Booby-trapped Trans tape on Edinburgh lampposts injures council worker during removal

MorningsideMaze · Today 20:34

For a couple of years a TRA has been placing pink/blue/white tape on lampposts in Morningside in Edinburgh. Also stickers and other graffiti.
It seems theTRA has got fed up of the council removing their pink/blue/white tape from the lampposts and decided to booby trap them. They have put some substance on the tape, presumably to deter their removal. However, this has led to the hospitalisation a council worker who was removing the tape (and a major response from the emergency services sealing off a major road).
They then appeared a few hours later and put more tape (and substance) on!
This had half of Edinburgh gridlocked last night

Terrorism (n): the use of violence or the threat of violence against civilians, in order to further a political or military objective.

Will it be properly investigated?

Will it be reported elsewhere?

ScottishTERF · Today 20:49

My friend was caught up in this incident but the media have been very coy about reporting it. I cannot understand (actually, I can, SNP! Enough said) why there has not been huge publicity and warnings if chemical poisons are spread around a very busy suburb of Edinburgh.

AimsAndObjectives · Today 20:49

@MorningsideMaze How do you know it is a TRA and trans-related? Genuine questions.

The pink, blue and white stickers/tape kinda gives it away. But you would have to search the photos very closely to see them. You would almost think the photos have been censored.

Who else remembers the ongoing accusations a few years back that women’s rights campaigners were putting razor blades behind stickers?

What’s the saying again? Every accusation an admission!

Anyone who travels through this area will have seen over the last few years that a TRA has been putting tape, stickers and trans related graffiti in a very specific area.
The media though are being very coy about it.

Ok, thanks. I'm not local so unaware of the history.

Near Beira's place by any chance?

Edit: this is just a genuine guess btw, I'm not from Edinburgh but it's my assumption since the TRAs are always spitting mad about single sex services for women, especially if funded by a certain famous author.

BeaTwix · Today 21:40

Not near Beira's place. But in the school catchment for several of the schools that have been discussed on this board previously for the activism amongst the teaching staff.

It's one of the few place I have actually put up some TERF-y stickers as I have a policy of only placing them over contrary material.

I know anecdotally of several cases where children were transitioned without their parents knowledge at these schools. The local demographic is similar to the kids who dropped the insects at the LGB alliance conference.

MorningsideMaze · Today 21:50

Not near Biera’s place, but I believe JK did live in the area for years (waves at JK in case she’s reading this).

What do they hope to achieve with terrorism? Just what?

I mean trans rights all sounds sort of not totally unreasonable, to have little Johnny-I-mean-Julie attend a girls sleepover when you have known him all his life and he’s a sweet kind boy from a loving family. And then you see TRAs in marches and you immediately know that no fucking way - not a hope in hell - should these creepy, enraged men ever be allowed to set foot into women’s anything anywhere ever. But yeh, terrorism. That’ll convert minds to TRAs way of thinking I’m sure!

Why that area?

ArabellaScott · Today 22:00

What was the substance supposed to have been?

FlirtsWithRhinos · Today 22:03

Hmm. Unless there's something very damning that's not being reported this seems quite tenuous.

BeaTwix · Today 22:05

@Dooferer bored entitled middle class teenagers has always been my assumption when I've been wandering around and clocked the tape and stickers.

I might have missed something more sinister though.

Literally last week TRAs on Reddit were saying it still happens.

How can the substance be both harmless to the public and yet dangerous enough to hospitalise 2 workers and mobilise police to cordon off the area?
What was it?

Well yes that’s the question. It’s hard to believe it’s totally innocuous. It smacks of a police ‘nothing to see here’ cover up attitude. And if it’s not a cover up, come clean with exact details to reassure.

It’s just like the way police Scotland have (apparently) stopped recording the ethnicity of those who carry out sex crimes. A cynic would say that they did this so they couldn’t be FoI’ed to find out whether the rise in immigration is driving crime higher. But surely this is important information to know by the general public when deciding how important issues like race are in the ballot box. It’s a fine line between giving meat to Neanderthal racist vigilantes and keeping the public adequately informed.

The reporting does seem confused. It says two staff members were taken to hospital after falling ill, but Edinburgh Council says they were taken as a precaution which implies though doesn't state they weren't ill.

So were they actually experiencing symptoms, and if so, what were they? That's surely in the public interest.

I suppose it’s possible the substance caused some temporary irritation or made them feel unwell without being dangerous, much like, say pepper spray and various other substances can do.

It’s also odd that they haven’t said what the substance was, given that it has now been tested. In similar cases, it often turns out to be something completely harmless, such as talcum powder.

what if someone did a false flag copyed the tape etc to pin the blame on them when it was another group, ?

GrumpyPanda · Today 23:38

Well, there's a surprise. Considering how long trans Reddit has been fantasizing about razor blades purportedly being put under GC stickers, I suppose something like this was the logical next step given their fondness of projection and DARVO.
