the lifetime guarantee. I never advertise to recruit and you only get commission off any recruits if they do really well also. I have had two people sign up under me and I never asked either of them to. I don't post anything on my personal Facebook page, I have a separate page for Scentsy so if people choose to leave they can. I have built up a really good customer base over the time I have been doing it. I'm not doing it to earn a fortune, I'm doing it to earn a little bit extra on top of what I already earn and because I do actually enjoy it. Also the rewards are really good and I think one of the best for this type of thing

CatToddlerUprising · 27/10/2019 18:47

Liseg2005- how much do you make a month after taking out your self employed tax reductions?

Loopytiles · 27/10/2019 18:50

MLM: avoid!

Liseg2005 · 27/10/2019 20:07

Its only my first year and only been doing it since end of May, so I haven't done a tax return yet, but it won't be much tax I pay as I don't earn a lot on my part time job I already do. Commission wise I don't earn a fortune but enough that makes it worthwhile for a bit of extra pocket money and I also bought Scentsy before I became a consultant so I do it for the credit I earn and half price products as well

Dani19922109 · 27/10/2019 21:43

I completely agree with elliescents, I signed up a few months ago and absolutely love it! I just have a Facebook group and people that want to be there are in there, I do not push it, I plays games in it, run competitions and people that want to try it or buy it do!! I do not regret my choice at all, currently on mat leave and it just gives me a little extra to go out and do things with my little ones! As well as boost my confidence abit 😁 I love that the warmers nd waxmelts are completely safe around my little 1s I can leave them on, have an amazing smelling house and not worry its gou g to burn down or burn my kids!! If it's not for you then so be it bit no need to slate something you don't know much about. End of day everything is pyramid sales!!! I also work in a supermarket and not being funny bt u can class that as pyramid, I work my ass of there for 1 wage then you have the higher up managers and directors that have a great wage then get a massive bonus also while were getting our bonuses paid breaks ect nd staffing cut! So don't just slate home buisness that make a family some money when it can actually class for everything! I also know members on my team higher up that are bed bound ect for health reasons nd can fully work the scentsy buisness as can do it from there bed...... how many jobs can you do that from?????

AlkaSeltz · 27/10/2019 22:21

The "corporate pyramid"- Money in a corporation goes in every direction. MLM money only goes up. Plus the drawing we always see is an organizational chart.

Karmin · 27/10/2019 22:26

I'm a business owner- what's your business license number? You an llc, dba, sp? You get to source your product? Do promotions? Set pricing? You're a sales rep. A sales rep who pays for the product, which no actual sales rep does. So you're a flipper.

Karmin · 27/10/2019 22:27

You're all haters- yep, and you're perpetuating a scam that preys on idiots, lazy people looking for a shortcut, or naive people. Which one are you?
