Welcome all to the Bluestocking Women's Pub, where food and drink are free as in gluten free, calorie free, alcohol free - but still delicious. And free free too, of course.
Served by highly professional staff who are gerbils.

The Bluestocking Ice-Cold Mojito Foot-bath kept us deliciously cool through the heatwave. Come and join us, in case there's another one🌞

I went on a primary school ‘educational visit’. They had some sort of performance - somewhat like old school circus - featuring a black panther which bit the handler. So I guess the key learning point was not to mess with panthers.

Colchester castle is good too.

The castle, and the castle park.

Ipswich Museum currently has Constable's Haywain, so I might have to go and see that.

If you're in that general neck of the woods, Framlingham Castle and Orford Castle (and Orford in general) are worth a trip.

We're currently going through a phase of guests and very social outings. It's enjoyable, but my not-very-inner introvert is already knackered.

If I’m ever in Colchester I want to go & see this. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/essex-witch-hunt-victims-memorial

@DeanElderberrythanks for the book suggestion

and 32 to read should see me through a couple of months !

ErrolTheDragon · 12/07/2026 19:13

A secondary school Educational visit was to Orford Castle. Having revisited I know it’s interesting but my memory is of a soft icecream with not very nice ‘strawberry’ sauce and spraining my ankle.

Today a beautiful day on the Broads started early, water glistening in the sunlight and bejeweled with dragonflies, damselflies and kingfishers. Birdlife along the way included an aerial contest between two large raptors - their aerobatics and the wind ruffling their tail feathers made it hard to tell if they were kites or buzzards or one of each. Even the gulls were performing, plucking small eels (we think) from the water around us.

Moored up for our final night in a pleasant spot from where we can easily get back to the boatyard for 9am return. The pub which had come highly recommended had I think been too busy over the weekend and had run out of quite a few things and then served one of our meals badly undercooked but they did replace it without much quibble. So a slightly disappointing end to the day but it’s a beautiful evening.

That sounds like a wonderful holiday @ErrolTheDragon .

I did a walk around the mall today as it was far too hot to walk out of doors and my gym closes on Sundays. However, in the process I found a great little present for my 9 ½year old UK granddaughter, who is autistic and loves all things goth and black, reduced to $5 in a clearance sale, plus a rather nice top for myself, also reduced in a sale with an additional 40% off, so - result!

I met up with DH for lunch at a breakfast/lunch diner we go to sometimes and had a Mediterranean omelette with sun-dried tomato, spinach and feta in it. Very very filling and I had to leave half the tomato as there was far too much of it in there. I suggested to the waitress that the chef could save a goodly portion of his budget for this item if he halved the tomato content.

We should think about moving. Does anyone have any good thread titles?

I can wake the gerbils still sleeping off last night’s celebrations.

Who's in the quarter finals, @MyrtleLion? That might help with title ideas.

AngleofRepose · 12/07/2026 21:17

Was just thinking about Where the Bluebird Sings to the Lemonade Springs, or some variation thereof (for our new magic spring, pool, and stream)

EmpressaurusKitty · 12/07/2026 21:22

And also Is Gubbins ok???

AngleofRepose · 12/07/2026 21:22

Shall I start one for my first time??

Gerbil World Cup Quarter Finals

  • Magic Roundabout vs. Atlantis
  • Play School vs. Hanseatic League
  • Scotland vs. Tunnel team
  • Bagpuss’s mice vs. Discworld

Gubbins slept through everything last night. She doesn’t really like football. But she’s agreed to play her triangle in the final, even if England are not through.

MyrtleLion · 12/07/2026 21:32

Thank you, Angle!

AngleofRepose · 12/07/2026 21:38

That was stressful! I'll see you all over there! ( I might be in the new pool)

Both Hansa and Discworld still in.
What on earth will I do if they meet in the final?

AngleofRepose · 12/07/2026 21:45

Forgot to say, the moving tractor has been booked, and the camels have made their way over already ( they heard there was a stream...sorry)😬I think everything us on boxes already.

So I'll just pack up some of the Gerbil World Cup stuff, a few of the craft things, and a coupla slices of buttered toast, please, To Go..

Don't forget to lock up and check the secret tunnels for sleeping gerbils! (I'm afraid my timing isn't good enough to be relied upon to lock up at the right moment)

Locking up. Last post.

I hope all the sleepy gerbils made the move okay.
