Previous thread:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5457910-the-bluestocking-next-stop-christmas

As the patrons, and gerbils, of The Bluestocking Pub sleep off their Christmas Day food and alcohol intake the capybaras will be getting paid double time to move the pub and contents to the new thread overnight.

All welcome, as long as you are a woman. The men have their own pub The Staunch Ally. It's just down the road, then turn left at the bridge.

You don't have to be mad to drink here but it most definitely helps.

Leave the real world behind and join us in the mayhem and surreal life of a pub staffed by gerbils. Where the food is always exactly what you ordered and the drinks don't give you a hangover the next day!

Othello or Prada for me.

@Swashbuckled in my dream last night it was revealed to me that if you want to buy eggs at the supermarket you now have to take your birth certificate with you so be warned.

The dream world of Bluestockingers is interesting!

Mine are almost always about cities, and public transport, trains and trams not buses. Boring in comparison😒

Swashbuckled · 03/01/2026 14:45

A couple of nights ago I dreamt that I had aged visibly. To the point of not recognising myself in the mirror when someone showed me my reflection. I had a completely different face along with a straight bob, which isn’t my thing. My jowls had very deep lines. My face was a different shape. I tried finding myself in my eyes but didn’t even recognise those either.

MyrtleLion · 03/01/2026 15:09

I went for Othello and £79 in row K. Right in the middle. PJ Harvey has written the score. It should be good.

RandomHypatia · 03/01/2026 15:10

Go for Othello.

I also love flexitubs and have 3 in our garden shed that are used for lots of things. I bought a smaller one recently so my son has one too when he's helping with gardening.

RandomHypatia · 03/01/2026 15:13

My grandmother used to carry things in a stiffer version of a flexitub balanced on her head. I think she carried heavy loads this way until she was in her 90s. This wasn't in the UK -people look at you funny if you do that here

I was supposed to take the dressing gown off?

Bugger.

(AI has had a new year health and safety update! Grrrr)

Gosh, Boiley. Take it off before you proceed to the wrapping it in brown paper and ironing it stage.

I once read that words in dreams don't make sense and that what you see in dreams is just Gobbledygook (bit like AI 12 months ago). I have lucid dreams so that night I was dreaming and at one point I was just stood looking at all the signs around me that were in perfect English thinking well that was a lie.

Thankfully I did!

The freezer much assisted with the scraping using a teaspoon. I then progressed onto the ironing with brown paper and kitchen roll (used both). Then finished off with some washing up liquid.

I could probably have got more out at the ironing stage but it's only a knackered dressing gown so I'm not that precious about it.

It's currently in the washing machine.

I shall report back with the final result at some point.

If it was candlewick that might explain how the whole problem started. It was just trying to find its people.

Well it won't get another chance. I have very wisely changed the location of the wax melt thingy.

Thanks for the wax removal advice. I have a t-shirt that's been waiting to be dealt with, since I thought it would be a good idea to double fill the top of a wax burner & later blow out its tealight: cue wax everywhere. Scraping it off the table & items on the table was easy, but the t-shirt has defeated me - until now.

Honestly, the dressing gown has been sat in the box of things that need sorting out for a good while now. But in my never ending quest to sort my house today was the day to sort it!

Poor unfulfilled dressing gown.

I admire last year/this year's get up & go attitude, Boily. I myself am going to put down the Chromebook any minute now &... er... make some really nice coffee & froth some milk & probably forget about the t-shirt for now. And meanwhile try not to notice the piles of stuff to be dealt with. I need the OCD aunt on another thread who brings her own Dyson on social visits, but there's already a queue for her.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 03/01/2026 16:19

Gosh, this thread moves quickly sometimes!. Lots of great domestic advice today, including shower cleaning tips, how to grow potatoes in a bag-for-life and how to get wax out of clothes (good one that!)

Note to self: buy a supply of flexi-tubs next time I go to B&Q. I don't know what I will use them for, but I have a severe case of FOMO.

Me too, though first I have a hankering for a wheelbarrow, one of those untippable ones. I don't know why. I once bought a folding garden trolley on gumtree for about £2 & it's brilliant, re-purposed from social drinks dispenser to mobile potting area.

Sorry to sound like such a provincial --- there's a musical 'Othello'??

I wondered about that. Maybe it's just incidental music. I'd have chosen that one, just to see Toby Jones.

Swashbuckled · 03/01/2026 16:33

Me too; I assumed it was the Shakespeare play.
I wonder if they use the original soliloquies/dialogue for songs, or if they whoop it up.

We'll have to wait for Myrtle to see it & let us know. Or we could google it.

But DH has just made the coffee (so I haven't even done that today)...

lcakethereforeIam · 03/01/2026 16:38

What can't you use flexitubs for! I've just used one of mine to clean and disinfect some bird feeders. Me and fella popped to the garden centre earlier. They've got a big wooden thing for people to put unwanted plant pots in for recycling. Someone had left a flexitub! It's handles were broken but I wanted to grab it anyway. Fella wouldn't let me 😢
