Unbelievable!

Jordan Gray (remember "she" played the piano with "her" penis) has been nominated for Best Female Comedy Appearance for Transaction.

Isn’t that, what’s the word I’m thinking of…, dodgy?

A self serving conflict of interests. Yes.

MrsToddsShortcut · 11/03/2026 15:16

Is the RTS governed by EA2010? I know they are as an employer but I can’t find any information about how actual award categories and nominations fit into that? I wonder whether they just haven’t thought about it, or don’t think it applies to them or (most likely) just don’t care?

I couldn't find anything either. For casting I think they can require a female under 'occupational requirement', but often they don't now. They just ask for 'female presenting'. It's all just pretend anyway. The only way for this to be tested I guess would be for someone like Brendon O'Carroll to challenge why he couldn't also be in that female category. (JG has already blown out the water that's anything to do with being funny).

I'm not sure about the RTS, but for other awards individuals are submitted for consideration in particular categories - rather than being randomly picked. That's why you often get the 'who is a supporting actor' questions. Presumably then Gray was submitted into the female category.

CapacityBrown · 10/03/2026 12:57

Regardless over the debate over his placement in the female category. The clips of the show I've seen were awful and his acting was poor. Shouldn't be nominated in any category.

It's not nominated for the actual comedy, but for the "bravery" and "brilliance".

Men are much better women than women could be, don't you know?

Separating out prizes eg into best actress etc is considered OK because we've always done it (and the more categories the more hoo-ha!) but also I think s158 applies because it boosts representation of participants (by protected characteristic) who might otherwise be underrepresented. I'd argue that applying restrictive criteria to men, but not to women, for entry in this category is sex discrimination.

And suddenly it all becomes clear!

Ding!

Womanofcustard · 12/03/2026 09:00

I would like Brendan O’Carroll to be given a ‘woman’s’ award!

Marina Hyde, at the time of the Emilia Perez hooha, made the point that in a still-sexist and male-dominated industry, the Best Actress/supporting categories are the only ones where you'll definitely see a female winner. Much of the rest is sausagefest.

Written about in the Telegraph

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/03/12/trans-inclusive-feminism-no-sense-tv-awards/

From the article

The celebrity world, as we all know, is filled with famous women who proudly proclaim their support for gender ideology. But will they be feeling quite so inclusive now that they’ve seen this shortlist?

After all, Gray’s place on the four-person female shortlist could have gone to a performer who is actually female. And if you were a female performer who’d missed out, wouldn’t you find this a touch unfair?

Obviously the views of the woman who was bumped off the list to include this man are unknowable. I've no idea what the other nominees think about GI. Whether they 'Yay! Go Qween!', secretly fuming or just couldn't give a toss about awards. I do know that even if they're secretly GC they'd probably not dare say a word about it.

If Mr Gray had the slightest sliver of conscience he'd withdraw from the nomination; for his own dignity because he's not female (and imo this exposure does the trans 'community' 🙄 no favours) and because by all accounts his show was rubbish and deserves no awards...perhaps a wooden spoon.

Another mediocre male who has to get his kit out to compensate for lack of talent.

Getting your kit out in public = indecent exposure. I don’t understand why he wasn’t arrested. Is it because he said the magic, crime-erasing phrase “I identify as a woman”?

It wasn't in public, it was on a TV show that had various viewer warnings.

RoyalCorgi · 12/03/2026 12:09

The hope has to be that it will peak more people. I'm sure it will. It may even peak some of the women who work in the entertainment industry - because surely they can see that in an industry that already favours men, this is taking even more opportunities away from women?

The interesting element of this is that Gray seems to be almost universally regarded as a poor actor in an unfunny sitcom. If he'd been supremely talented and acting in an uproariously funny sitcom, his nomination would still have been wrong, of course, because as a man he has no place on the women's category shortlist. But it does seem to be adding insult to injury - as if to say "female comic actors are so useless that even this pathetic man is better than you are".

One good thing is that hopefully this will peak a few luvvies - I wonder who lost out to Jordan?

Yes, and a lot of comedians/creatives generally are, or have been so far, very keen to be seen to be supporting the trans. I am interested to know what people like Rosie Jones think of it.

This guy is a raging AGP and a predator.
I cannot understand how any woman would want to be with a man like this.
It beggars belief.
I can only imagine childhood trauma on both sides.

Is he?
I'm not disagreeing, I genuinely don't know anything about him. Is there info out there about this?

He's a heterosexual male with a girlfriend.

OK, maybe being a heterosexual male with a girlfriend and writing about this stuff makes him an AGP (again I'm not disagreeing, just don't actually know what makes an AGP), but what I'm asking is how is he a predator? What's he done?

This is been studied extensively - for example in Heterosexual and Homosexual Gender Dysphoria (87), Blanchard found that for adult, transexual identified individuals, some history of fetishistic arousal was acknowledged by over 80% of heterosexual males, compared to fewer than 10% of homosexual males and no homosexual females.

Thank you. So did you mean he's a predator BECAUSE of the AGP?

I don't personally consider AGP equal to being a predator, and certainly Blanchard's research doesn't support that.

I was asking about Torrey Peters, not Jordan Gray.

ConstanzeMozart · 12/03/2026 13:59

Well, I would argue that it's subjective. It doesn't seem beyond the pale to call someone who engages in fetishistic public exhibitionism a predator. I'm not aware of other charges that go beyond indecent exposure.

My personal view is that Jordan is obviously AGP and that his performance was in poor taste, but that bad art, even very offensive art, doesn't in itself make someone predator. However, I'm also willing to accept others have different views on that and I think it's important to put the behaviour in the proper frame of it being a distinctly male sexual display.
