I was disappointed that she says she's not a feminist www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/apr/11/karren-brady-west-ham-apprentice but get this:

'one of her players said, "I can see your tits in that shirt," to which she replied, "Don't worry, when I sell you to Crewe, you won't be able to see them from there." (The player was, indeed, sold soon afterwards.)'

Her reason for saying she is not a feminist:

'I think the term feminist is scary for women, because it means that you're extreme in some way'

Not scary for me.

Is it just me or is the idea of "extreme" equality a non sequiteur?

I think it's noticeable that she has worked very hard and has taken on responsibility and power. I do think that the power makes it easier to deal with sh*tey comments like that.

Must say I was slightly at her parents moving her from a girls' convent to a school with only 6 girls in it! No wonder she's now unfazed by being visible.

That actress who played Juno in the film Juno has spoken about feminist issues and being a feminist. She's American and not hugely famous but is in another film coming out directed by....whats her name.....Drew Barrimore, called "Whip it"

Feminism sounds dated and extreme, whether it is or not is by the by. There needs to be a new name for this.

posie - the people opposing feminism would just criticise the new name saying the same things that are asid about feminism in it's current guise, why bother changing it? It weakens the movement.

I think a change might be happening, there seems to be a lot more media coverage of feminism and more people becoming interested in it. I think it's making a comeback with new voices. I'm thinking of Object and their efforts in reclassifying pole/lap dancing clubs as sexual encounter businesses rather than the same band as cafes and restaurants.

Perhaps you, more informed, ladies would like to keep us, the stupid, informed. I like to think that I have always had a handle on what is right and equal. I grew up in a household where my father and mother shared the housework and we were under no illusion that they were equal.
