Teenage boy receives referral order after stabbing girl who rejected him

This happened locally to me. A 14 year old girl turned down the advances of a teenage boy who then used fake social media accounts to harass her. When she refused to go out with him, he followed her into a shop and stabbed her repeatedly. He also stabbed the shop owner who tried to intervene.

What did this little pillar of the community get as a punishment, a restraining order and a 12 month referral order. I’m so bloody angry that the safety of women and girls is seen as unimportant and the sentences given to offenders are so pathetic.

The victim impact statement is heartbreaking.

Sorry about the DM link, it’s in my local paper but behind a paywall https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16150735/Moment-schoolboy-follows-girl-repeatedly-stabs.html

Moment schoolboy follows girl and stabs her in shop

The 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, launched the attack in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, on the morning of March 15 after she refused to go on a date with him.

That poor girl and yes a spectacularly inadequate sentence and the budget probably won’t stretch to proper psychological support for either of them.

heathspeedwell · Today 15:25

That is horrific. What message is a sentence that lenient sending out to teenagers?

Brummyhelpplease · Today 15:31

Absolutely not making light of his punishment as it is far too little but is he getting mental health help also? Clearly he is witnessing this and more at home if this was how he chose to act? Social services involvement? Fines for the parents too?

Hoardasurass · Today 16:04

Wow thats such an inappropriate sentence as once he completes his year his record will automatically be classed as a spent conviction and wont need to be declared.
That boy should be in a secure carehome/juvenile jail and being put through an anti radicalisation/ anti incel programme

More likely he learned this behaviour from the Internet than at home, especially when you take into account all of his actions from creating the fake profiles so he could harass and bully her right through to the stalking and attempted murder, it's classic red pill incel tactics and retoric in the real world.

OhBotherSaidPoo · Today 16:14

How can we appeal this sentence, given we need to write and state the bastards name when this cretin has been given anonymity.

lcakethereforeIam · Today 16:18

Why wasn't he charged with attempted murder? The police are quoted as saying

'The victim was stabbed multiple times with a knife and has been very, very lucky to get away with only minor injuries. We could easily have been looking at a fatal incident if that knife had pierced her anywhere else.'

I agree the shopkeeper is a hero.

MyDpsanarse · Today 16:25

That's a woefully inadequate sentence for a stabbing, 14 or not. He may well have MH problems but that isn't the fault of that poor girl, to go through that and not see him get any real consequences must be heartrending

SharkyBait · Today 16:25

The lack of sentence doesn’t surprise me at all. Boys are allowed to treat girls anyway they want to and you’ll get people more worried about the boys’ future rather than the girls who were assaulted getting any form of justice or understanding of how they have been treated.

I’m finding boys behaviour towards girls these days shocking. I have a just turned 13 year old dd and I cannot tell you how many boys have pestered her, not taken no for an answer, called her a slag or a cunt for not wanting to go out with them, been aggressive towards her, lied about her…it’s frightening how awful some boys are, and they won’t get better with age. I spoke to one dad about his ds’s behaviour towards her and he immediately started defending his ds saying my dd deserved to be called a slag because she had (politely) told him she didn’t want to go out with him and his feelings were hurt. Maybe I should just be grateful that she wasn’t stabbed for saying no to him.

MyDpsanarse · Today 16:28

Sadly @SharkyBait the boy won't learn any better if that's his DFs attitute, a girl's a slut because she hurt his feelings

RoastLambs · Today 16:36

It’s an outrage. The treatment of girls and women is out of control.

He stabbed a child in board daylight and in public and nothing has happened to him. I feel like going and stabbing him, might as well.

AmandaHoldensLips · Today 16:36

I have no doubt that we are dealing with a porn-addled generation of boys who think girls owe them attention and sex. Misogynistic content needs to be outlawed and blocked from all devices. I am so sick to death of the constantly upward trend of violence against women and girls and the empty words of politicians and law enforcement.

That boy needs locking up and putting on a register for life. He won't change. They never do.

Cross posted.

It did seem to have an affect when the two rapists got off.

Minasama · Today 16:44

That’s ludicrous. That kid is clearly highly dangerous.

The crimes are so terrible these days (despite the overall crime rate apparently having fallen) that I think judges and juries have just become insensitised to them and to how dangerous some people are.

Time was he’d have been put in the stocks and you could have thrown tomatoes at him.

As my dad always says, it’s amazing how much more brutal and vicious crimes have become since schools stopped caning boys.

RoastLambs · Today 16:49

It asks what the crime he was charged with is and its

Wounding with intent, inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Why it is GBH without intent I don’t know!

Iheartmysmart · Today 17:11

I’m sorry that’s happening to your DD @SharkyBait It’s absolutely horrific how young girls are treated now, the entitlement of some boys and young men is beyond comprehension. And as for the father who defended his son, that pretty much sums it up, women you will give us we want - your views and feelings aren’t important.

I grew up in the 70s which were misogynistic in their own way but there wasn’t the awful graphic porn widely available then. And certainly no mobile phones or social media to stalk people.

It’s very difficult to imagine a way back from this point.

I've just seen another thread which paints an even more serious picture of the online environment for youngsters than I'd understood.

The article in that OP is about Australia, but the trend exists in the UK too, alas.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/feminism/5581057-new-international-online-threat-to-young-girls-australian-federal-police-speak

I hope a poster on that thread won't mind if I C&P her account of what was said by the Australian police:

That it is a gaming culture kind of thing where teen boys and young men (the ages she gives are around 17 I think) in online groups identify "hunt stalk and draw in" young girls from a range of online platforms and begin grooming her, then intimidating, exploiting and controlling her, and forcing her into acts of violence against themselves, siblings, others, pets etc. She says they are decentralised loosely affiliated networks, in Australia and off-shore, groups glorifying sadistic online exploitation, cyber attacks and violence. They are based on nilism, sadism, nazism and satanism. Most of their victims pre-teen or teenage girls. She describes it as a new and disturbing front in gender-based violence. 59 potential offenders identified in Aus, three arrests made, and some also overseas. Perpetrators are predominantly white middle class.

Even if this wasn't a direct factor in the actions of the boy who stabbed the 14-year-old girl, this is the sea in which teens are now swimming.
