New thread. You know the deal - women's pub, men to the Staunch Ally next door.

Some of us are currently on the trail of an international seed smuggling ring, just for background information.

I have missed so much (apart from my virtual self in Myrtle story line)

had lot of real life challenges that has kept me away from the pub.

My nephew is making excellent progress, but i fear will be permanently physically disabled.

anyway gonna try and get back into the swing of things.

Sooo @Boiledbeetle giz a snowball or two

Sorry to hear that your DN will not make a complete recovery physically, but I hope he gets as well as he possibly can beFlowers

Thanks for the support - I have no idea what I said that could possibly be construed as patronising, and I hadn't disagreed with the poster in any way, so it's a mystery. Or maybe it was just what Boily said!
But I didn't want to seem defensive, [one of my major flaws, I've been told...more than once... by more than one woman: getting defensive instead of admitting I'm in the wrong😒] so I said sorry anyway.

Whatever it was that the bargerbils mixed for me earlier, it worked, I feel better nowSmile

Nice to see you're back on dry land, Swash - you showed yourself to be such an impressive sea cap'n - few words, firm opinions, right decisions, correct course. And all that with such a motley crew, including some excitable rodents and a very bouncy dog!

I hope we'll all sleep as soundly as the gerbils tonight - it's been quite a day!
G'night all🌛

I missed being tucked in to bed. Or at least pretending I was asleep Marie xx

Morning all, I hope you all did the sleepy-gerbil thing last night, especially you HedgeySmile

I do my g'night posts at irregular intervals - I can't have you all becoming dependent on them, 'I'll never get to sleep tonight because Marie didn't post the nightly picture of a cute animal'Grin

EdithStourton · 04/06/2026 10:50

Just catching up from yesterday evening...

Marie, we know you much better than the internet stranger and we know you're never patronising. I've been called all sorts of things over the years on here, and they can sometimes sting - but I LOL when I was accused on FWR of being a Reform voter. It became an even bigger LOL when other posters waded in going, 'Wot? Edith? 😂😂😂.'

Maggers, I hope today is more restful than yesterday. Long days can be fulfilling, but they are ultimately exhausting - we all need time to recharge our batteries.

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/06/2026 11:36

I’m doing a long overdue spring clean on department accounts & permissions & who can access what & how. It involves a lot of bouncing between my phone & my computer setting up passkeys & authentication & whatnot.

Could the most organised gerbil come & give me a hand, & bring a big pot of coffee with her?

Thank you Edith, for those kind and wise wordsSmile

Kitty, I think the Giant Ghostly Wombat handles admin and accounts at the Bluey - not entirely sure about any of that, but I think so, so perhaps she could manifest herself and give you a hand? Or a 'hand', as she's a ghost.
[Don't ask, I don't know, I just go along with it cos it's all so much fun😂]

The gerbils are already out dispensing morning beverages and viennoiserie[s] to needy Stockingers - how are you today Magpie, feeling rested?

I saw a sign saying 'viennoiserie' in a supermarket here recently.
'Ha', I thought, 'tis far from viennoiserie ye were reared - PASTRIES was good enough before ye all started going on weekend breaks to Paris and getting notions'😄

EdithStourton · 04/06/2026 11:59

Empress, I see Geometry heading your way with a large coffee pot on a trolley, with a pint-sized mug next to it.

I suspect it's more than likely 'his' opinion. So, even less reason for it to get under your skin, as I believe that is their intention. That or they are as thick as shit.

Just repeat five times "people chat shit on the internet" then give it no more head space .

That sounds like the sort of tongue twister one shouldn’t attempt whilst pissed, @Boiledbeetle. Luckily the Bluestocking’s drinks cheer but do not inebriate.

@MarieDeGournay - I agree with everyone - you are definitely not patronising - you are lovely, and they are stoopid.

MyrtleLion · 04/06/2026 12:00

Didn’t get the job.

EdithStourton · 04/06/2026 12:01

Oh Myrtle!
I'm so sorry. You have so much guts and gumption - it's just not fair.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/06/2026 12:03

Ohhh no, @MyrtleLion - I am so sorry. I hope the right job comes up soon.

MarieDeGournay · 04/06/2026 12:06

So sorry to hear that, Myrtle.
It's terrible that nobody has picked up yet on all your skills and talents and experience and knowledge.

Take care of yourself Flowers

Chersfrozenface · 04/06/2026 12:07

Very sorry to hear about the job, @MyrtleLion.

PastaAllaNorma · 04/06/2026 12:25

Oh bugger, Myrtle. I'm sorry they were too dim to see your many talents.

Marie, you are the antithesis of patronising. That poster is a dingbat.

No2 son, MrPasta and I are heading to MrPastaSnr's for a few days. MIL has hospital appointments she needs to be taken to and I will continue the Un-Shittification of Dad's house because of feckless niece.

EdithStourton · 04/06/2026 12:40

Honestly, Myrtle, if I lived closer I'd make you a cake and bring it round...

Though it would have to wait till the howling gale and torrential rain died down a bit. I'm not going out in that unless I absolutely have to.

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/06/2026 13:02

Oh fuck @MyrtleLion, I’m so sorry. They have absolutely no idea what they’re missing out on.

If both Geometry & the Giant Ghostly Wombat can give me a hand, that would be really helpful.

Magpiecomplex · 04/06/2026 13:05

MyrtleLion · 04/06/2026 12:00

Didn’t get the job.

Bugger, bugger and bugger again. Sending you sympathy 🐪💐

Slept pretty well, thanks @MarieDeGournay
Then spent all morning marking and supervising students catching up on late work.

@MyrtleLion I don't know what it is that you and I'm not asking, hopefully this will be one of those situations where disappointment is followed by a much better opportunity than the job you didn't get. I'm sorry, they didn't deserve you anyway.

MarieDeGournay · 04/06/2026 14:28

In an ideal world, our dear Myrtle would become a famous children's author, with a series of books about the adventures of Gosie the Gerbil, films, merch, theme parks, everything. And she'd check in on her old pals in the Bluey from her yacht in the Caribbean...

Hugs and sympathies @MyrtleLion. They clearly don’t recognise a good thing when it’s in front of them.

DauntlessDamson · 04/06/2026 15:10

Really sorry to hear about the job MyrtleFlowers
I know it's no consolation but the employment market is in dire straits at the moment, so I hope you won't take it personally. There are just so many applicants for each post.

AsWithGlad · 04/06/2026 15:45

Very sorry to hear that about the job, Myrtle.
