NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #55

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence was 29 July 2025. It resumed again over 1 to 2 September for closing submissions.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February 2025. Sandie Peggie returned to give more evidence on 29 July 2025.

Probably. My old HR department once sent a disciplinary email to a friend on Xmas eve. Stay classy, HR.

Urgent problems always had a knack of surfacing around 4.00pm on a Friday meaning the poor sod on call over the weekend had to pick it up.

Oh, the clients who used to ring/email at 4.45 on a Friday after realising a piece of work needed to be on someone's desk at 9 on the Monday morning.

Sorry I completely missed this - yes agreed the crossover is v interesting! - the four Fidra Trustees seem to be 4 uni friends before becoming Trustees so the connections would probably be quite close.

A friend of mine worked in a civil service office where there was a rule that all desks had to be cleared by 5pm on Friday.
They used to get an internal circulation envelope, sweep all the papers off their desk into it, address to themselves, and put it in the internal post for delivery on Monday morning, when they would lay the papers back out on their desks😁

Yes, they can. I hope they do. The judgement looks very appealable to me.

If I was Big Sond I'd put my out of office on and THEN send out the judgment so that any replies are met with an automatic "No longer my circus, no longer my monkeys".

(Minus the circus/monkeys comment - although I have been tempted - this is what I do when I go on holiday to remove any hope or expectation that I'll do something with the email before I go )

I go one step further, I put my out of office on at lunch time and leave it on until the day after I return. I deliberately leave all shitty emails to do last and then log off as soon as they are sent. Christmas Eve emails are always particularly enjoyable.

I draft emails and only send them once the OOO is on. And I have been known to "accidentally" put my returning date for one day later than I'm actually away so I get catch up time during which no-one expects any responses!

Its funny how easy it is to forget to turn off the OOO.

Delayed delivery is a handy tool.

I like being able to send a version of OOO that says "this automated response has been sent from my iPad in Mauritius".
