If I have to read one more time 'but parkrun is just meant to be fun' or 'you are only racing against yourself and your best time' I'm going to scream.

Why does that only apply to women?

If it's just a bit of fun there is absolutely no need for trans identified men to get a time or position either. They have the option to register as another gender or to just run and not register at all.

If it's all just fun and we moaning women should shut up, why do these arguments only apply one way?

No one is saying they can't run in whatever clothing/identity they like. Just that they shouldn't be recorded as women.

TIM's are being asked, if they want to do Parkrun, not to tick the first of these four boxes when they enter. It's practically genocide 😪.

I'm as GC as they come but park run really isn't a race, and you/we really are racing against ourselves.

Plus there is no sane way for volunteers to check and police participant's sex. There.is no way I'm volunteering to get into that argumenton a Saturday morning. (Indeed how would I even know what they selected in a drop down list on a web site?)

The runs are mixed so there's no additional safety issue if men want to record themselves as women.

If anything Parkrun highlights the ludicrousness of choosing sex based on "feels". If I'm feeling young one morning can I run as a 15yo? Yes I can. I can be anything. Which says it all. Of course, if people self identify then under 11s can identify as 20 year olds and run without a parent.

So, I'm GC and I'm totally happy with people 100% self identifying for parkruns, if anything it helps the GC case.

Not really. So many TIMs, cheered on by their gender borg acolytes, are convinced they have achieved the holy grail status of 'passing' that they believe the only way they can be clocked is via a genital inspection. As others have suggested I would not be surprised if that is what they actually dream of.

If it was just people that "amble round a park" it wouldn't be a problem, but there are recorded positions and records.

The average decent sportswoman will easily outpace anyone at a parkrun, male or female. Do some research on female sporting excellence (especially at endurance events), how very few trans women could begin to compete with them, what transitioning does to the trans female body - and get some perspective.

So its women's fault that a mediocre male won't run in a park run for his own sex?
what transitioning does to a body is done with the consent of the person going through the transition, it shouldn't have an impact forced on someone else.

Maybe do something useful to help women rather than obsess over a tiny minority for once.

377 parkruns at 199 venues in 11 countries, plus 338 volunteer credits at 60 locations. Then there's my 7 years as an RD. What's your definition of a newbie?

I identify as having done 378 parkruns in 204 venues.

I don’t feel the same about park run because of the injustice over categories. I still love the whole concept and the event- but am angry that they dismiss women so easily.
Am also sick of the comments about on SM- there doesn’t seem to be as much (vocal) support. We are being painted as the baddies here.

And it only takes one or two keen TW running in different places over a few months to totally trash the top women's rankings. And in any case, why should a woman somewhere down in the 50s rankings of her local parkrun be knocked down even one spot by some bloody bloke?

Whilst I wholeheartedly agree, the fault doesn’t lie with park run. Runners put their sex down in their account, that’s where the data gets pulled from. So if Steve puts his sex as F, he’ll get recorded in the women’s category. Not really park runs fault.

You know there is a thread dedicated to just sports evidence among the threads on FWR, don’t you? Maybe you should take the time that many others have done and read the links in that thread.

It's up to Parkrun to sort this out. If they can prevent people from cheating in the age categories, they can prevent people cheating in the sex categories.

Apparently if they catch people lying about their age, they can simply delete that person's records altogether, which sounds like a good deterrant.

Also the fact that there are people who cheat is further proof that for many people it is a competition.

There's a difference between park run saying sex is self determined and park run expecting everyone to be truthful, but having little control over how people register themselves.

And the problem isn't men cheating to look like they are better than they are, its men using the event as validation of their belief that they are women.

Most rules cannot be policed all the time. If I choose not to wear a seat belt in my car, its unlikely that I'll ever get caught. But its still illegal, for very good reasons. Rape its incredibly difficult to prosecute, but we haven't just scrapped all the laws and said there's no point - it remains illegal to show that this is unacceptable in our society.

We gave previously relied on the social contract, the expectation if you like, that men will stay out if women's spaces/sports. This social contract has now been smashed to pieces by organisations like parkrun telling males they can do as they please without consequence (if they cared they could threaten to delete all records held by these cheats as they do if a false age is found to have been given. But they don't. Its all very Pontius Pilate).

Its utter nonsense to wring our hands and say that nothing can be done.

And as for genital inspections? 👀 That's just a TiMs wank fantasy. The TRAs seem to think we're all 'schroedingers Terf' - at the same time so prudish and pearl clutching that we are afraid of penises, but also 'obsessed with genitals'. Like all the other TRA bingo card bs, it makes zero logical sense.
