Booby-trapped Trans tape on Edinburgh lampposts injures council worker during removal

For a couple of years a TRA has been placing pink/blue/white tape on lampposts in Morningside in Edinburgh. Also stickers and other graffiti.
It seems theTRA has got fed up of the council removing their pink/blue/white tape from the lampposts and decided to booby trap them. They have put some substance on the tape, presumably to deter their removal. However, this has led to the hospitalisation a council worker who was removing the tape (and a major response from the emergency services sealing off a major road).
They then appeared a few hours later and put more tape (and substance) on!
This had half of Edinburgh gridlocked last night

Down in Essex on a trip & there were streets with all union flags, and streets with all St George flags.

My first thought was when are these streets going to fight each other?

I don’t like the idea of England becoming like Belfast, frankly.

I see the shout has gone out to the derailers.

To get back on topic has the culprit been named officially?

I’d assumed that’s cause the far right knobbers were too short! But seriously, piss off with your flags. Do they harm or help with community cohesion? Harm, so off they should fuck.

I would happily ban all fucking flags that had a political meaning.

The only ones I like are the ones they use to dress the ships, where they are all shrunk tiny and look pretty.

I was no far from there on streetview just last week, searching for the location of a nice photo I saw on FB with a distinctive red sandstone tenement.

I just took a quick look around and the streetview footage is from September 2022 and the tape is quite obvious on four and maybe a fifth post (Maxwell St looking towards Morningside Road). In other nearby footage from October 25 I don't see the tape. So the streetview footage is in line with reports from PP that this has been going on for years on and off.

I don’t think the suspect has been named officially. I am surprised by the lack of media interest. Anyone know any Journalists they can get interested in poking around?

Possibly released on an undertaking to appear (aka police bail). He’ll be named when he appears.

OMG. I have just read speculation as to what the 'substance' was. Something only men can produce! And we are supposed to believe it is not a sexual fetish.

That would explain why the cleaning workers started feeling ill, from disgust rather than poisoning, and they'd be taken to hospital for checks after contact with bodily fluids.

What a surprise! Who would have ever thought that Police Scotland would yet again be pinning male crimes onto women! The shock, the surprise etc etc...

And of course he has form for threatening women. 'Only as a joke' of course.

Would love to see what all the posters on this thread who were downplaying/denying/calling us all loonies have to say now.

Trans woman who ‘threatened to shoot’ MP acquitted after saying she was only joking

Eve Shaw said she would ‘pop’ Joanna Cherry in a tweet that was interpreted as a threat to shoot the SNP MP

wow there's a turn up for the books

MoistVonL · 06/09/2026 11:31

Would you Adam and Eve it!

(sorry. But what a blatant choice of name change)

SirChenjins · 06/09/2026 11:44

Nooo- a man from the most discriminated, threatened, vulnerable group to have ever walked the Earth did this? Surely not - I simply refuse to believe it.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 06/09/2026 11:57

Blimey. Person who role plays as a member of the opposite sex turns out to be wildly unstable. Who’d have thunk it?

SidewaysOtter · 06/09/2026 14:37

Well fuck my old boots, who'd have seen that coming? Hmm

We also have to note that the title of this thread says "Booby-trapped Trans tape on Edinburgh lampposts injures council worker" and soon after, the word "terrorism" appeared in a comment. I don't think it's downplaying or denying anything to say "Let's hear more about what actually happened before we respond to this".

So, what was actually incorrect in the thread title?

Booby trapped - tick
Trans tape - tick
Edinburgh lampposts - tick
Injures Council worker - I mean, workers taken to hospital after being taken ill - tick

And as we all expected, it was a TRA, a man and someone who has previously made violent threats against women.

And also as predicted, Police Scotland are outright lying to the public.

Terrorism? Debatable I suppose but certainly violent bullshite aimed at women.

What did I get wrong?

He's not been charged with terrorism, but with culpable and reckless conduct ie deliberate conduct that exposes an individual, or the public generally, to significant risk to life or health.

They are treating it as a dangerous prank because any political motivation would be hard to make out. We will have to wait for trial to find out exactly what he did to endanger life or health, I suppose.

There's an explainer here:
