Sorry, just loved this quote from the radiant Kate Winslet in the Independent today:

"Being a single mother is not remotely daunting. There's an instinctive strength that just kicks in. I didn't even get a nanny until she was nine months old. It's absolutely exhausting , but I wanted to experience all those thngs."

I like the "didn't even" bit. Wouldn't it be lovely to have a choice about wanting to experience exhaustion!

Liz Hurley in this month's Elle (pile of cack, wish I hadn't wasted my money) who moans on about being 10 whole stone - THE SHAME OF IT!!! - at 6 months pregnant. And she called and asked them if she could be on the cover according to the editorial.

callie · 20/02/2002 09:02

WWW, Did it say what she weighed before pregnancy?

Lil · 20/02/2002 09:30

I read that article too, it promised an insight into how Liz Hurley feels being pregnant and instead it was a whole 2 pages on how much Liz Hurley has weighed in every stage of her life. That's all being pregnant means to her, being heavy???????

Agree WWW, the whole magazine was a waste of money, it was like paying for a clothes catalogue, without one decent article. Yet it was over 300 pages long!!

callie · 20/02/2002 09:33

But there the kind of articles I like!! Being nosy I love knowing how much celebritys weigh!! Especially when there putting it on. Makes me feel less of a fat cow as i was 10 stone 4 at 9mths preggo. [Iam a midgit though]

jessi · 20/02/2002 14:27

That is traj that all Liz cares about is how much she weighs! I thought one of the perks of getting through the 9 long months of pregnancy, was the fact that you can at LAST really enjoy eating lots and not worry about it for once in your life!

WideWebWitch · 20/02/2002 19:44

Hi Callie, yes, it did, there was a photo of "me at my modelling best of 8 1/2 stone" and she's about 5'8!!! Maybe taller? You're right Lil, the mag was one long ad for expensive clothes and she didn't talk about her pregnancy as promised on the cover (hey, I don't believe everything I read though!) just her weight.

Lizzer · 25/02/2002 16:18

WAAAA!!! I'm away for a week and a half and this juicy gossip packed thread has been so active - I'm gutted! Wish I could've added loads of stuff such as:
Yeah, that Zoe Ball's a right faux-natural mum type - and she gave up b/feeding v early on cos 'it was too messy' er, hello??

Liz Hurley - oh my god! I've been put off buying Elle now if its not worth the money, but was tempted - thanks for filling me in on the goss - what a bag for daring to put on weight while pregnant!!

And as for Martine - it did make me laugh when someone nicknamed her Munchin' MaTruncheon - (oooo, how rude!)

Rhiannon · 25/02/2002 21:04

Hi Lizzer, I'm back too, bit jet lagged so excuse me if you all hate this one but I always thought I'd hate Melinda Messenger but I quite like her, sorry can't help it she seems so nice! R

Marina · 25/02/2002 21:19

Lizzer, you will therefore be pleased to hear that when she collected a recent theatre award in London for her role in My Fair Lady, a heckler shouting, "Why didn't you send the understudy?" brought the place down.
Hope you and Rhiannon had good times - I bet Rhiannon had less rain...

callie · 25/02/2002 21:20

Yeah, I always wanted to dislike Melinder but can't!! She seems so down to earth. But I did read in an interview with her inO.K that she wants to adopt chilren even though she will soon have two of her own.
Why do celebs always adopt!!
And has any one else noticed how Brookly Beckam is almost 3yrs but ALWAYS has a bottle of juice in his hand.

How does Posh already know she is expecting a girl when she is only 12 weeks? I know she went to The Portland for a check-up, what have they got there? Some fandabidosy hi-tech scanner or what? I always thought you couldn't know until the 20 week scan?

SueDonim · 26/02/2002 00:32

Maybe she's had a CVS test?

callie · 26/02/2002 08:59

Jessi, I was puzzled by that one too!! It said in the paper that a scan at the portland confirmed she was having a girl.
I remember having a nuchal scan at 13 weeks and being told it was too early to tell sex.And I thought they were the most hi tec.

jessi · 26/02/2002 13:12

Suedonim, whats that then? Exscuse my ignorance!

bundle · 26/02/2002 14:56

Jessi, CVS (chorionic villus sampling) is an invasive test where part of the placenta is removed via a needle - a bit like amniocentesis - which is then genetically tested for eg Downs. This can tell you what sex the baby is. It can be carried out quite early, before 10 weeks, and there's a risk of miscarriage (about 2%, I think, so higher than with an amnio).

Rhiannon · 26/02/2002 21:09

I had a scan to tell the sex of my DD and was told to come not before 20 weeks as 'things' were not yet developed enough. R

There's a really hilarious photo in Heat magazine this week of Jonathan Pryce sitting behind Martine at those awards looking completely disgusted when she won best actress!! Hee hee!!

Sorry if this is controversial but I really like Victoria Beckham - I know that she spends money like it's going out of fashion but I reckon I might if I had the cash and success. I think that they really do look after Brooklyn alone (with her and David's mums help) and I'm pleased for them that they are having another one. In her book (yes I will admit to having bought it) she is very descriptive about the traumas of Brooklyn's early months - didn't sleep, allergic to all milk except a chemical one and a terrible bout of gastroenteritis that involved everything in the house covered in poo and sick. At least it's not a "everything is wonderful being a mother, I feel fulfilled, where's the nanny again" type of reading.

Bee · 27/02/2002 11:42

I bet Victoria Beckham went to one of those clinics where they boost your chances of having one sex of baby. Or maybe she had a kind of IVF and only put back girl embryos. Maybe??
