Oddballs, the UK company that sells novelty underwear, typically with the marketing that the buyer is supporting good causes such as testicular cancer awareness, has removed its entire Harry Potter collection from its website, after one trans activist complained

As reported, with screenshots here:

I have unsubscribed from emails and written to them. Sick of companies and public institutions bowing to these infantile people who ruin things for other people.

I have some excellent Harry Potter socks from Socktopus.

I would however appreciate it if the TRAs could launch a campaign against the wizard tat tourist shops filling the high streets of our more picturesque towns; this would be a great benefit to everybody.

Slightly off topic but I happened to be wandering past one of those shops in York as the salesperson was successfully upselling the already insanely overpriced butterbeer in the already upgraded "goblet" to an "experience" which consisted of the purchaser being alllowed to film for tiktok while a bored teenager waved a wand over a cup of cream soda in a cheap mass produced glass before adding squirty cream on top all for a bargain price of about £11....

Im a HP fan and all for treating yourself even if its something that other people might not see the benefit of but this was one tome when I really had to struggle not to think "more money than sense..."

That subreddit is even more hilariously deranged than the other TRA ones. A typical post:

Did I mention I hate this woman on a parasocial level? Because I hate, hate, hate, hate, HAAAAAAAAAAAATE this woman so much, it's become a defining feature of my personality.

I missed that one. There was only so much drivel I could look at. The scolders accuse us of being ‘obsessed with trans people’ but their self-obsession and hatred of anyone who disagrees with them is something to behold.

Good on them for doing it.

I'll write as well. Since Christmas I've bought 3 pairs of pyjamas, 3 bundles of socks and several bra/knickers sets but won't buy any more. If you read this Oddballs, remember that it's likely middle aged women who buy most of your products and generally we love Jk Rowling and that she stands up for women and girls. 'Go woke, Go broke' may yet apply. My advise to Oddballs would be to rethink, stock the Harry Potter range and suggest that if anyone is offended by a pair of Hogwarts socks, don't bleeding well buy them.

I think everyone needs a core belief, the church or Scientology or the routine of the working day, seizing on JKR as a hate figure is probably easy because she has cast such a large shadow, and if you cannot bow down to the craven idol then hating it is the next best thing

Thanks for the link @INeedAPensieve

I see the fragrant HH has been arrested and charged now. Sad Times.

Cordeliasdemonbabies · 16/07/2026 13:58

Seems very poor eco credentials to be sending new clothing to landfill instead of selling it.

TigTails · 16/07/2026 14:01

Whatever will I wear underneath my Snag Tights now. 🤢

I have also sent them a version of this email @NotDarkGothicMama thank you

I used to subscribe for their monthly underwear and socks deal and have easily spent hundreds on their products as they've had some good linkups with charities like the Doddie Weir campaign, Air Ambulances and also for former veterans as well as using them for presents for my rugby obsessed nephew. Sad that they've taken this stance, but there's other companies out there I can buy from.

If I 'tweeted' the following:

"Please join me in boycotting this previously morally admirable Oddballs because they reprehensibly withdrew their Harry Potter range, following a tweet calling for it to be boycotted if they didn't withdraw their Harry Potter range. My boycott will continue until such time as they restore their Harry Potter range".

Given that all it took to withdraw the HP products was a tweet, logically my tweet should be sufficient to have the range restored.

If a TRA then tweets again to threaten a boycott, and they withdraw the HP range again, well, I'll just have to tweet again and threaten a boycott of they don't restore it..

D'you get the picture, Oddballs?

Stop giving in to irrational whims. There are an awful lot of irrational whims about, and your distribution staff are going to get repetitive strain injury from withdrawing/replacing/withdrawing/replacing items in response to single threats of boycotts.

There's nothing wrong with Harry Potter merchandise. The author of the HP books is not evil. Use your common sense, Oddballs.

Oh I sent:

Dear OddBalls,

I am writing as a former customer to express my profound disappointment at your decision to withdraw your Harry Potter products following complaints.

Over the years I have bought many OddBalls products and have always been happy to support what I saw as a successful British company. Sadly, that ends today. I will not be purchasing from OddBalls again.

My concern is not about Harry Potter merchandise itself. It is that your company appears to have abandoned its own commercial decisions in response to organised pressure. I find that deeply disappointing.

I stand firmly with the rights of women and girls to privacy, dignity and fairness. I also believe boys deserve the same consideration and protection. Those principles matter to me, and I choose to spend my money with businesses that are prepared to stand by their products and their customers rather than yielding to campaigns of intimidation.

I appreciate that businesses have to make difficult commercial decisions, but this one has fundamentally changed my opinion of OddBalls. I am genuinely saddened by it because I have enjoyed your products for years and preferred supporting independent British companies over larger multinational brands.

I hope you reflect carefully on the message this sends to many of your existing customers. Your decision has cost you at least one loyal customer, and I suspect I will not be the only one.

Yours faithfully,
