Once again Ed Davey shows he is no friend to women

From his Radio 4 interview this morning:

'The Supreme Court created something that we didn't expect.

'We've been working out how to make sure it's implemented properly and we've been waiting for this guidance – it's taken a long time.

'And we think, talking to businesses, they don't think it's clear enough or helpful enough. So we're responding to what other people are saying.'

Words can't express how angry this makes me. He has no idea how women are feeling, has he?

Please, any Lib Dem women still in the party, do what you can to overturn the vote this afternoon

Well no, Ed, it didn't. It clarified that in law (and indeed in the real world) men are men and women are women, and the one cannot magically become the other.

The fact that this was a surprise to Ed and his TRA advisors shows just how complacent those advocates feel - and how valuable the SC announcement truly is

The insane thing is that I worry people will vote for him anyway, I have left leaning friends who will not particularly agree with him but don’t really know a lot and dislike the tories so will vote Lib Dem. It’s terrifying, we will end up like Australia.

So they wish to change the law to give a small cohort of people privileges that no one else has because...?

A left coalition is very concerning.

They were given money from a company that makes puberty blockers.

At that moment they changed course and its probably in the small print that they have to keep on and on about this forever.

I live in a Lib Dem stronghold. It is interesting to ask friends why they vote Lib Dem - none of them can name any policies!! It just seems an option they can connect with.

As a good centre leftie I shouldn't dislike him as much as say Farage. But I do.

I think it is his smarmy, privileged cluelessness that does it. His cosy certainty that he's a good guy as opposed to yet another bastard male politician.

People have been voting Libdem in South West London (Ed Davey and Sarah Olney's patch) for decades. They appeal to people who don't quite want to vote Labour, but think the Conservatives aren't very nice.

The problem is they could easily be power sharing with Labour next time, and the Greens even. If we go backwards after the SC ruling it’ll be utter shite.

Ed Davey is a middle class mr blobby running around in theme parks in an attempt to distract from the fact that he's inept and he has no policies.

I'll point out that if TRA dont want to be seen as sexual predators, they could do worse than lobby for something other than men following girls into changing rooms.

I stopped voting Lib Dem when Lynne Featherstone announced that the party didn’t want my vote.

Ed Davey has done nothing to make me revise my policy.

Davey had some decent policies on care. Probably because he has a personal interest in the subject.

But it's really sad to see how the rest of the party has just disintegrated and gone all to shit on these issues.

God, politics and politicians in this country are so painfully dim.

This isn't about guidance, it's about the law of this country. A silly little vote by a party of no consequence cant change that.

It does however give me real insight into which party's not to vote for.

If they want to change the law to lessen womens rights, let's have it out there in an open and transparent way. The Denton playbook doesn't work anymore.

There is nothing in the Equality Act or the guidance that prevents unisex provision (whether or not anyone on this board would support it). The only thing you definitely can't do is create a service for women and then allow men to use it, because then it is no longer a service for women. This is not discrimination. It's just how logic and the material world work.

The Equality Act specifically says that people covered by the PC of gender reassignment must have provision, and if ED and SO genuinely cared about this they would be campaigning for more unisex provision. But they don't, so they come up with platitudes without bothering to engage.
