New thread. You know the deal - women's pub, men to the Staunch Ally next door.

Some of us are currently on the trail of an international seed smuggling ring, just for background information.

I have watched Ladies First on Netflix so you don’t have to.

”Red” Tennant (David Tennant’s son, Wilfred) plays Rosamund Pike’s daughter, Charlie. Red identifies as non-binary apparently.

It’s a cheap joke that a sexist man ends up in a world where women are in charge and returns to the male world changed and no longer sexist.

And the only reason I watched was because Rosamund Pike, Harriet Walter and Charles Dance were in it.

I have a rule not to watch Sacha Baron-Cohen and I broke it because I didn’t realise it was him. Idiot.

Don’t bother.

Edited

Not Harriet Walter, Fiona Shaw.

The Worm That Turned?

Yes that was noted in the Guardian’s review.

Swashbuckled · 09/06/2026 19:20

I tend to always stick to the same style of clothes. Jeans or combats, long sleeved top and fuck-off very chunky DM boots. Quite pirate like.

I remember the worm that turned. I’ve brought it up in pub chats with the overbearing types a few times over the years. Just to see them go pale at the thought.

I never take my top off to remove my bra - isn't that normal?

Are other women taking their blouses or T shirts or jumpers off and not just sliding the straps down their arms and tanking the bra out of the neck hole??
Have I been doing it wrong since I was 15?

You are right, @PastaAllaNorma - I was trying to be clever.

Marie, you wouldn't know any lawyers in Ireland for this thread, would you?

I saw that, Angle, thank you, and my heart leapt at the idea that somebody here intends bringing a challenge against our awful gender laws.

Unfortunately, I have no contacts in the legal world - I was abroad for 30 years and don't have many contacts with anything here any more! - but I may DM the poster to see if I can do a bit of 'gardening' or something useful..

We need to repatriate Helen Joyce, and both Naomi Cunningham and Maeve Halligan [Cambridge Soc.of Women] qualify to play for Ireland under the grandparent rule, and of course there's Arklow's own Róisín Murphy... a dream team! Grin

One of my parlour tricks is taking off my bra without taking off my top. I don’t do it any more, because I need a bra on all day, otherwise I trip over my norks.

I've seen that done. I don't believe it's physically possible, even though I've seen it done. It has to be some form of sorcery, surely....🤔
😁

I must say, I love Ireland, the little I have seen of it (Dublin and Dun Laoghaire and Howth, then Galway for a while). It's so beautiful, but I haven't been very often in the past 40 years because it just feels like spending a lot of money to go stay in a cottage just up the valley, or on The Mumbles. It just looks so much like Wales 😁I feel ridiculous that I haven't spent more time in Ireland.

But, I am so glad I live in the UK right now! I wouldn't even go back to the US unless forced to. But, I'm sorry about the state of women's rights in Ireland.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/06/2026 20:46

I'm currently on my MP's Facebook page (he's gay, out and very trans- supportive) trying to, as politely as I can, put the case for single sex spaces. Two annoying men arguing with me, almost 40 women have liked my submission.

But I need to step away.

Boiledbeetle · 09/06/2026 20:46

I've mislaid my Highland cows.

That’s why you need a spare pair.

I can do this. There’s a great example in Flashdance where she does it.

Essentially a bra is a strip of material, so one it’s undone, it can be pulled through a sleeve.

I need large sleeves to do this.

Chickadeeinme · 09/06/2026 21:21

AngleofRepose · 09/06/2026 15:58

Yes, pants/knickers-I seem to have lost the ability to call trousers pants now. Just makes me giggle immaturely! The rubber thing I had completely forgotten about... yeah, must've been a bummer for him 😁

I do still say trash and sidewalk and blocks (for distance), but I can mix it up with the "proper words" seamlessly. It's like being bilingual. And I can swear pretty well in "English" and Welsh, but I don't do a lot of swearing anyway (maybe at the radio sometimes).

I am also bilingual in American and English these days, though I still have to do a bit of internal translation sometimes before I speak and I'm still inclined to use Britishisms that I don't know are Britishisms until somebody looks puzzled.

Of course the menz are banging on about toilets, but as soon as I mention Katie Dolatowski my post appears not to show.

Still flying the TERF flag.

I was almost convinced by 'a bra is a strip of material'... but the straps! how do you account for the straps!
No, sorry, it's sorcery and that's that!😁

I’ve been arguing with my MP about that over Facebook too. She’s thoroughly annoying.

Same here. It's a weird thing: I think that when I speak, I sound just like everyone else around here, but they think I sound like I just stepped off the boat! I just don't hear it myself anymore, I guess.

Do you mind if Kitty keeps the pair you left on the boat, Boily? She’s taken a fancy to them.
