House Of Communions, Early Day Motion tabled - Draft Code of Practice on Services, public functions and associations

https://edm.parliament.uk/early-day-motion/65938

This is not a prayer motion, the only thing that could reject the draft guidance.

See here for more info https://www.parliament.uk/about/how/business/edms/

I do not think there is much chance of a prayer motion being voted on, given the timetables, who controls the timetable etc etc. But the chances are not zero.

I've given up emailing my MP (Minister). Never had more than an boiler-plate response.

I've never even had that, but I've still tried again. He was one of the earlier ones to sign...

TheInvisibleWorm · 12/06/2026 19:23

Finally got round to emailing my MP. I don't hold out much hope of a reply, never mind a useful explanation, but you never know.

I’m sure I remember, on the theyworkforyou site, they used to list MPs who don't reply to emails, as a policy, but the last time I looked, I couldn't find it any more.

Emily Thornberry has skin in the game. She has a cousin who calls herself a transman.

IIRC, she mentioned her cousin who identifies as a transman at a time when there was a bit of a row over using the term "people with cervixes" when inviting females for cervical smear tests. Sensible people were arguing that such a term is confusing and women who need smear tests might not get the test because they find the term "people with cervixes" confusing and don't realise that it refers to all women.

Thornberry clumsily chimed in with "my cousin is a transman, I presume he has a cervix, I don't know because I haven't asked him". She was seemingly oblivious to the fact that she was only underlining that the term "people with cervixes" is confusing and how can she not know if her transman cousin has a cervix or not? How can we ensure that the people who need cervical smear tests are getting them if prominent lawmakers such as Thornberry can't clearly state just which people have a cervix.

When you embrace trans ideology the rainbow family surgeon replaces your brain with a special chip which is pre-programmed to say stupid things. It's true!

BunnyBunbunbun · 13/06/2026 16:00

Talking of cervixes and who has them, Thornberry's fellow prominent Labour MP, David Lammy, thinks men can grow a cervix with the right medication, and India Willoughby claims to have one. Should transwomen also be eligible for smear tests, then, as, according to Lammy, they too are "people with a cervix"?

Not wishing to derail the thread, but this does reveal much about the brainrot of many MPs who toe the trans line.

It's interesting that Lucy Powell hasn't signed the EDM, when during her campaign for deputy leader she described EHRC guidance as "not right" and called for MPs to vote on allowing men into women's loos. She isn't a minister so should be able to sign EDMs. Perhaps her political ally Andy Burnham - another late convert to the Supreme Court ruling - advised her to keep schtum on this issue so as not to jeapordise his chances in Makerfield.

Well, that’ll be practically all of the MPs then.

This gender nonsense is still rampant in our young adults. And rampant amongst our elected representatives too it seems. Incredible how such a nonsensical belief system has taken root but it’s happened before.

Amongst the young, one minute they use the material reality of sex and the social construct of gender as though these are fully interchangeable terms. The next minute they use the words as entirely different different ie how they’re meant to be used. They don’t recognise they’re doing this and ignore how it’s illogical in the contradictions eg young men declaring their natural strength because of ‘being male’, but the next, referring to a young gay man now being a ‘straight woman’ because of being trans. FFS…. Said without a second hesitation and believing that there’s nothing wrong with that assertion. It’s because the words themselves have lost all meaning. Man, woman, male, female means nothing and everything. Orwell would be impressed.

Plus talking about taking CSHs as if they’re candy. This ideology is a mind rot. Encouraging the most selfish of impulses. And having a conversation about its tenets is like pinning jelly to a board.

Both my husband and I emailed our MP but he got an Automatic Response and I didn't. I sent a follow up and still no automatic response but I set receipts on so could see my email was delivered but not read.

I suspect I've been blocked because of my regular Women's Rights emails to my MP (who always replies "but what about the poor men in frocks") but does anyone know how to find out for sure whether you've been blocked by your MP?

moto748e · 15/06/2026 10:59

Samantha Niblett MP (no, me neither) has signed Nadia Whittome's idiot EDM, and says

...I don’t want in the future for people to look back and say I didn’t stand in solidarity with the trans community because the context isn’t there.
So I have signed. This is a hill I am prepared to die on.
I wasn’t old enough or politically involved to fight against section 28, but I am an MP now and I want to be on the right side of history.

She actually says, TRSOH! I thought it was a spoof at first. Is she just very dim?

ArabellaScott · 15/06/2026 11:08

Yes.

ArabellaScott · 15/06/2026 11:10

They pretty much openly say they know it won't have any effect so are signing it as performative gesture.

A hill she's prepared to die on. Good grief. Men using women's toilets is a bloody weird hill to die on, but she's made her choice.

Nothungrycat · 15/06/2026 12:54

My Lib Dem MP has signed. Last time I wrote to her on the subject, she said there was a need for guidance from the EHRC about the Supreme Court clarification of the law. I've now pointed out that the guidance has now arrived, and the fact that she & other Lib Dems were disagreeing with it seemed to imply that they really weren't happy with the law - in which case it would be a more honest approach to call for a change in the law? I'm looking forward to her reply which will inevitably include reference to her trans family member. It's a shame as she's a pretty good constituency MP otherwise. And the only alternative in this constituency would be Green, which is frankly worse!

She is very much like the main character from 'Amandaland' played by Lucy Punch.

If you watch clips of her with the sound off - totally self absorbed and vacuous.

That's interesting same experience for me. My MP is Zoe Franklin and I have emailed her in the past re women's rights issues - pretty frequently, but always polite and courteous and not at an obsessive level of frequency.

My husband and I both wrote separate emails last week re her signing the EDM, he got both an auto reply and a full (nonsense) reply. I got zilch.

So like you I've been wondering if I've been blocked! If I find out for sure I'll let you know... Or perhaps anyone else can advise how to find out if MP has blocked?

'The Labour MP has caught attention by saying she wants to bring sex toys into parliament but argues it's to get people talking about sex education and the need for more of it 'We are seeing such frightening things happening with violence against women and girls where sex is being used in an oppressive way as a weapon... we need to take the shame out of sex''

Sex toys to combat VAWG?!

Fuck me these people's brains have been addled. What is she basing this batshittery on? Sponsorship by Ann Summers?

Watching that with the sound off was hilarious not only for hearing Nibblett in Amanda's voice, but the facial expressions of the woman interviewing.

Pure comedy. It has to be a spoof.

" Have you read "The Handmaid's Tale"?
" Oh, I just love anything that's hand-made"

ArabellaScott · 15/06/2026 22:23

I'm still just trying to get a look at how sex toys are supposed to combat VAWG. Is she honestly suggesting that fewer sexual inhibitions mean that men are less likely to abuse or rape women?

What is the fucking logic, here?

God knows. Logic is not strong with this sort of idiot. They think sexual assault is about sex, rather than power.

Shortshriftandlethal · 16/06/2026 09:06

The myopic over-focus on people being challenged when entering toilets.......when the obvious solution, and one which has been detailed in both the original ruling and in the guidance, is to create on additional 'gender neutral' facility, or to maintain single occupancy facilities that are open for everyone to use.

Hopefully, all sensible organisations will take appropriate legal advice and just get on with it in the same way just get on with taking into account having to provide disabled accesss and facilities.
