Do tou have to be a lentil weaver to become a doula?

I have started my course and I am worried I am not enough of a earth mother to do this.

Muminfife, no childcare and no money :-( Dp can't take a day off work for me to "gad about spending money"....

I don't really think I am a lentil weaver, Lilliput, perhaps edging towards it slightly but certainly have traits/attitudes etc that are a million miles away from earth motherdom! And I don't think you have to be an earth mother to be a doula. I have been a doula for 3 years now, and I would say only about 10% of the women who have asked me to support them during births/postnatally have been lentil weavers. I think when you meet people for the first time you either connect or you don't, and folk will usually choose you because you are on their wavelength. You can't really shadow the work of a doula IMO, you just go out there and support women and their families as if you were a sister or a mother. See you on saturday Muminfife
