The Story so Far

Part 1

The first thread
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5400132-glp-are-going-after-sarah-philmore-and-are-going-to-lose?page=1

Get the popcorn folks. GLP is getting ready to lose again.

They are going after barrister Sarah Phillimore for referring to a man as a man. They think they are going to lawfare her into silence.

Her blog:
Here we are now: Entertain us
I have had now 7 years and counting of the various tactics used to 'silence' those who won't comply with prevailing orthodoxy. How are those tactics holding up?
https://sarahphillimore.substack.com/p/here-we-are-now-entertain-us?

The only thing is other TAs have already tried this on Phillimore multiple times.

They went to the Bar Council their claims were dismissed. They all failed. More to the point this ‘Kate’ is the same guy complaining again who already failed. Sarah Phillimore knows the law and likes explaining it to TAs and making them lose. So she doesn't even resent the attempt.

As Sarah has stated "They pick on someone who not only enjoys this but has now a vast repository of knowledge about the law in this area."

Part 2

So the Fox Basher decided to tell massive lies about Sarah Phillimore now he faces a defamation action.

GLP's case against Sarah rested on evidence from "Kate" and this turned out to be the infamous man in a dress Sophie Sparkles. A guy who was too obnoxious, chaotic and threatening even for the Scottish Greens to tolerate. Even for someone as incompetent as the Fox Basher this plan seemed particularly bad.

A band of helpful gardeners assembled and planted a lot of seeds and soon Sarah's garden was blooming.

Sarah assembled a huge dossier of evidence about Sparkles showing his instability. She carefully built up her case using her excellent legal skills.

After giving the Fox Basher plenty of time to apologise Sarah took action for defamation in December and her blog outlines the story so far nicely:

Letter before Action
I publish here my letter to Jolyon Maugham. There is no freedom of speech to tell harmful lies about others.

For the background to all of this, please see my response to the complaint of the Good Law Project which they made to the Bar Standards Board on August 26 2025. Shortly after this complaint, Mr Maugham chose to assert to his many followers online that I had ‘led a campaign of harassment’ so wicked that it led a trans identifying man to attempt suicide. I deal with that claim at some length in my response. It is not true.

I asked via email on 30 August 2025 for Maugham to delete, apologise and make a donation of £5K to For Women Scotland. His refusal came a few days later in a series of videos posted to TikTok and Instagram where he was clearly excited about the (false) idea that JK Rowling would be joining me in legal action against him. Being able to tell his followers that he faced attack by the Nasty Billionaire Transphobe would clearly have more cachet and would attract more funds to the Good Law Project than a much less sexy tussle with a junior provincial barrister.

I am sorry to disappoint Mr Maugham. It’s just me. Well me, and the so far 990 very generous people who have helped me raise the money to be able to even contemplate this kind of legal action. My grateful thanks to every one of them. I do not think that anyone has ‘freedom of speech’ to tell harmful lies about another person and certainly not a senior member of a regulated profession, who will rely on his status to give his words power and cause harm.

https://sarahphillimore.substack.com/p/letter-before-action

Now the Bar Standards Board has decided that Sarah has no case to answer and released a letter explaining how the GLP had failed again. Details here:

Right Here. Right Now.

Another stunning technical victory for the Good Law Project shows that sanity is being restored to the public debate about gender identity, slowly but ever so surely.

On 27 March 2026 I received the welcome and to be honest not entirely expected news that the Bar Standards Board was not going to investigate further the complaint of the Good Law Project against me on behalf of trans identifying man Euan Weddell, aka Sophie Molly/Sparkles.

https://sarahphillimore.substack.com/p/right-here-right-now

GLP are planning to release a statement which will no doubt spin what has happened as much as possible in its usual style.

Will the Fox Basher's long history of misogynistic hatred for any women who has knowledge about biology and legal incompetence come back to haunt him again?

If he is defeated it will be a warning to all TAs that this type of bigotry and massive lies are not going to be accepted legally in a country where women and men are legally equal.

Whatever happen's Sarah's bravery once again will pay a significant part in restoring a world in which discussing the reality of the existence of male and female human beings is accepted.

Her garden still needs more plants, and harvest so far has been excellent and you can keep watching this thread for more proof of that.

