tomorrow!!!

Just had a phone call from the nursing home where I applied for a job last week. She called and asked to speak to me, said it was I, and she said who she was, and I was so flustered as I was in the middle of cooking dinner I couldn't think who she was - she remineded me it was about the job, and was I still interested......duh no - course I'm not LOL.

Asked when the best time for an interview was - and told her mornings, because of DH's (well didn't say DH obvsiuly LOL), hours - and she said 12 tomorrow.

OMG - I'm SOOOOOOOOO nervous - haven't had an interview before

Thanks to everyone who helped me fill in the form last week

Right better get back to dinner (if I can concentrate) and hopefully you lot will come up with lots of tips for me

QofQ - remember, just be yourself, walk into the interview with your head up and a nice smile on your face. You CAN do this job and they will be lucky to get you. Tell yourself this several times before the interview.

A good interviewer will try to get you at ease as soon as possible so they can interview the 'real' you. They will know you are nervous and will make allowances. If you do not understand a question ask them to repeat it, there is no shame in not understanding a question. If you can not think of an answer to a question, just politely say 'I need to think over this, could you please ask me the question again at the end"

I used to work in HR and I used to get very frustrated at women returners who used to run themselves down when giving an answer to a question. QofQ you are MORE than capable of working in this position, you run a home, you do your church work and your previous experience overseas. DO NOT answer negatively to any questions. For example, say they asked 'Have you ever bathed an old person' don't just say 'No'. reply 'Not an older person but I have X children and blah blah blah' Turn the question to suit you.

On a final note a wee tip. If the interviewer takes notes when you answer a question ,watch out when she stops writing as you have probabaly wafflede on too long

Hope some of this helps and good luck

Great advice from RTL.

Don't forget, the interviewer is a person too, so most of the rules of normal conversation still apply - listen carefully, demonstrate that you've heard and understood what she says, answer with reference to her points and make sure that she enjoys the experience of talking to you, so she knows that she'll enjoy working with you.

Try not to be too nervous, and perhaps think of it as a structured conversation rather than a one-way interview.

Thankyou

Feeling more nervous every hour at the moment, I think tomorrow it'll be every minute, and by the time I walk up to the home it'll be every 2nd

have to say the manager, who'll be interviewing me, sounded nice enough on the phone. And we did have a little chuckle when she asked if I knew where the home was.....before I had a chance to answer her she said "of course you do - you dropped the application form in by hand"

I think for this type of job they will be looking for someone who is friendly but professional So just be yourself!

Good luck - this sounds like the break you need!!

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 04/10/2005 23:28

I might not get a chance to get on here tomorrow, so I'll say good luck tonight. You've had some excellent advice on here. Just wear your black trousers or a skirt with a plain top, you'll be fine!! Try not to get too worried about it. IME these type of interviews are relatively informal. Hope it goes well!

QueenVictoria · 04/10/2005 23:36

Good luck!

HemlockLGJ · 05/10/2005 00:09

GO to bed QoQ. Be nice and fresh for tomorrow. Remember what MARS DH has said. He interviews care assistants all the time, so knows what he is talking about.

HRHQoQ · 05/10/2005 00:11

I'm going soon - don't want to go too early - or I'll be up at 5am

HRHTheDuchessofChaville · 05/10/2005 13:00

Did you get it QofQ?

HRHQoQ · 05/10/2005 13:13

Well - interview went ok (I think) - apprently they've had a lot of interest for the job, with applications still arriving in the post this morning .

I was the first person she'd interviewed, she's got another 2 today, 4 tomorrow and a couple of Friday - she hopes to let the successful applicant know on Monday/Tuesday

HRHTheDuchessofChaville · 05/10/2005 13:14

xx - Fingers crossed. at the amount of applicants - where I am there is a desperate shortage of care assistants.

HRHQoQ · 05/10/2005 13:16

thanks - got every thing crossed - this morning the bank sent numerous letters telling us that all but 2 or 3 of the direct debits were refused because of lack of funds in the account
