Who's up for helping to name a mobile bicycle mechanic business? Stupid ideas especially welcome.

Help!

DH runs a mobile bicycle mechanic business using the 'town name - bike repairs' as it's title. He wants to expand to cover a larger area (south devon) so wants to drop the town name. anyway, the van needs signage and we can't do that til we decide on the name.

Ideas so far are:
Bob the Bike
Virgo Velos (i've been informed that nobody knows what a velo is)

Whatever the name it will probably have a tag line stating exactly what he does.

Oh and the logo is likely to include a frog on a bike.

Who's feeling creative today? Please help. Thanks.

Do let us know what you go with, even if its nothing off here, just to satisfy our curiosity.

There is a mobile bike mechanic near me (Huddersfield) who is already using that frog on a bike logo OP (or one very similar ). I just thought you might like to know even though it's many miles away.

Do people actually pay for a puncture repair? Confused

Surely it would be cheaper to carry a spare inner tube? I carry a spare, then repair the other when I get home. Though the one time I DIDN'T have a spare I had to walk five miles home!

Agree, do let us know what you chose! :)

Whatever you do make a name that will ensure that you show up in Google or Bing if somebody types in just bike repairs in your local area. So something Creative might not bring you so much business as for example Mikes Outstanding Bike Repairs, or Bike Repairs on Wheels, Bike Repairs to you. Etc.

I suggested The Gear Guru, but DH not keen.

Maybe we don't need to change the name after all. Feeling a bit worn out with all of this.

the current website is here. Perhaps we just need the advertising/website/van signage to be clearer that he covers south devon not just totnes.

What is his main market? If it is repairing proper expensive road bikes, then most of the bike freaks would know what "Velo" means, I think.

I like Virgo Velos.

so far customers have been a good mix of expensive bikes and those picked up from the dump and looking for a renovation.

Need to be careful too of names that have already been used in case they mind and you get in trouble. Lots of bike shops use the "Cycological/logic" pun. There's a Blazing Saddles in Hebden Bridge.

Piffpaffpoff · 25/04/2012 20:39

I think you keep the name as is, but add it a strap line along the lines of 'mobile service and repair service for south devon'. Then do a bit of pr and advertising around the service expansion, so that people understand that the name is not a geographical limiter. Changing the name might lose you business from previous customers if they don't realise you've name changed.

Piffpaffpoff · 25/04/2012 20:42

Gah, one service too many in that strapline. 'Mobile cycle servicing and repair across South Devon' is probably better.

Hello,

My business is seeking skilled and qualified bicycle mechanics across the country and we'd welcome hearing from you regarding your business in Devon.

We are also interested to hear about other mobile bicycle repairers around the country. We're in contact with Cycle-fit.net and the Bike Inn who are helping us to find mechanics but if you know of any that may be interested please ask them to get in touch via the mechanics contact form on our website at bikeleasingcomapany.com

As far as ideas go, how far are you planning to expand in Devon? If you are planning to keep within the borders of Devon and possibly Cornwall, you could relate the bicycle repairs to things that Devon is famous for e.g. clotted cream, ice cream etc etc. how about The Cream of Devon Cycles. I'd probably avoid the clots or clotted bit:) LOL
