Yet more Reddit censorship (women’s lib sub banned)

The Women’s Liberation subreddit has been banned and deleted. I suppose it was only a matter of time. The fourth wave women sub is clinging on but who knows for how long.

Reddit is such a pathetic mess of cowardly misogynists

unwashedanddazed · 26/02/2026 12:39

So it was banned for violating Rule 1:
"Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned."

Have they seen the way women are talked about across trans reddit? Their blindness to the way actual women are treated blows my mind. Currently wanging on about how bigoted Brighton women are for needing female save spaces when there is gone of provision for trans women. Idiots.

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2026 12:40

Reddit is full of MRAs and incels. Ultimately.

TheFilliesWillRiseAgain · 26/02/2026 12:42

Reddit is a cesspit of far left men's rights activists.

The fact that Google keeps using it for its results means I now use AI for searches

Just to say: I put -ai on my Google searches because I believe that's better for the environment. You could also use -reddit that way, if you liked.

I meant if I want to search for something I now just ask AI the question, and get a specific answer.

Ironically Gemini is far better at this than a Google search.

ChatGPT used to be the best but lately I've found Grok and Gemini to be the best two. Nothing obviously Reddity in the answers as well!

Fair enough, of course.

The -reddit may be helpful to people who don't want to use AI, though.

Yes - I didn't know you could do that. In fact, how do you do that? Is it something you write into the search box?

Yes

So you can either avoid a word by searching for e.g. women's rights -reddit or a site by searching women's rights -site:reddit.com. The second is probably a bit too much of a faff usually!

Banned subs aren't allowed to be resurrected under another time.

Since r/gendercritical was banned for hate, that means no one is allowed to make another sub that's all about being gender critical and give the sub a different name.

There are a number of popular feminist/women's rights subs on Reddit, but they aren't about trans people.

WatchingWong · 26/02/2026 13:54

Reddit is ridiculous. I was banned for hate speech because someone said that no one at all would benefit if men were banned from women's sports in the Olympics, and I replied that actually it would be good for women and girls who had worked hard to get where they were, because it would make competitions fair.

That's literally all I said, and they claimed it was hate speech!

Lovelyview · 26/02/2026 14:24

r/blockedandreported was pretty gender critical last time I looked. It is about the blocked and reported podcast. Ultimately the censorship will only do them harm because people will go elsewhere to discuss what's important to them.

How on earth does square ‘remember the human’ with also allowing multiple subreddits devoted to weird, degrading, derogatory pornography of women?!

As long as it centres the male gaze and the male orgasm then Reddit allows it 🤬

Christinapple · 26/02/2026 15:12

I haven't seen the "women's liberation" sub myself but from what people are saying it's clear it was an attempt to resurrect the banned r/gendercritical as it was about shit-talking trans people and nothing else. It also served as a fan club for JKR apparently with one of the sub rules demanding no one "disrespect" her. No disrepect for the Don, Jo!

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1pkcvcf/womens_liberation_subreddit/

"About 9/10 of all their posts are just rehashed transphobic articles and talking points. It’s really a bizarre feeling to have whole subreddits solely focused on trans exclusion, discrimination and scapegoating. so many of the posts are just screenshots of [JK Rowling's] stupid tweets."

And they say trans people are the most "Vulnerable and Marginalised"! 🙄 I was a member of r/gendercritical until the boys in charge decided they didn't like us women being able to discuss matters that actually affected us personally, rather than centring the most V & M in all things.

"being able to discuss matters that actually affected us"

What you mean is you are upset reddit isn't providing you with a space to shit-talk trans people?

I have seen other r/gendercritical resurrection attempts on reddit, some subs pretending to be about "lesbian rights", that have appeared on reddit and then get banned, and every single post on there is just hate towards trans people. The most common posts are hateful implications that every trans person is a sex offender/potential sex offender, posts with a strange fixation on toilets or sick "jokes" about suicide. The usual "tropes".

I do like it when such subs appear and I can take a look before they get banned. It means a lot of homophobes and transphobes in one place so I can report them all in just a few minutes (hate and threats are against the rules on reddit) then watch my notifications that come over the next few days letting me know the users were getting temp or perma bans.

Shedmistress · 26/02/2026 16:13

I do love how these blokes prove our point every time. They just cannot stop themselves.

Don't worry it just took a few mins and seeing the notifications coming in later that the users (and later the sub) were wiped from the face of Reddit was worth it. I helped make Reddit a less hateful place.

It works, because I lasted only a couple of days on Reddit before being banned. The guardian I was around longer but was also permanently banned from there for GC posts.

But ultimately this manufactured echo chamber is self defeating. When you talk to a lot of broadly left leaning people who have only been exposed to the reddit/guardian view of these issues, and you engage them in debate, they lose and lose badly because they have zero understanding of the GC point of view.

I helped make Reddit a less hateful place even more of an echo chamber than it already is

And people try and tell us MN is an echo chamber!

ProfessorLadyDrKeenovay · 26/02/2026 16:50

@Christinapple, from my own experience you don't need to be "shit talking" trans people to get banned from trans subs. A kind, carefully worded comment which implies you're not 100% TWAW for all purposes and circumstances can get you banned. And lesbian subreddits are constantly under attack, if their definition of lesbianism excludes men.

Subreddits like transgenderuk have become extreme echo chambers with only rare dissenting voices. I appreciate trans people want a supportive space where they don't need to justify their existence to random passers-by, but a complete lack of dialogue around hot topics such as trans inclusion in sport, can't be a good thing.

The trigger-happy mods exclude moderate, sympathetic voices, and with them, the possibility of reaching rational compromises or changing minds, on both sides. It's a good thing to stress-test and reality-check one's arguments.
