I have several autoclaves, largest can take a 20 liter fermenter with all the attachments and they use a lot of energy. I wonder how much power you'd need to run them at that sort of scale. Also, you need to pressurize to at least 15 psi. I might have to listen to the interview tomorrow.

"I have several autoclaves, largest can take a 20 liter fermenter with all the attachments"

I have no words.

Literally.

How can anyone follow a sentence like that?

The Dr Dame in action. Yes!

I was a scientist in a micro lab and used an autoclave daily to kill off microbes. I cannot imagine a scenario where loads of general waste would be sent to a very large autoclave and end up as pellets for energy use. I just don’t imagine it. Autoclaves are steam equipment and they denature bacteria. (For complete disclosure i do have a microbiology degree) my other degrees are in other areas. I would never pretend to be something i am not.

Yeah, and if you put plastics in that aren't autoclave safe everything ends up as one big lump not pellets. There are also H&S concerns with pressurized equipment, our insurer insists on annual safety check by one of their engineers of our autoclaves.

rebax · 16/11/2025 22:11

Energy from Waste was a popular idea in the early 2000s and the autoclave idea may have been part of that. There were few actual successes and the main reason some were viable was Landfill Tax. Mixed waste has a lot of water which disappears when you heat it up; Landfill Tax is levied based on the weight of the material delivered; get rid of the water; Profit.😁

Still no evidence on where these pellets came from. The ash for cash pellets?

Haha, I'm in charge of a fully equipped micro, molecular biology and biochemistry lab, I've got stuff. My favourite (after the microscope) is my ancient rotary evaporator.

Feeling very inadequate because I don’t have any autoclaves.

Autoclaves are basically pressure cookers. If you have one of those you have a very basic autoclave.

Namechanged999999 · 16/11/2025 22:17

The pellets that were used by those in our government who were in the know to heat their barns and make money for them. And brought down Arlene fosters government. That’s definitely worth knowing.

i’m mostly interested as i am very gender critical. Therefore i believe strongly in single sex spaces. But this tribunal has drifted into very interesting territory. Very specific to Northern Ireland and the ‘way things are done here’. NC EV save us!! Make the laws the way they should be.

I think Re3 created the pellets from
waste so they would be the suppliers to the farmers who were burning such things in excess for subsidies.

However, given the brainiac scientists on here opening up the validity of the claims as to how these pellets were supposedly made it might all have been a scam? Ie fake pellets fakely burned for subsidies. They didn’t exist and were not burned, in effect, because deals were done to exploit loopholes. Perhaps also to access grants in addition to subsidies.

Some forensic accounting might be called for next!!!

Jenny Holland’s description suggests the panel could not have missed DB’s attitude and attempts to communicate with counsel. That’s bias and ground for appeal

Personally thinking JH is a frequent poster on this thread.

This is key to this trial:

16 April 2023 Sara Morrison says true things at Let Women Speak. An event that thinks its good for people to say true things out loud.

18 April 2023 Michele Devlin, the BFF CEO, posts a tweet celebrating a Good Friday Agreement event. A reply to that tweet alerts Devlin to Morrison’s participation in the LWS event. Devlin hides the reply.

4 May 2023 there is a quarterly BFF board meeting. No item is put on the agenda about LWS, but board member Lucy Baxter who turns up at the end of the meeting saying in local parlance ' whats the craic with yer wan?'

5 May 2023 Devlin updates the new co-chairs of the BFF (Marie-Therese McGivern and Lisa Barros D’sa), sending them a link to Morrison’s speech at LWS and reporting a conversation with Pedro Donald, owner of the Sunflower Pub, who asked Devlin “what is the BFF Inclusion Officer doing speaking at a rally with this far right-wing crowd?”

25 May 2023 Mark Cousins [wakes up from his fuge state of peace and love and forgiveness] expresses profound concern. He hasn't seen the video at this point. He tells the Court that that Sara is "dirty by association".

23 June 2023 Cousins has an encounter with Morrison in a bar during Docs Ireland. He is startled to find she is unrepentant about her speech at LWS (which he still hasn’t seen).

