Oddballs removes Harry Potter products following TRA complaint

Oddballs, the UK company that sells novelty underwear, typically with the marketing that the buyer is supporting good causes such as testicular cancer awareness, has removed its entire Harry Potter collection from its website, after one trans activist complained

As reported, with screenshots here:

I have unsubscribed from emails and written to them. Sick of companies and public institutions bowing to these infantile people who ruin things for other people.

Done, hopefully it will effect their sales and they might reflect on their actions

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 16/07/2026 07:36

'morally bankrupt company' , it's always so over the top with these hyper hysterics. 🤮

I'd say Oddballs are a spineless and pathetic company myself, perhaps their customer base is overly gender idiotic and they just trying to protect their profits. If not then they're likely to lose money with this stunt and so they should.

Note to the nutters, she's got billions, this won't affect her bank balance in any way, although it might torpedo Oddballs. 😂

NotDarkGothicMama · 16/07/2026 07:39

So disappointed. I buy quite a bit from them as I want to support small British businesses who don't use exploitative labour. I've emailed them. Feel free to copy & paste or tweak for your own use.

Good morning,

I am an existing customer who was planning to buy more from OddBalls, including from your Harry Potter range.

I am surprised and disappointed to see that you have removed the Harry Potter range following a complaint about J.K. Rowling's support for women and girls' sex-based rights. Her position is neither offensive nor illegal and has been supported by successive legal rulings and government actions protecting single-sex provisions enabling women and girls' to fully participate in public life.

Please reconsider what your hasty action says about your position on women and girls' rights, safety, privacy and dignity. I will not be buying from or supporting OddBalls while you maintain your current position.

hahabahbag · 16/07/2026 07:40

I suspect the main reason is they aren’t selling. It’s simply not popular like it was

BirdLandedonmyHead · 16/07/2026 07:42

Their current advertising campaign making jokes about STDs is completely crass.

Shame. Its products were good.

SidewaysOtter · 16/07/2026 07:50

Why is it that one complaint triggers this sort of nonsense? Waitrose had one complaint and renamed their “feminine hygiene” range Hmm

Or Sainsbury's (?) withdrawing a Christmas card saying "I identify as a Grinch" because some numpty was "triggered" by the word "identifying".

ApplebyArrows · 16/07/2026 07:54

I have some excellent Harry Potter socks from Socktopus.

I would however appreciate it if the TRAs could launch a campaign against the wizard tat tourist shops filling the high streets of our more picturesque towns; this would be a great benefit to everybody.

Thanks for playing.

MassiveWordSalad · 16/07/2026 08:27

How very 2019 of them 🙄

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned before, but there is a whole Reddit forum just devoted to complaining about JKR https://www.reddit.com/r/EnoughJKRowling/

What the fuck??

Its one thing to be concerned about the competing rights of women with trans people but quite another to demonise & dehumanise them routinely as a means to achieve this.

If Oddballs were going to stand by their social justice principles they had no choice. This might cost them & it might not because principled businesses are hard to come by.

RoyalCorgi · 16/07/2026 08:39

I think this trend of withdrawing a product in response to one complaint is ludicrous. It can't possibly make good business sense to be withdrawing products. It also leads, usually, to bad publicity. And, most obviously, acting on a single complaint means you have no idea whether that person is representative of public opinion or simply a lone fanatic with a grudge.

IlovetoKnitandRead · 16/07/2026 08:51

We started buying from them when my son was diagnosed with testicular cancer. No way will we be purchasing from them again now!

Thanks - sent a slightly amended version of this to Oddballs and unsubscribed from emails. Oddballs must have known whilst developing this range that it would be challenged. I was going to buy some to support companies that aren’t cowed by TRAs. But same old caving. I buy for three men/ boys in the house - will need to find another brand.

As someone who has primary school aged children and sometimes works with secondary school kids, this is demonstrably false. So many Harry Potter backpacks.

Maybe the Potter adults aren't buying so much anymore, but the IP is definitely still doing well.

That subreddit is even more hilariously deranged than the other TRA ones. A typical post:

Did I mention I hate this woman on a parasocial level? Because I hate, hate, hate, hate, HAAAAAAAAAAAATE this woman so much, it's become a defining feature of my personality.

BridasShieldWall · 16/07/2026 09:22

DH also cheesed off and he really likes the pants - he’s also sending an email.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 16/07/2026 09:22

Is HateJKR one of the new genders do you think. Preferred pronouns Dick/Ick/Spit 😂

SidewaysOtter · 16/07/2026 07:50

Why is it that one complaint triggers this sort of nonsense? Waitrose had one complaint and renamed their “feminine hygiene” range Hmm

I think that instance can be seen rather differently - I'm imagining a meeting looking at the one complaint saying "ok, so what subgroup of our demographic DOES like the term 'feminine hygiene'? Nobody likes it? Right, that's easy then, but let's get some woke points for free in the announcement." (We're in the subgroup that's actively annoyed by the announcement, but tbh, we're probably a small group as most people won't ever see the announcement - it's not like when a company makes a permanently-visible change to exclude the word "woman" or some such.)

MoistVonL · 16/07/2026 09:38

I agree, Ben - Feminine Hygiene is such an awful mealy-mouthed term for period products. Like menopause being The Change and the liquid poured on pads being blue.

I don't care who complained or why, it's a sensible alteration by Waitrose.

Mochudubh · 16/07/2026 07:54

Or Sainsbury's (?) withdrawing a Christmas card saying "I identify as a Grinch" because some numpty was "triggered" by the word "identifying".

THAT numpy was actually none other than weirdo polycule person "Sophie Molly" who is currently caught up in the contemptible scandal that their partner "Heather" Herbert is involved in due to making evil, disgusting remarks about Ann Widdecombe after her death.

Thread here for anyone interested. The Grinch complaint was shared at the time and it was them that complained. Why these revolting men are constantly pandered to I'll never know.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/07/2026 09:54

It gives them and other people the idea that their petty, selfish demands are important. I really wish people would stop pandering. And yes, “feminine hygiene” isn’t going to be missed, but I’m pretty sure it’s been complained about before, by women, it’s only TRAs who everyone jumps for.
