The Bluestocking: it's the season of mulled wine, conversations about pineapple and, of course, gerbils. Confused? You will be...

Welcome to the anarchic and marvellous women-only on-line pub, the Bluestocking. The booze won't give you a hangover, the cakes won't make you fat, and the conversations are fascinating, covering knitting, health and safety, the Muppets and anything else that comes to mind.

Climb Peak Woo, have a cuddle with Rosie the Red Panda, and watch out for capybaras busy with any necessary building works.

Welcome in (and name change at the door if you need too).

@MarieDeGournay, I was trying to remember what your introduction to LEGS reminded me of. At first I thought it was from Alice in Wonderland and there is a connection but, with a little research I found this passage from Madam, Will You Talk, by Mary Stewart, who was one of my favourite authors when I was younger:

‘Probably the waiter will just introduce you at first, like Alice – Louise, biftek; biftek, Louise. Then you both bow, and the steak is ushered out.’

I think I mustered determination, rather than energy @Boiledbeetle

I did the cutting in, and thought I could see how I feel after that. But then did the rolling. I hate rolling. I like doing the woodwork with a brush though. I’ve washed the roller and brushes, had a shower, jarmies on. Feeling physically achey but then hard labour has helped me in the past. It’s my hands that bugger me now. Cuts from wallpaper stripping and grazes from sanding and just general odd stuff from gripping. I won’t be able to do any more for a few days so it made me feel a bit better. These walls will need LOTS of coats.

Hi to Legs and Crumble 🙂.

And thanks for all the well wishes for my return to work. I won’t be full time again until the Spring.

I figured you'd gone off to do a bit!

I miss decorating. Back in May 2009 I stripped the wallpaper in my bedroom, and started on the woodchip ceiling. Then had the mother of all fibromyalgia flare ups (didn't know I had it at the time) and came to a full halt. In 2010 I made a note on the wall that I really needed to decorate! 15 years later and the note is hidden by a wardrobe.

I really should just admit defeat and pay someone to do it, but that's admitting I'm no longer well enough to do it and I refuse to accept that!

'Android likes to experiment in the basement so just make sure you are of no interest to her.'

In her laboratory, please. Its exact location varies due to it feeding itself into the transporter &/or the time portal every so often. The fact that the transporter is inside the lab does nothing to prevent this. And I never experiment on fellow patrons or staff.

Well, not any more, eh Android? 😉

I found The Enchanted April on iPlayer & got all excited - but it's unavailable.🙄

Swashbuckled · 02/12/2025 21:06

Yes, I can’t yet bring myself to pay people to do things I can do myself, despite the time and effort. I’m sure that day will come though…

I on the other hand will do on the occasions Grenadine let's me borrow the staff master key to get into androids lab!

Margaret spends far too much time talking to herself about herself anyway.

Judging by the size of the key, Grenadine may need more than one gerbil.

So, if Margaret has three heads, but only two pairs of legs, what does that do to her interest in collecting sparkly things? x2, x3, or some weird fraction?

Hedgehogsrightsarehumanrights · 02/12/2025 21:40

Well i have a personal family thing going on so is tracked myself doing a bit of chimney cleaning.

i thought the dust was worse than it was because i didnt realise my glasses were full of dust.

having cleaned them i have concluded it was still a bad idea.

my eldest has eaten the spare tunnoks, her punishment is to recite chapters of material girls

The Bluestocking at the other end of that vortex was amazing!

Gerbils the size of Giant Wombat. Their Giant Wombat was the size of the empire state building. And the pygmy pigs were as tall as shire horses.

I barely escaped with my life never mind the key!

I did make the mistake of following the 'drink me' 'eat me' labels on things which may account for the size of me!

It’s tricky for her. She (let’s say Meg) steals from herself but then the other two (Peggy and Daisy) know where she’s hidden it.

(good thing there’s lots of different nicknames for a Margaret to occupy)

You all talk like blazes while I'm not here.
I've been out at choir practice and am knackered, so its hello and goodnight from the resident puffin.

Well, it’s all going to be done in the air fryer. I bought some sausages with black pudding in them (although tasty, the black pudding is more than subtle) and home made chips. Fried tomato. fried onion. Houmus. Pudding will centre on ice cream (it’s a thing lately).

Tell me more about these sausages with black pudding in them? DMiL does muffins containing a fried slice of black pudding wrapped in sausage meat for Sunday breakfast but this could be a wonderful elevation.

On other matters, are you making any progress on the wall at the small galleon?

AsWithGlad · 02/12/2025 22:48

I’ve been out at the dress rehearsal for a school musical. It wasn’t The Sound of Music, that was a few years ago. Fewer baddies but more deaths.
Cast and crew of thousands, and I am exhausted, too.

Hello and goodnight from a different bird, and a special welcome to Crumble.

That's so funny, Crumble! What a good memory you have to track it own so quickly.
I'm not familiar with Madam, Will You Talk, and I'm wonder in what context Louse is introduced to steak! I suppose having introduced legs to crumble, I'm in no position to comment on how odd it is😄

My welcomes are usually more prompt and Tiggerish but I'm a bit semi-detached from the Bluestocking at the moment because of Things.. Happily Hedgie was aroundSmile

Thank you for the link re Laura Knight, Errol, I look forward to finding out more about her.

G'night all, the Sleep Gerbils and Dream Gerbils are standing by 🌛