25 June 2023 Cousins contacts Devlin, writing: “There was no hint of regret for, or doubt about, what she did.

And since he is all about forgiveness he adds - “we need to accelerate the process by which this is sorted… We can’t have an inclusion/diversity officer who, many weeks after making such an ill-advised speech, is still standing by her actions completely."

In case Devlin keeps failing to care very much - Cousins makes his views known to the co-chairs.

28 June 2023- secret squirrel meeting with Devlin and her two lady bosses. No one keeps minutes or can remember (according to evidence) Bangin governance ladies!

29 June 2023 Devlin who 'works three jobs' and is never not 'working so hard and under so much pressure' sends a late night email to the Council asking to have an event in a few weeks.

"Devlin then approaches Morrison and tells her that she wants her to work on Pride on the Big Screen (PBS) with her colleague Mary Lindsay. Neither Morrison or Lindsay are keen."

Devlin appears to pull an 'event' out of thin air and then after doing the total sum of nothing from February 2023 to end June 2023 - suddenly chases Sara twice on the same day for their list of most triggering contacts.

3 July 2023 Devlin sends an email to the BFF’s LGBT contacts, putting every organisation in the cc rather than bcc list, with Morrison’s name at the very top.

4 July 2023 The LGBT groups see Sara’s name and an alleged letter writing campaign starts with an online pile on.

An external PR company is brought in to craft a statement. Devlin doesn’t like it. Instead she sends out the following: “We have been made aware of the incident and are investigating. We want to reassure you that Belfast Film Festival passionately supports your values. We will celebrate and defend them.”

5 July 2023 Devlin calls in an external HR firm to do the job, then cancels BFF’s BIGLY SCREEN two day long involvement in Belfast Pride.

25 July 2023 Morrison is informed she is the subject of an investigation.

29 July 2023 Devlin attends Belfast Pride wearing a t-shirt which says, in large block capitals: “TRANS INCLUSIVE FEMINIST”. Morrison goes off sick and starts a grievance process against Mark Cousins.

Jan 2024 Morrison starts a discrimination case (and crowdfunder) against her employer.

5 June 2024 JK Rowling donates to Morrison’s crowdfunder.

26 November 2024 Morrison resigns from the BFF and adds a claim of constructive dismissal.

In Nicks words - this is vigorously disputed by BFF.

Except there is a while lot of evidence in the 1000 page bundle supporting most points.

And two years and 7 months after Sara spoke up for women's rights she's still waiting for justice.

Lets see how tomorrow unfolds.

Morrison v Belfast Film Festival: Week 1

The amount of bullshit generated from se
NTBSTBDS (need to be seen to be doing something) government environmental/energy/waste programmes could power the Earth. This doesn’t just happen in NI. It’s worldwide. Billions given to people who produce nothing. The money disappears and then the next big fake thing comes along and so it continues.

I wish I was on the ball enough to set up a shell company and rake in grants for producing non-existent environmental solutions to real problems. I could have my company, plus be in the government boards that hands out grants to me. Would make a killing. I wouldn’t be able to sleep well though.

Namechanged999999 · 16/11/2025 22:30

Ok. As an honest catholic ni person. Here’s what actually happened. There was a mad scam involving unionists and their friends. They could heat their barns using these pellets and be given lots of money for doing so. It was not given to the wider ni public just the unionists and it was sold as an ecological benefit but it wasn’t . TBH how do i as a catholic know whether these people heated their barns or not. I have no way of knowing. But they all benefited from this scam for years with lots of unionist support. Did arlene know? How would i know but it brought down the NI government. There’s so much shit here. Now this tribunal with a ‘Prof’ who apparent might have been part of all that? @

My memory of this is that the pellet burners were fed wood pellets which were sourced, in the main, in Fermanagh.

I remember 'Cash for ash' vaguely, IIRC Private Eye covered it in some detail, can't say I paid that much attention, but that was years ago, wasn't it? Isn't it all done and dusted by now?
