I think people like this genuinely believe they are being wronged by disbelief despite the thing being disbelieved not actually being, y'know, true.

I think the - well, not logical, but emotional chain of reasoning is something like:

This thing could have happened. It didn't, but it could have. So my story of a thing that didn't happen but could have still counts as proof it can happen. And not believing my lie that I suffered a thing is morally the same as not believing an actual victim of the thing. Are you monsters happy now? Are you proud that you have caused a thing that we warned you would happen but didn't actually happen but could have to theoretically actually happen?

There is an easy to find Prevention of Future Deaths report for that (very vulnerable) person highlighted in the article. It doesn't even mention they are trans so I don't know how anyone can conflate their death with a lack of PBs/CSHs/gender affirming care.

One of the features? tactics? of TRAs seems to be to keep their community in a constant state of hypervigilance:
Everybody hates them.
They are being genocided.
They are being silenced by the media.
They are more likely to be attacked/murdered.
If they aren't allowed use the ladies, they have nowhere to pee.
They are the most marginalised in society.
They have higher rates of suicide.

A quick fact-check would suffice to disprove these, but the last thing the trans movement wants is facts - feelings, falsehoods and fear are more powerful tools for maintaining an atmosphere of martyrdom.

A small nitpick - aiui trans people are at a higher risk of suicide. The falsehood is that medical intervention reduces the risk - it actually seems to increase it.