I’m not surprised in the least that one of our sneering ploppers blatantly advertising his misogyny via sexualised violent rhetoric. He can go fuck himself.

I saw a clip of Polanski yet again criticising JKR claiming she punches down of trans people. Not for a second can he understand the impact on being on the receiving end of a constant barrage of graphical violent abuse. A few sarcastic responses is not punching down. The type of people who are capable of writing such violent posts should be vilified , the type of brain that is capable of imaging such acts belong to people who should be shamed.

All responses feed into the greedy hunger for attention.
The more revolting and violent a person's behaviour on social media, the greater the response. Behavioural psychology shows that any response, any attention, to any behaviour, feeds and increases that behaviour. I find it almost sickening. I am coming round to thinking that all of the horrible violent statements by so-called trans women are instigated by porn, too. I think porn is at the root of all of this horror. It is followed quickly by misogyny, coarsening behaviour, DARVO, gaslighting, and hatred of women.

Wouldn't it be nice if this weren't so.

DrudgeJedd · 04/04/2026 12:55

I think it's very interesting that there has been no acknowledgement yet from JM about Sarah's X thread about his family. It's been known for a few years that Grin from Trans Kids Deserve Better is his daughter but not really talked about while she was under 18.
If this is examined as part of the defamination case are there are going to be a few lawyers & journalists required to come clean about their involvement with the Maugham family?
Last year the GLP instructed Adam Wagner & Doughty St. to act on their behalf to fight against an injunction that the landlord of Tintagel House (where EHRC has offices) tried to get to stop TKDB camping on their doorstep.
The GLP claimed that they acted for "persons unknown" which was obviously a massive lie because there are photos of Grin at the protest, even masked up they very are recognisable.

@knittedsloth i hadn’t consciously thought of it that way but you are absolutely correct. It’s attention seeking and spiralling to more and more extremist language to get more attention.

Constant access to the internet and the associated access to pornography has desensitised a huge number of people who now display behaviours publicly that previously would have been hidden away.

lcakethereforeIam · 04/04/2026 13:07

I read an article earlier today about stalking. I'm not posting because it's a massive derail. There seems to little to nothing the victims of most stalkers can do to get them to stop. Ignoring them seems to just make them angry. The relatively sane ones anyway. The truly delusional will put their own spin on anything the victim of their attention does.

I often think how the police (of old) would have explained the concept of flashing, and how that links to such online performance. It's about the excitement of picking the audience, causing shock, horror, disgust, all seeking of attention and power, and a well known classic starting point for escalation.

…and the horror of what some end up doing via that process of escalation as they discover that the activities that once resulted in the thrill no longer produces that reaction.

Phillimore will at some point, be told she should just ignore this behaviour, because acknowledging it only encourages at some point.

Because this seems to be a pattern where women are told they shouldn't draw attention to the threats and by doing so they are somehow inflaming the problem and encouraging it.

We've seen this pattern a few times now.

The spiral is still increasing though and every time authority steps in to acknowledge, yes there is a problem and women are justified in what they are saying, the threats get worse.

I still think we are on track for a significant incident in the UK which will be a clear act of extremist behaviour. The government do not want to acknowledge the existence of left wing incelism.

It is a really difficult bind. React - and that's wanted, and it will escalate in return.

Ignore - and it's taken for a win, and the escalation goes on, with women's silence being perceived as assent.

It's rather like the relational issues you get when engaging with the personality disordered or socially dysfunctional - you can't use the usual social contracts. Being the bigger person requires a communication partner able to perceive that - as opposed to someone with distorted social and emotional perception who sees it as weakness to exploit. It's very frequent that transactivist politics has taken strong and intentional advantage of people with morals, ethics and values by exploiting what they see as this weakness - the words 'kind' and 'inclusion' are there solely to manipulate hence the lack of any reciprocation and bafflement that there should be some.

Unfortunately Philipson appears to be playing this game too with her 'thinking very carefully about how to implement the SCJ and protect women's single sex spaces', which is holding people with good faith and trust in her in place and not doing anything to interrupt her, while she does her absolute best with the time this allows her to change or fiddle the law to be able to harm women and their spaces without annoying things like 'rights' or women's voices getting in the way.

Absolutely. The chasing of the dragon.

