Sexist Unions boycott Labour women's conference

Unison, Aslef, Usdaw and the Musicians Union are planning to not attend Labour Women's Conference on 26 September 2026 in Liverpool because men are not allowed.

This is breaking Labour party rules against sex discrimination against women and that the Supreme Court judgement is correct:
https://labour.org.uk/resources/supreme-court-judgment-faqs/

This could be a huge issue for Burnham and Labour. Especially as Unison, & Unite are already facing court cases over their refusal to admit women exist.

Like the recent Amnesty trainwreck this could be a self inflicted car crash for TAs in the unions. It will force Labour to choose between reality and catering to a bunch of sexists who don't like it when women get have political meetings without male supervision.

Supreme Court Judgment FAQs – The Labour Party

Supreme Court Judgment: Frequently Asked Questions On 16 April 2025, the Supreme Court clarified that references to “women” in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex (meaning the sex of a person at birth), not gender. This means that certain sex...

What does appear to be good news is that for all the threats and whining, there appear to be 8? people & a couple of flags trying to silence women. With Steph producing a very self centred leaflet about his alleged "advocacy for women" - the larger demo photographed appears to be about Palestine?

So maybe all the union hype was just hot air - or maybe Labour did suggest that they STFU and leave women alone?

I think estimates say that it has attracted just 25% of its usual attendees. So the question is rather - why so many women would rather side with trans people than GC people? And I'm very confident in saying that it's because we've allowed hateful extremists to take over the messaging instead of backing sensible same sex provision where necessary.

I often can’t scroll down on X links, but I could on this and it was worth it.

why are you protesting about women attending a women’s conference? Are they not allowed to do that without the presence of men (whether they are men in dresses or not)? Who are you - the Taliban?!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Andy Burnham decided to emulate the boy in the Emperor's New Clothes and call them all out?. He has the Supreme Court verdict in his corner.
He won't of course but it would improve his poll ratings if he did.

Yep

The Taliban - love it! It has a definite ring of truth...

Lol at all your "we" & "us". 😂

Women on here will understand only too well that the fear of violence, bullying and threats are enough to put many women off attending.

Labour once had a reasonable history of promoting the rights of women. Not so much the unions, many of who have for decades been mired in scandals involving the abuse of women - take a look at the recent history of the RCN as an example.

Trying to frame the poor attendance as the fault of women is laughable, but predictable given the nature of so many of your posts on FWR.

The poor attendance is down to the usual tactics of intimidation so beloved by trans extremists.

You don't speak for all GC women. And you clearly don't speak for all women.

Labour has never elected a female leader and can’t hold a women’s conference. They’ve let fringe activists destroy even that. Why should any woman vote for them?

They've had many - without incident I might add.

Where is this figure from? I've seen it mentioned a couple of times but can't find it's source.

Indeed. Just shows how they've fallen. The conferences go back to the 1900s and you can see through them the progression of many of the influential labour women.

Again it's a sign of how transactivism trashes so much of what it touches - especially if it's something specifically for women.

Um, you might want to check the provenance of that video - it is clearly from Cologne Pride in Germany.

I've been around the conference venue twice today... and not really much in the way of visible protests about anything yet. I imagine that will start tmorrow.

Neither do you, so your point is?

JanesLittleGirl · 26/09/2026 22:22

@alcovecupboards Do you claim to speak for any GC women? If so, what do you understand by the term 'Gender Critical'?

I speak for myself. I'm sensibly GC - and believe my beliefs more accurately represent the majority of people full stop. The radicalisation of Mumsnet's contingent clearly isn't reflective of wider society. You only have to look at how legal losses are being claimed as wins here - when they aren't. It's backfiring badly all to line a few people's pockets.

SirChenjins · 26/09/2026 22:56

And what is "sensibly GC"?

alcovecupboards · 26/09/2026 19:08

You need to get a grip. A handful of people standing outside in silence is not bullying. Genuine question - how on earth do you cope in every day life?

ah, but when we get TRA claiming words are literal violence, and refusing to pretend transpeople have not changed sex is “literal genocide”, surely people can call some saddos stood outside a conference bullying?

borntobequiet · 27/09/2026 08:53

There appears to be a new definition of “gender critical”, assigning it a meaning opposite to the original. Though I’m happy to see that “sex realist” is no longer being used as a derogatory term, probably because the usual reaction was “wtf are you saying?”.

@alcovecupboards is typical of a number of newcomers posting in recent months who start off with "I'm as GC as they come but..." then the mask slips.

Wishesandhorses · 27/09/2026 09:39

Oh so now women are getting kicked in the teeth by activists (I include the 'GC as they come ones' and the 'sensibly GC as in not GC at all but identifying as for the purposes of teeth kicking other women' ones) is a cause for blame?

As is needing or wanting a single sex space is a cause for blame?

And belonging to a minority faith that precludes providing undressed bodies to men with gender identies is a cause for blame? (stop those faiths and cultures at once! Yay colonialism, be like your betters!)

And being homosexual which precludes wanting sex with men with gender identities is a cause for blame?

And having a disability that precludes wanting or accepting mixed sex spaces or accepting a male carer who wishes to provide intimate care in the shared pretence that he is female so he can use that access to her body to benefit his inner self?

And having suffered violence and trauma and CSA from men that precludes being able to be in an enclosed place in a state of undress is a cause for blame?

Bloody hell. I don't know what the fuck these activists think their political affiliation is, but I don't recognise it as anything left wing. Left wing are into actual equality, inclusion and tolerance. This new 'I identify as left' is about as convincing as any other fashionable identity, it's just words tossed as dressing over absolute batshit. Who treats vulnerable women like this?

I would think some of the reasons the conference has low attendence is that women are not willing to be identified as in any way involved with those terrible women who think women, especially minority and vulnerable women, should have rights and equality with men with gender identities, and that taking their clothes off for a man with a gender identity and providing him with access to their body should not be the price of access to a public space.

We can see clearly on this thread the bullying and jeering and nastiness they would be subjected to by the goodies, and what impact that would have on them in a real place under their real name where that political bullying would follow them. I have great respect for the women who have been able to be there. Thank you for standing up for all women and for actual equality.

I'll be popping into the city centre later to see what the scene is around the conference centre.....the weather is a bit miserable today, though, breezy and the odd rain shower. Tomorrow looks the nicer day - weather wise.