Police would also talk about the testing the waters and every time no boundary is encountered, no consequences happen, there's encouragement to push a little bit further.

Yes. Perhaps the activity known as flashing is also a part of this pornification of social media behaviour. As I am quite old now, some years ago I was surprised but not shocked to discover that most of the women I knew or spoke to had seen a flasher. It was so common people didn't bother mentioning it. I was flashed at once when I was very young, maybe about four, and even at that age I could not understand why the man showing me his penis was so interested in what it looked like because I was not interested and didn't care.

And it goes without saying that it's not all men. Rather a stupid phrase really. But those men who do indulge in this harmful stuff are the ones we are up against. Cosplaying as a woman for sexual gratification is the wearisome "latest thing". I don't care what they do in private. I don't care who they say they are. I just don't want it foisted on me.

💯

this all day long. I once spent an increasingly horrifying morning with a child safeguarding expert who described to the audience the escalation concept where he used the illustration of a hurdle.

How abusers test the boundaries and if they experience no resistance or pushback they go over that hurdle and move on to the next. It’s not shame about what they are doing that stops them but it’s fear of the consequences if they get caught. Eventually the fear reduces as the desire to act gets stronger so the hurdle shrinks and over they go to the next hurdle and so on and so on….

knittedsloth · 04/04/2026 16:49

@SternJoyousBeev2: Eventually the fear reduces as the desire to act gets stronger

Therefore with the reward, the relief, that sexual activity brings, the desire to act, to self-stimulate, overwhelms all the built-in safeguards of any kind of moral doubt or of fearing the consequences. Pleasure-seeking is all.

It's so wicked, deliciously forbidden and compelling to the sexual predator/abuser as they reach that stage. Their actions, speech and behaviour also hold power over others, another aphrodisiac drug. In addition, there may be drug and alcohol misuse, magnifying the predator's sense of omnipotence. Their presence online, throughout social media, is powerful and damaging to all of us.

We must not give up. We stand together, and our voices will be heard.

Helleofabore · 04/04/2026 17:07

Wasn’t it interesting how the BSB letter mentioned Waddel’s own voilent statements… and yet we have another male person making violent statements, trying to justify those statements as Waddel tried to as well, all while complaining of harassment as an individual or collectively?

And they then wonder why the BSB found nothing that Sarah should answer for.

These male people continue the pattern and then wonder why the general public support their demands less and less. They wonder why people point out the violence, the menace and the intimidation of their behaviour and reject their demands.

I very much hope Aida's wife is able to access support. Should she ever make her way to this website, there will be plenty of women happy to listen, able to signpost to solid and trustworthy organisations that can help.

Posting the pics I have seen which seem to be kissing (that are popping up on twitter) but in a way that seems far more performative and controlling than anything else, seems to add to the red flags that are already flying.

It reminds me of the pics Lavery used to post of Daniel.

One of the examples used in the presentation was a youth leader ( I want to say a scout leader but I cannot be 100% on that). His tactic was to isolate his victim from the rest of the group first to make the child vulnerable. He planted a £5 note in the bag of his chosen victim and then made a big thing of £5 being missing. He insisted on the boys opening their bags to be searched. All the boys did this willingly because they all knew they hadn’t stolen anything. So when the money was found in one boy’s bag that boy became untrustworthy in the eyes of the rest of the group. Inevitably when the abuse started who would believe the boy who steals?

Sorry for the derail but this has taken me back to some of my safeguarding training and experience of reviewing incidents. Graphically violent and/or sexualised language should never be swept under the carpet; and stating that humans cannot change sex and transwomen are men us neither is not violence and us no way comparable.

So Alex Horwood / ‘Lynsay Watson’ has waded in now? The recently arrested ‘Lynsay Watson’?

Oh thank you for saying that about the performative appearance of the photos.

Superficially a spontaneous loving act but obviously posed with someone there to take the photo - so a more controlled and curated image than first glance.

But then I remember all the threatening and scary stuff that man comes on here to post. And how much time he spends here trying to upset people. The endless arguing and attempts to control all of us. The opposite of just living his life quietly.

So looking again it seemed to me that the person on the left of the pic was being held in an awkward pose by a large controlling male. The pose seems to benefit him amd not so much his partner.

The more I looked the less loving I saw - i hope she is ok.
